Balboa Press Reviews 

After I submitted my manuscript & my final , the 1 item i requested to be fixed on the cover did not get done.
My 2nd request cost be despite the 1st one prepaid not being completed.
I also purchased marketing support: a website business cards reviews ads etc. I can not suggest anyone do this based on my experience.
1st hand communication is horrendous. I've been waiting weeks to connect with my coordinator. Do not expect timely responses.
As a marketing professional I know the trends to run ads - yet no one will comply with my requests. They don't communicate so it is difficult to know when they are doing the ads & to what target audience or location.
Reviews do not come with the release of the book. They come months later despite the materials delivered 6 months prior to book release.
Royalties I am now being told are taxed at an individual rate despite the fact that I am a corporation. It's a tax nightmare.
Balboa can learn transparency to discuss these concerns at the onset of signing up writers. In fact I spoke with my contact in depth about writing & publishing thru my corporation / brand yet it never happened.
There are better platforms available to publish & market. Wish it were different.

Ali, Jad and all of the Balboa team created a very successful interactive experience for myself and were very patient and helpful as they navigated me through my first publishing endeavour, The Facepoet.

This same quality of service now extends beyond the finished published product as I trust them and allow myself to receive the benefits of their own personal and professional experiences which the product would not exist without.

My only regret would be that I didn't acknowledge my publishing team in the actual final print copies released however I hope to express that gratitude in all future opportunities.

Swift, friendly responses, excellent guidance and the books are beautifully presented. Plus, freight-time is faster than expected.
I can't ask for better than that. :-)

They got the book published, but I found communication difficult. Often I wouldn't get a reply to my enquiries.

What service was included in the initial fee was ambiguous and it felt like I was constantly being approached to buy additional services.

I also believe that there was some dishonesty about complimentary copies, and I was misled into buying copies that I didn't need.

But in the end, the book is published and we'll see what comes of their marketing efforts.

In my book there are passages with see pic and there are no pictures to be seen despite editing

Overall, Balboa Press has been wonderful. There have been a couple of times during my book writing process where a team member has dropped the ball. With that said, once I follow up with them, things get back on track pretty quick.

The end product was better than I expected. The printing was done in a very fast time ad I was pleased with this. The finished product was very much to my liking. The people I dealt with were always helpful.
The only downside was the constant pressure to buy and spend more without receiving assurances that these additions would do anything to enhance my project. The staff were always ready to listen to me and make suggestions of alternatives

I noticed today the Balboa press has set up the W-8BEN form only for US authors. This from is set up to force foreign nationals to opt out by agreeing Balboa press to pay the 30% withholding rate. The address field is set up only for US authors and the bank account details are also set up only for US authors. If you are a non US author please stay away from Balboapress. They are a fraud and would need to be investigated.

The staff members were always polite, patient and professional.

I found every consultant to be helpful and informative

I was not always able to speak to a representative, but someone always got back to me via email in a timely manner. I trust this company with great editing. Also, their page design and book cover are excellent. I could not ask for any more with my book cover. With my input, the design team created a beautiful and almost error-free book.

I received my order in time for my book signing.

Good response time to emails and generally very supportive.

I found handover between different phases of the process was not well managed. I never knew when to stop contacting one person and go to the next.
I think having one point of contact throughout the process to ask and communicate with would be very helpful.
Also, when one phase ended, but I had no idea what was next so I may have messaged the person previously responsible the reply and response time was greatly increased or msgs went unanswered.
The process could use greater clarity.

When I published my first book with Balboa on Feb. 13th, 2022, everything went smoothly, and it was a pleasant experience. The second book was just published on March 31, 23, the experience was concerning for me because the proof was full of Publisher errors. The book was compressed from 400 pages down to 274 pages. The was no spacing between the paragraphs and there was no page separation between the subjects.
The book looks professional now and something to be proud of to sell. It seemed like I was dealing with new inexperienced people.

I will tell you what made my experience great-surrendering, patience and trusting (that all would go well) and to me, it went more than well. I say this because when I first looked into publishing a book (I hadn’t yet written), with Balboa Press, I looked at the reviews others had left behind and honestly, I was put off. But karma has a way to bring you where you need to be and somehow, due to my economic situation at that moment and the fact that Hay House publishing is associated with Balboa Press, I decided to give it a shot and allow balboa to publish my book once it would be ready. Mind you that, I was a bit skeptical about this decision but, decided to leave it all up to the Universe and trust. I am glad I did, and am very satisfied with the end result.

It’s a long story this was to be a relaunch
My first experience with the original book was also not great.
It took from August 8- til April to relaunch a book of 70 pages
Balboa apparently did not save the original high res full bleed images from the original book. The images were not to have changed so I ordered 100 books only to find when they arrived the images were incorrect

Because Balboa could not find them I had to go back in my archives and provide the images again

I feel like I was over sold and under delivered! I was passed from department to department I was told that Balboa loved my book- the truth? No one there ever read it! I was told I’d have a team and marketing etc and, all I got from marketing was a sales pitch and I paid for press release that never happened .
I had to cancel launch events because the book was wrong.

As of yesterday when I look on Amazon what shows there is not my updated book

I feel that I was treated in a condescending manner by more than one person my phone calls were not returned

It was a deeply disappointing experience

Unfortunately I discovered that I was alone in the process of publishing my book. None to help me, give me perspective on what to expect, how to handle different aspects. They don't communicate next steps or the whole picture. The pitching is full of promises, which won't be delivered in the process (the speech will change and the deals won't come through, and they'll offer all sorts of expensive upgrades to get a decent book). I would not recommend it to anyone. In the end, I did all the work.
