Totally inadequate customer service and ability to deliver when promised and as specified
We ordered Windows & doors at the start of June 2023. We were furnished with a written quote on company paper. We were informed the work could be completed by the end of August. We went ahead on the basis. of the quote and the completion (which we actually expected to be September 2023).
AstraSeal then:
- Repeatedly pushed back the start date for the work from late August until early October 2023, with no guarantee it would not have been pushed back even further had I not insisted it had to be completed by the start of October.
- Delivered a front door with incorrect door furnishings, locking mechanism and glazing. All of this was not fully corrected until March 2024 - and even then, it required the complete replacement of the front door due to a "manufacturing error" in order to have the glazing style we had originally ordered.
- Even now, we have no formal guarantee from AstraSeal that if the glazing in the door is accidentally broken (and for which we would obviously be liable for the cost of replacement), we would not potentially be charged for the complete replacement of the door on account the 2 glazing panels cannot be removed and replaced on their own.
- Failed to supply the back door at any point during the initial installation period (4 days) because (according to the fitters) "it had not arrived from the factory". Back door was not installed until one of several subsequent visits in October / November 2023 as the company attempted to complete the work and rectify problems.
- Incorrectly measured the kitchen window, such that the gap around it (25-35mm on a side) was well outside of the FENSA recommended 10mm, then attempted to cover it up through the use of expanding foam prior to adding the beading in the hope I would not notice.
- The above required a grudging re-visit by their surveyor who eventually agreed the window would have to be re-manufactured.
- Despite the salesman assuring us restrictors would be fitted to all upstairs windows (a specific request by my wife), these have only been fitted to the bathroom window openings.
- In December 2023, with work still outstanding, the company informed me that the overall cost for the work was some £630 above the original quote. When challenged on this, the company responded that they don't regard written quotes on company headed paper as "official", and that as the salesman in question was "no longer with the company", I was therefore required to pay what was recorded on their internal order form, not what was in the original quote.
- Refused to return telephone calls, dealing only via e-mail (bar one occasion, and even then nothing was resolved re: the front door, but rather resulted in a further delivery of the wrong glazing).
We are still in dispute with the company over the cost of the work, the manner in which it was carried out, the delays in completing it as a result of their own failures, and their overall attitude. But whatever the outcome of this, I would recommend that based on our experience, anyone considering replacement doors / windows not to engage this organisation either under their Astra-Seal or Win-Dor brands. They are simply not worth the stress.
