No longer backs up cloud files
Backblaze has changed their backup client so that it does not back up cloud files (whether or not there's a local copy on your computer). They have not properly communicated this change either, which is pretty dishonest. I suspect more than a few people will be caught out by this. I strongly recommend looking at other backup options.
Bad backup service and customer support.
Backblaze now no longer backs up iCloud drive or Dropbox without letting us know. If i had known I would have arranged alternative backups.
On top of that their restore process is awful - errors and timeouts and difficult accessing lost files.
The support is robotic, blunt and confusing and I've had to repeat myself many times over with no acknowledgment of the issues im facing and how backblaze could be improved. Im switching asap.
Cannot cancel subscription.
Cannot cancel subscription.
Anti-patterns/no button says cancel.
Never fails to fail at backing up
Never fails to fail at backing up - every time I do a test check to see if it is backing up a test file - that file is nowhere to be found on their server. What am I supposed to do....do a Option key/Restore Options button in Backblaze panel to force a backup every time i want to backup my computer - and even then it misses backing up a test file on my desktop! I can't believe I haven't cancelled this subscription long ago! Pure junk.
No iCloud backup, very hard to cancel
Backblaze doesn't allow you to backup iCloud files, unless you make a copy on your HD. I tried to cancel. Their cancellation process is horrendous and possibly illegal (the FTC now requires click-to-cancel, and forbids automatic renewal without consent). With BackBlaze, if you cancel before your paid subscription ends, you just lose your remaining time. To cancel, you have to delete all your data on their site, and then "delete your computer". (You should also wait until your subscription is about to expire, so as not to lose the time you've paid for).
For safety, I would advise blocking them from your credit card, if possible.
Happy customer since 2012
I've been using Backblaze since 2012 and I'm incredibly happy with their service. Their cloud backups have saved my "life" multiple times, so I highly recommend them!
These guys are listed on the stock exchange
My problems with Backblaze have been ongoing FOR YEARS.
Backblaze has been inaccessible to me for hundreds of hours AND HAS COST ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS... AND THE LOSS OF HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF Megabytes data.
However, Backblaze NEVER FAILS TO ASSESS ME $9 A MONTH FOR MY "SECOND” ACCOUNT THAT IS SETUP WHENEVER BACKBLAZE CRASHES AND CANNOT UPDATE MY NEW DATA.
Backblaze has charged me for at least 20 months, that of course comes to under $200, PLUS MY ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION.
I have lost hundreds of thousands of Megabytes of data.
The current computer I am using had a CLEAN INSTALL on Sunday, September 14 from an installed Windows 11 to an install of Windows 10 PRO.
I received the new computer on September 9, 2025. (see attached)
A BRAND NEW OPERATING SYSTEM, YET, I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM WITH BACKBLAZE I HAVE HAD FOR THREE YEARS, GET IT?
Backblaze has been the ONLY CONSTANT FOR THREE YEARS.
YET, EVERYONE BELIEVES I, or my computer, AM AT FAULT.
Obviously, again, right now, if I CANNOT INSTALL BACKBLAZE,
ALL OF MY BACKUPS WILL BE LOST.
In fact, because of inactivity (my BACKUPS) I HAVE LOST OVER 135,000 MB just between July and August
MY DATA IS BEING LOST BECAUSE OF BACKBLAZE INABILITY TO:
1. Maintain my account and save my Backups
2. Correct the problem at Backblaze's end
3. 'Deny' me the ability to install Backblaze
PS: Backblaze HAS NEVER FAILED
to charge me AN EXTRA $9 a MONTH
TO 'MAINTAIN' MY "SECOND ACCOUNT."
Can't change autopay without data loss.
Would not cancel my subscription!
Despite 2 emails from me cancelling my subscription this company took the cost of renewal from my credit card.
This is totally unacceptable and probably illegal!
I am now trying to get a refund of the stolen money.
I would put no stars
I would put no stars. I am a photographer and have trusted in backblaze for years. All fine until the moment I actually have to use it. Awful customer service, impossible systems to retrieve ( or not as the case maybe ) your data.
Lack of communication and useful and timely responses. I would buy some extra SSD and just use them !
Backblaze customer support is non…
Backblaze customer support is non existent.
No phone
nobody available on chat (Thr afternoon, wtf)
instructions I was given did not work and I was left without any further help.
Backblaze is garbage, looking for other options.
DO NOT EVER START USING THIS PLATFORM IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR DATA OR YOUR TIME.
Predatory transaction charges with…
Predatory transaction charges with misleading storage costs for B2. Storing around 50G of data ended up costing $1200 for a month because there was a bug in the backup software querying in a loop, causing millions of read transactions. Their support refused to issue me a refund. Thankfully my bank granted a dispute in my favor.
