Neglectful and Willful Disregards for Patients With Chronic Pain
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario in their endeavor to end the morbid abuse of opioids in Ontario has insensitively neglected those who are truly in need. In July, CPSO wrote a new recommendation in regards to opioid dispensing. Doctors in Ontario are terrified of prescribing narcotics and are refusing to treat patients who are in need based on these guidelines. The CPO should be monitoring the physicians to be sure while addressing the concerns of abuse they do not allow their patient's care to diminish.
The public is losing faith in the doctors of Ontario to manage their health care in regards to chronic pain and rightfully so
The CPO has an obligation to the public to find ways to attack the narcotics abuse epidemic in Ontario BUT they also have an obligation to ensure patients are not suffering due to their guidelines. Yet, they are not.
