We couldn’t be happier with the loft conversion. From start to finish, the ALC team were professional, reliable, friendly, and extremely helpful. The quality of the workmanship is excellent, and they paid great attention to detail throughout the project.

Communication was fantastic, everything was explained clearly, and the work was completed to a very high standard. The team were respectful of our home, kept everything as tidy as possible, and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with the result.

The finished loft has completely transformed our home and given us the extra space we needed. We’re absolutely delighted with it and would highly recommend this company to anyone considering a loft conversion.

Paid a deposit in July 2025, we were told that the job would start in about 3 months and would take 'around 6 weeks' to complete. Gateshead Lofts Ltd, acting as a sub-contractor of Access Loft Conversions, kept delaying the start date. Getting them to reply to emails was difficult to near impossible from the off. They eventually started in November 2025. In the second week of the job they knocked down a chimney with a live connection, and then blamed me (not a builder not a structural engineer) for not doing adequate checks. This required us to contract an external company to rebuild as Access would not deal with the problem they had caused. This process also revealed that they had not submitted building regulations applications, despite saying in that they had, and using this as the reason for the 4 month delay in starting after signing the contract and paying the deposit. They then vanished and did not respond for three weeks. When they did reply they said they would be back on January 6th. They turned up on January 12th. Throughout the whole process they would sometimes only do half a day a week. The job was eventually finished – after many, many issues, including them installing the wrong staircase and having to remedy and two separate lots of building regulations contraventions – on 28 May, six and a half months after starting, for a 'six week' job. The stress that this caused to my family was immeasurable. At one point my husband was so sick with anxiety he couldn't eat or leave the house. I would not touch this company with a barge pole. As they use subcontractors and are a franchise you have no idea who you are actually getting in to do the work. Their communication is extremely poor – they were ignoring my calls following the chimney incident, which was proven after I rang, was ignored, and then called from a different number minutes later and the call was picked up. They aggressively chase invoices, which they demand be paid within 3 (non-working) days of receipt, but refuse to answer basic questions and serious questions alike.

Ryan and his team have been excellent from the outset. The works started to our loft while we were on holiday and they sent constant video messages updating us on the work. All the workmen were professional, clean and tidy and did an excellent job! We are so pleased with our dormer and other works completed at our house. We highly recommend Access Loft Conversions.

Access Lofts went above and beyond and provided a wonderful conversion. The guys in the design team are very detailed, the contractors couldn’t be more helpful and the process has been well managed by our principal contractor. Our new master bedroom looks fabulous we are so impressed.

Fantastic service from start to finish. The installers were fast, electricians, plumbers and plasterers done a great job and were clean, tidy and respectful to the house. Our foreman kept us up to date with when each trade was due on and the final job looks great. Thanks guys

We’re very happy with our stunning new master bedroom and en-suite. The builder and foreman Rob has been great throughout and the result is fantastic. I’ve been impressed with the plumber, electrician as well. The whole house has been transformed. Rob has been very positive and approachable throughout and we’d thoroughly recommend him.

Access lofts recently completed a large conversion for us and I couldnt be happier with the project. The project was quite complex with planning restriction and difficulties with the structure but there design team were more than capable of overcoming them. The builders were polite, courteous and the dedication to the project was second to none. Thanks for a wonderful job!!

The new space has blown us away, the staircase looks and feels fantastic within the space and the view from our new Juliet Balcony just WOW!

Avoid at all cost. When I feel able to relive the nightmare of an experience we had getting our loft with Access Lofts, I will leave a more detailed review of our experience. But for now even months after the nightmare we are still paying others to fix repairs needed, huge leaks and faults etc so I needed to warn others asap to avoid at all cost.

