Title: 15 Months of Delays, Vague Denials, and No Accountability

I had a deeply disappointing experience with Ameris Bank during a 15+ month attempt to refinance my primary residence. Despite full cooperation, repeated document submissions, and even receiving an initial approval, Ameris ultimately denied my request without any transparency or clear reasoning.

They cited vague terms like “global debt coverage” (which applies to business loans, not personal mortgages) and used SBA-related logic to justify denying a personal home refinance. When I requested clarification and underwriting documentation, EVP James LaHaise responded that they would “not be providing any additional information.” No explanation, no transparency, no accountability.

I’ve filed a formal complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and California regulators, and I’ve notified HOTWORX Corporate (as I was the one who originally introduced Ameris through a franchise partnership). Their refusal to act professionally has not only delayed my ability to refinance but also damaged trust across multiple stakeholders.

If you’re considering Ameris Bank for personal or franchise lending — proceed with caution. They do not operate with the level of professionalism or consumer care expected from a regulated financial institution.

As of today I have not received replacement debit card, almost a month after incident. I noted other customers remarks regarding inability to use cards in Europe, despite notifying Ameris prior to trip. In the process of switching to another bank. Should have done sooner.

I contacted the bank yesterday to make sure they do not decline my card during travel. I went to purchase items today and my card was declined. I will be closing my bank account ASAP upon arrival home. This is the 2nd trip Ameris Bank has ruined my trip. I’ve been with Ameris bank for over 10 years. I am fed up. I will go to Bank of America where they have customer service 24/7.

If I could give zero stars I would. I have a client looking to purchase a home. The client is a more than well qualified buyer. Needless to say the loan officer hasn't been proactive until a foot was stuck in his ass. The underwriter is slow and keeps asking for things he already has. I will never ever refer a client to ameris bank.

Absolutely terrible. In 2025, why is my pay check held for over 7 days. There aren't many folks out there that could live without their paycheck for over a week. I'm lucky because I budget out but this is absurd. I was banking with MoneyLion and they deposited my paycheck instantly, through mobile banking. Yet a big bank has held my money hostage for 7 days. Once I get my new account open with my local credit union, I'll never use you again. I have you idiots a chance but all I get is excuses. Excuses don't pay bills. If I had an emergency right now, I'm screwed. I'm 40 years old and never in my life had a paycheck held for 7 days. Ive deposited 5k in a personal check into an ATM in 2001 and it was in my account at the end of the day. Yet in 2025 you can't process my UKG backed paycheck? Yea, that's retarded.

My money is still not in my account. 11 days waiting on my pay check. This is ridiculous.

NEVER EVER EVER USE AMERIS BANK IF YOU HAVE A BUSINESS ACCOUNT: On December 4, 2024, my business account was impacted by one unauthorized transaction, along with several others that were declined. The bank contacted me to confirm whether I had authorized these transactions, which I had not. They immediately deactivated my debit card and instructed me to contact the bank directly.

When I did, I was informed that they had until January 4, 2025, to complete their investigation and determine if Walmart would return the funds. This raised immediate concerns for me, as I know my debit card is protected under Visa's Zero Liability Policy. According to this policy, cardholders are not held responsible for unauthorized charges made with their account or account information, except in specific cases such as certain commercial cards, anonymous prepaid cards, or transactions not processed by Visa. Why in the world would Walmart be the one to decide whether my funds are returned, especially when this was a Visa card, and Visa guarantees my protection against unauthorized charges?

As of today, January 23, 2025, my funds have still not been returned. I have repeatedly expressed to the bank that this delay is unacceptable. Most recently, they informed me that they now have until March 4, 2025, to resolve the issue and return my funds.

