Develop Your Dog offers positive, practical gundog training for pet owners and working dog enthusiasts who want calm, engaged and responsive dogs. Based in Hampshire and Wiltshire, we specialise in helping owners build strong foundations using kind, modern training methods that focus on understanding, partnership and enjoyment. We work with puppies, adolescents and adult dogs, supporting owners through common challenges such as recall, lead work, focus, steadiness and self-control. Training is always broken down into clear, achievable steps so both dog and handler can succeed without pressure or overwhelm. Sessions are run at a pace to suit the individual dog and owner, with plenty of guidance, encouragement and time to ask questions. Whether in small group classes or one-to-one sessions, our aim is to create a supportive, friendly environment where learning feels manageable and progress feels real. At Develop Your Dog, we believe good training should be enjoyable, confidence-building and based on trust – helping dogs make good choices and owners understand how to guide them.

Jill has really good training exercises…

Jill has really good training exercises for dogs that encourage your dog to engage with you and enjoy the trining experience. Jill explains clearly to owners how to carry out each exercise and works at a pace suitable for both dog and owner!

A fantastic gundog trainer who has…

A fantastic gundog trainer who has worked wonders.

My flatcoatted retriever was a massive handful when we started gundog training with Jill. I wondered if he would ever be more than the nutty, goofy clown. Jill was kind, supportive and very clear on her instructions and training. My pup has quite literally transformed before our eyes!

Still goofy (and we love that) but being properly trained to do the job that he was bread for has improved his temperament and attitude no end.

All this after only six sessions and lots of practicing in between. I must say that I’m glad that the sessions are two weeks apart so that I had plenty of time to practice sufficiently with my pup and make real progress without feeling overwhelmed by more sessions looming large on the horizon. A perfect balance of clear instruction and time to put it into practice.

Your flatcoat has been an absolute joy to work with – still gloriously goofy, but now with some focus and purpose too. You have been so consistent and committed between sessions, and that really shows in the progress he’s made. It’s very much a team effort.

Expert Gundog Coaching from a Truly Skilled Trainer

I recently took my young dog Ronnie to Jill’s gundog classes and was really impressed.

From the very first session, Jill’s calm, confident approach put both of us at ease. She has a fantastic way of breaking down each skill so that it’s easy to understand and even easier for the dogs to follow.

Ronnie made noticeable progress every week—his recall, steadiness, and general focus really improved. Jill tailored her guidance to suit his personality, keeping him motivated while maintaining a high standard of control and consistency.

What really stood out was Jill’s ability to create a supportive, positive environment. She’s encouraging, incredibly knowledgeable, and always willing to go the extra mile to help each handler-and-dog team succeed.

I would highly recommend Jill’s gundog classes to anyone looking to build a solid foundation with their dog. Ronnie and I are already looking forward to the next course!