Extricating oneself from Backblaze is…
Extricating oneself from Backblaze is excruciating. They apparently haven't heard or don't care about the FTC 'Click to cancel' ruling. The rigmarole is unbelievably complex.
From the start, Backblaze failed me. They did not back up my files, they could not provide access to a file (unsurprising, since they apparently hadn't backed up my PC). Worse, their 'help' system would not accept my verified email/password combination, though I could sign in via their website. Bizarre.
This is a dysfunctional endeavor.
European providers - Stay away from Backblaze!
To all European providers:
Stay as far away from Backblaze as you can. American support ethics practically prohibit Backblaze from treating you the way we in Europe expect from good support.
The only thing that matters to the Backblaze support guys is how to get rid of you as quickly as possible. It's no use that Backblaze is cheap.
We switched from OVH to Backblaze because Backblaze is only 1/3 the cost. We now regret this move. In addition to the storage costs, there are hidden transaction costs. But they're still manageable.
What's much worse and hasn't been published anywhere: Backblaze has implemented a rate limit for requests. If too many requests are made to your bucket, even if they're just head requests, your bucket will be locked. That's great when the entire software crashes because the bucket is locked. The system then only returns a 503!
In our case, an automatic backup runs every two weeks and backs up all files to another S3 server at a different location. This bucket runs incrementally and queries all files to see if they still exist (Simple HEAD-Requests). Since joining Backblaze, this script has stopped working. Twice our software crashed for hours after we started the script because our account was locked.
How we're supposed to migrate all our files from Backblaze is still a mystery to us. They seem to be blackmailing us in this way, so that we can't leave again.
You don't even need to contact support. They'll respond in short, concise sentences that they can't help you. The will to help? None.
Even before we became a Backblaze customer, we had a very bad experience with support. We had to repeat the same question eight times (no joke!) to get an answer. It was like something out of a TV show.
Anyway. Don't make the mistake of switching to Backblaze, you'll regret it!
Backblaze is Not a Good Solution, Anymore
I've been with Backblaze for many years, and up until recently was very satisfied with their work. Their storage solutions and customer support were both very good. During the past several months however, I have had ongoing problems with customer support addressing relatively minor account issues, to the point where the frustration of dealing with them is reason enough to close my account and go elsewhere. On numerous occasions, support requested copies of the identical documents over and over again, as though the support ticket was simply floating from desk to desk, or bot to bot, unread and ignored. For weeks I have been locked out of my account. Since going public a few years ago, I suspect cost-cutting has taken priority over quality. Too bad for what once was a fine company.
Dreadful Support Service
Had no problems for many years with them until 2 weeks ago. Since taking their advice to update my client, I have had multiple problems with my back up. Their response to multiple support requests is to either answer completely the wrong question or just close the ticket with no response and mark it as resolved. Absolutely appalling support service.
Aweful service
Awful service. None of my most important information was being backedup and then they make it impossible to stop your auto-renew.
The only way to prevent future billings is to fully cancel your account, including deleting all information and backups, even though you may have almost a full year left on your subscription that you already paid for!
There is zero customer service - they are impossible to communicate with and will not help you in any way.
They also can't even do a regular business invoice.
Overall a horrible service.
STAY AWAY
Seriously the worst. The whole time I was confident my images were backed up, they weren't. I'm a professional photographer, these images were clients' images, jobs I completed.
Backblaze did NOTHING to help, didn't care one bit. They kept sending me links on how to "keep it from happening again", blaming me the whole time for not checking to make sure THEIR job was done properly!
I just had to pay Drive Savers, a company of TRUE expert professionals, $4500 to restore the data Backblaze never backed up correctly in the first place. I told Backblaze (in an email because they will NOT talk to you on the phone) I wanted a refund of the money I have paid them for a job NOT done, they sent me $21. A joke. NOW the ENTIRE history of my communication with them is mysteriously gone, can't locate it anywhere.
They are a disgrace. Find another "service", this one is certainly NOT worth it.
Oh no
Oh no. I just came onto here to check as I thought Backblaze was good once upon a time, but recently I got a new mac and wanted to stop the old mac. So tried to restore all the old stuff, and delete that account. There is no way to do this because each time I try to download, it says it is too big for a zip file. How annoying! It wants you to pay £200+ for them to send you a USB!!! I have given it two stars because I have managed to restore the odd file in the past, but the customer service is non-existent. I am looking for a new solution. Such a shame!
Backblaze is the WORST
Add one more VERY BAD review for this company! I was charged for a year when I was not using the service. NOW they are telling me my account will renew and refuse to cancel my account unless I go to my back and find our last transaction. I am able to give them the credit card I used and any other way they want to verify. There is no way to talk to a person. I have wasted $ and now am having to go through so much stress to break up with them. Steer clear!!!