My car loan was put with them through a bank merge. I have a 72 month loan. I've made 66 payments on time. I had a hardship and called them to see if I could skip a payment. I was told no, then I was threatened eveyday even though I told them when I was able to make the payment multiple times. They even went so far to start calling random people they thought might know me regarding my past due account. I found out through the actual people I knew as they people they contacted were relatives of people I know, not actual people I know. I have 6 more payments with them and I would never use them again. RUN...my GM Financial loan was willing to work with me along with most other banks. I couldn't believe that I called you and communicated with you several times to be treated so bad and unwilling to help. Asking for skipped payment over 6 years was not something they were willing to do.

I bank online and at the bank in the town I live in. Ameris Bank is always quick to respond to any questions or concerns I may have about my accounts. I never have to wait for long periods of time to speak to a live representative on the phone, which is a big plus for me. Ameris Bank is much more personalble. They know who I am when I pull through the drive thru window. I receive great customer service from Ameris.

LaDonna Rodriguez at the Palmetto Branch in Palmetto Florida (941-981-6026) was beyond helpful. She canceled my old debit card and issued me a new one and got me approved for a new credit card all within 20 minutes !
Everyone at this bank is always super nice and helpful. I’ve banked here for 15 years and have always been happy with the service ! I highly recommend this bank !

Every time I visit the Buckhead location it makes me glad that I have an account with this bank. The customer service is literally stellar! Even the atmosphere feels light and welcoming. Neda, Terri, and Chris have all assisted me at different times and the consistency in professionalism is so awesome! Bravo TEAM!

On March 19, 2023 $494.80 and 492.68 was debted from my account at a Pilot gas stationin Lincoln, Al for diesel. I explained to them that i was no where near that area nor do I live near that area. At that time the bank reversed the charges. On June 26,2023 the bank put the charges back on my account stating that I was the one that made the transactions. I would like to explain that I am a local truck driver and I do not travel that far out. If the bank would look at my transactions they would see that I have never been in that area. Then today after speaking with customer service I have realized that your money is not protected at this bank. Evidently they don't have insurance on your money.

I have banked with Ameris in Atlanta for several years. I have a checking account that pays me a small amount of interest with no cost to me. There is never a wait to use a teller and their ATMs have been reliable. I have never had a problem that they didn't take of immediately.

I have been a customer with Ameris Bank (personal) for several years. My debit card was stolen outside a restaurant (I know, debit cards don't have any security, but I couldn't get a credit card at the time). I called the bank the next day when I noticed it missing. The representative assured me that I would be refunded, and I needed to follow up in 7-10 days to confirm. I call back the bank 10 days later, and they said there was NO RECORD of my first phone call. Since I was reporting the loss after the 7 day grace period, I would not be refunded. I escalated my issue several times. The manager could see that I had called Ameris Bank at the correct time, because some transactions were refunded and others were not. BUT she was unable to refund about $180 in stolen transactions. I was punished due to a mixup on their end. I'm closing my Ameris Bank account today.

Went in bank to reorder business checks asked about any new credit card promotions, teller knew of some asked if Hard or soft pull told it wasnt Hard pull. Applied. Got a credit monitoring alert an hour later... It was a Hard inquiry called teller who did new card with informed him of the Hard inquiry and that i asked beforehand b/c i know they bring score down, he denied remembering me asking that question and his response😤

I recently sold my house and the buyer's lender was Ameris Bank. The closing was called off by the underwriter not even a day before due to documentation issues with the buyer. My question to Ameris Bank is why set up a closing if you're client does not have all the sufficient documentation in place.

Mixed bag, They are very into account Security, that is a big plus. The negative, at some point though, it becomes such a hassle just to login. A 2 step login is good but give a reliable option to remember the device loging from so you don't always need an OPT code. Over the last 2 years, customer service is becoming less friendly. My Investment firm (Fidelity) which use to allow me to view my bank balances as part of my financial totals has come out and said they can no longer provide this option. The bank has stopped working with them, while none of my of my other financial companies or credit card companies have an issue. Trying to reorder checks is a royal pain. Bank website provides a link to check website, the information is not editable so they tell you to call bank customer service. Long wait times on the phone just to talk to a person.
