I ordered a Savage Gear SG4 Medium Game rod which unfortunately arrived damaged. One of the line guides was bent and the resin had completely come away from the rod. I reported this immediately and provided clear photographic evidence to the retailer.

Rather than insisting on a return and replacement, I suggested a more practical solution that would save time and effort for both sides. I proposed a partial refund to cover the cost of repairing the damaged guide, which would allow me to put the rod right myself without unnecessary delays. I also asked whether a small goodwill gesture, such as a pike streamer lure worth around £5, could be included to help restore confidence in the purchase.

I was offered a £20 partial refund, which I accepted. While this resolved the financial side of the issue, the way it was handled was disappointing. The response was very brief, offered no real apology or explanation for why the rod arrived in this condition, and did not acknowledge the goodwill request at all.

When I followed up to ask about the pike streamer, I received the following response:

"We have issued the £20 partial refund for the issue with this rod and for the inconvenience and we feel this is sufficient."

That wording says everything. The focus was entirely on what they feel is sufficient, rather than how the customer feels after receiving damaged goods. There was no attempt to understand the experience from my perspective or to show appreciation for being flexible and reasonable throughout the process.

I believe I was an easy customer in this situation. Accepting a partial refund avoided the costs and logistics of return postage and a replacement, meaning the business lost no more than necessary. Despite this, the interaction left me feeling processed rather than valued.

The issue here is not the value of a small lure. It is the complete lack of customer care and engagement. In a market with so many competing angling retailers, I would expect a business to make at least a minimal effort to leave the customer feeling satisfied and appreciated. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this company to anyone who values good customer service.

Ordered a pack of 3 OROS Indicators ,at £15.89 not cheap ,they arrived with indents and marks on both sides ,in my opinion they were damaged
Contacted them and they told me they were normal due to packaging, i wasn't happy and wanted to return them for a refund, they informed me they would not reimburse me the postage costs.including the return postage .
If goods arrived damaged seller is responsible for postage costs ,they then said they changed it to buyer doesn't want them ,which was totally wrong as I would have kept them if they were not damaged .I actually recieved another pack from a different company with no dents or marks on them ,So if I had returned them I would be £7.98 out of pocket on postage costs ,RIP OFF no doubt they will come on and try to defend their decision ,but I have pictures plus all e-mails to prove this
Shocking company ,avoid at all costs I wouldn't have given them any stars.

Today i was contacted by a manager from Angling Active ,who said she had reviewed this and has now reimbursed me the full amount I was charged initially for the damaged items, thank you to Her for sorting this out for me ,faith restored 👍

This company sells defective / broken tripods under the brand name ICON.

AVOID this company at all costs.

They've sent out a broken tripod which has ruined a fishing holiday I had planned and has caused me to suffer financial lost.

They expect you as the customer to supply packaging for a 10 foot or so tripod.

AVOID!
