Kayleigh, in benefits section is absolutely fantastic, she is empathic, knowledgeable and couldnt do enough to help, super VHI employee, a pleasure to deal with, answered all my questions, nothing was too much, answered the phone straight away, glad I got her on the other end of my call.

Not so much a health insurance company, more like a criminal enterprise that has found a way to legally scam people. Their staff are obnoxious too. Avoid at all costs, nasty, fraudulent entity.

We had to make a claim with our vhi multitrip, as my mam became very unwell and we were all unable to travel, a very easy process a doctors letter needed, proof of flights and payments, from sending in the claim it only took 3 days, after a horrific few weeks with my mam been so unwell vhi just took over and took that stress from us, would highly recommend vhi and also vhi multitrip.

I think Vhi in General are good but I’m here to praise a customer service rep that went above and beyond to help me sort out a claim. He rang me back when he said he would and has followed that up with a call a week later to make sure it was all going smoothly. So Thank-you David I appreciate all the help and to your boss/bosses he is certainly someone you need to hang on too.

i have been with VHI for most of my life and had little or no claims. i had a plan which allowed me 60% of costs in a private hospital. this worked well up until about two years ago . then when renewal came up, and in view of rising costs, i contacted them. i was provided with a different plan which was said to be similar to the one i had, but with higher excesses. i was happy enough with this. then this year, my wife had reason to attend the mater private. initially on her first visit for a day, i was billed a large daily amount. on querying why this was, i was not provide with any info....not even that i no longer had any private cover ! she had to attend the hospital which was unable to find a solution to her problem, and was held in there for a number of nights, leading to a bill of nearly 20,000€ ! i duly submitted the claim to VHI who then claimed that i was not covered for any portion of the stay. they did not even pay for an MRI, which was stated to be covered ! absolutely horrendous!
apart from the fact that we are now in our eighties, it makes little sense in having cover when they are not providing benefits. the simple fact is that they did NOT advise me of any change of cover, and even their print out does not state it. we cannot afford to get sick any more

Superb service. Nurses were outstanding especially the triage nurse who saw me first. Excellent care all round. In andnout treatment xray 3 nurses 2 doctors all in 2 hours...thank you

Have been with VHI for years & I honestly don't think I'd switch. If the service was intermittent, I would think otherwise but it's consistently good. The Nurseline is so useful & staff are very helpful on the phone too regarding claims. The only downside is it's getting a bit expensive.

Such a dishonest company I pay by VHI bill by a one off payment each year. This year in error I overpaid by a large amount, I am unable to speck to someone or get an response as to when the money will be refunded. If I delayed payment I would loose my cover straight away. | am so disappointed with the treatment I have received by VHI, so frustrating.

I've been trying to get prior approval for a covered elective procedure abroad, and the process VHI requires is, in practice, impossible to complete. They insist an Irish-based consultant examine you and complete the form and referral letter — but no consultant will do this unless they're the one performing the surgery, since it isn't a real consultation. I contacted six different hospitals and clinics in Ireland and was refused by every single one, for exactly this reason. Apparently VHI designed a requirement that literally no medical professional in the country is willing to fulfil.

When I raised this directly with VHI and asked what alternative options existed, the response was essentially "this is the process for all our members," with zero flexibility and zero acknowledgment that the process doesn't actually work. No one seemed the slightest bit interested in helping me use a benefit I am, in fact, paying for.

So despite having cover for treatment abroad as part of my policy, I've been left chasing a requirement that exists on paper but not in reality. It's hard not to conclude this "process" isn't there to help members access care — it's there so VHI can point to a policy and never actually have to pay out. If you're considering VHI for cover you might actually need to use, take this as a warning.

Visited the women’s health clinic. The initial ‘triage’ phone call was terrible and in spite of my better judgment I went to the appointment 6 weeks later (to be charged a 75 euro fee I had not been made aware of upfront). The appointment was ok, very general. Follow up appointment had been scheduled incorrectly and doctor was running behind schedule so arrived to carrickmines to be told the appointment was not going ahead due to insufficient time booked. A terrible attitude and taking stress of a badly and incorrectly scheduled day out on the patient without any consideration of the organisation it takes on the patient side to go to carrickmines. This experience, in addition to minimal return on my health expenses this year, means despite my long history with VHI, I will definitely be changing for next years cover.

Attended the swiftcare clinic approximately 2 and a half hours there. It was over all a good experience, helpful interested doctors, unlike my experience with DrOnline. The vhi clinic is much the same price 50 to 75 euro but for me included MRI, x-rays and a follow up

Treated really inappropriately by 2 receptionists at VHI swords when I had a query. I was dealing with one receptionist and the 2nd one interfered into our conversation while serving another customer. Resulting in them both making me feel really uncomfortable with my small child with me whom was ill.

Switched to vhi, before the renewal date we had a baby, they informed us it would be a full years cost to add them despite a couple of days in the difference.

I complained and was then led on a merry go round of a solution that went nowhere. Was still inside cooling off period so cancelled.

The insane price rises and monopoly in the Irish market are unsustainable and the arrogance and lack of interest I got from the people I dealt with was just so disheartening. I would say avoid but how can you when there’s no other options?

I recently had a claim under my VHI Travel policy.
The claim was dealt with over the phone in a most professional and understanding way I could not have been more happy with the process was so easy. The staff member went though the various expenses which we had incurred there was no fuss and our claim was paid in full flights Taxi and Bus fairs without any deductions other than the policy excess. Super service. We received payment to our account 3 days later .

I have never been exposed to such bad service from a medical professional as part of the Online Doctor offering. Didn’t care, didn’t listen and did nothing but tell me to go to the doctor. I made the appointment based on the services they could do but obviously they can’t. I was looking for efficiency of time but wasted the 3 minutes plus I have to go to my GP tomorrow now.

Great at taking payments. Awful when it comes to claiming back.

Terrible they increase the basic plan amount overnight from 32 to 45 ,45 % increase for zero to null cover

Absolutely wonderful service. Attended on 21st December 2025. I understand that there can be long wait times but I think people should remember that times would be so much longer in a public A & E. I was in and out in just 1 hour. Xrayed and diagnosed with a foot fracture. Crutches and a boot and total cost for me was €50 as I am a VHI member. Honestly I hope I will always be able to avail of this wonderful service. Staff were unbelievable and so kind.