Access Loft Conversions built an extension to our neighbour's house. As this is a terraced house and there is a shared separating wall which they needed to build upon, we gave consent for these works to go ahead. We did NOT give consent for ALC builders to walk straight onto our roof. A few weeks into the works, we had a major leak in our house. We complained to our neighbours, ALC builders came to the house, went onto the roof, painted over the stained ceiling and said it was all sorted. Yet the leak reappeared a few months later. At this stage the extension has been completed and paid for, and ALC simply ignored multiple emails and signed-for letters from us and our neighbours. As I could not wait for our house to be further damaged by the leak, I decided to sort it out myself. I realised they had broken a number of tiles while walking without the necessary precautions on our roof, including two which where split in half. Instead of replacing them, which any decent person would have done, they simply glued one of them with some sealant, which of course only temporarily stopped the leak, and left the other one as it was. What kind of person would behave like this ? They would not have got the job had we refused to consent to it (or at least it would have been more difficult to complete), yet they showed no consideration in return. ALC are not professional at all, they should be avoided.

I've recently bought a new bungalow and wanted to convert the loft. Access offered excellent service and a comprehensive quote. I love the way it looks and how spacious it is, which makes my small bungalow look much bigger now. The loft has a bedroom, a bathroomand living room with sofa-beds. If you're thinking of converting your loft conversion then I highly recommend them!

Access loft conversions have provided us with a wonderful loft conversion that really compliments our home. Their design team have been great throughout even though we hit a few challenges along the way. Dave who initially came to see us was very thorough and helpful and Mandy and Zoe in the admin team have been really helpful and informative. I can’t thank them enough and we are loving our new space.

I am the neighbour of someone having a loft conversion. The company and its contractors assumed access rights to my land (specifically not given). Their scaffolding contractors started work at 07:15 and were abusive when challenged. They raised scaffolding works over my land without permission. They positioned their scaffolding to look directly into a bedroom (of a 19 y/o girl). Debris falling from the scaffolding is landing on my kitchen roof leaving me concerned about the health and safety for my family given the debris is landing on velux windows. Their project manager has failed to contact me to try to resolve any of these issues (which should have been resolvable).

Unfortunately we didn’t read the earlier post on this site for Access Loft Conversions before going ahead with our conversion.
We were impressed with the plans and price and initial contact though there was a delay of 3 months after paying initial fees and completion of planning permission to starting work.
The project manager was the father of the director, superficially a pleasant-enough chap, but as we soon came to realise, was willing to say anything to appease us when concerned about delays or questions about the build progress.
The builders were 2 pleasant guys, very polite, but slow at their work. Our 6 week project took over 6 months due to errors on ALC’ part:
The loft floor was built 100mm higher than plan and the roof height around 100mm too low, resulting in much of the room and en-suite being unusable to persons over 4 feet high.
The en-suite layout had to be replanned due to the height differences and I now have to stand with my head in the Velux to use the toilet, the toilet door had to be cut at an angle to accommodate the low ceiling height, and we had to lose the only planned wardrobe space in the bedroom, also due to the low ceiling.
The project manager’s response - to shrug his shoulders and comment on tolerances to the plan!
We then had the wrong feature windows installed (cheaper, though we’d been charged for the higher spec). ALC response; we’ll fit the right ones if you pay extra. Luckily I’d kept earlier communications from the original company contact who’d subsequently ‘left the company’ (though oddly had the same surname as the director and project manager!), so once I shared those they were changed eventually. Plastering quality throughout is awful and despite having some work redone we couldn’t face them coming back to repair some of the really poor quality plastering. The project manager didn’t manage any of the project, was usually ‘down in the South managing the builds there’ and it was entirely down to us questioning and asking for progress that things were sort of addressed. There was no quality control or snagging - if I didn’t comment on a fault it wasn’t addressed.
The final straw was when the external building inspector refused the sign off the build due to the stairwell being too low! The usual excuses of ‘not our fault, the regs must have changed, we can’t be expected to keep up to date’ was again rubbish, we had to have an extra Velux inserted (with planning permission) and reluctantly had to pay towards the window other we’d have had to have an old one they had in stock which looked totally incongruous.
As a previous reviewer commented, ALC was always early with requests for stage payments and ‘forgot’ to take off the initial deposit from the payment schedule.
That, and the glossy brochure are the only highlights but please don’t be fooled and do not use this company. There’s clearly no pride in the workmanship and notably ALC offers no opportunity to comment on their work on their social media or website.
