Ford Dealer’s Disreputable and sharp practice at Evans Halshaw, Grantham

Arthur Daley is alive and well in Grantham in the guise of the Sales Leader with his “Rodders” sidekick.

This company’s business model drags Ford back to 1970’s spiv dodgy dealing and is an embarrassment to Fords reputation. Are Ford aware of their behaviour? If so, this reflects a despicable corporate failing in standards of motor industry retailing.

Let me set the scene. You find a nice Ford car you want on one of the search portals, Ford Evans Halshaw have what you want at a good price. You phone the sales team and let them know you are interested at the advertised price and give full details of your p/x vehicle. A deal is agreed and you arrange a test drive and say you are happy with car and price and they say they are happy with the price and the p/x price they have agreed. Deal done. So let’s just sit down and sort payment and collection of the car.
The salesman starts talking about a compulsory administration £95 fee not mentioned previously when arranging the test drive or agreeing the deal. Strange, you think, but whatever, I’ll live with it rather than make it a deal breaker you might think.
This is when the big scam begins. The salesman starts talking about optional extras including service contract, breakdown cover, damage cover, fabric stain protection the list goes on. You politely listen to all of this spiel before graciously declining these optional extras saying you are happy with the already agreed deal and would like to go ahead with completion on it.
Salesman asks you to wait while he speaks to his manager. Strange, you think, but whatever. Salesman returns with an improved options offer. You politely decline again explaining you are happy with the already agreed deal. This cycle then repeats...several times. Finally having very politely declined their kind optional extra offers. The salesman asks for the keys to your p/x car and he along with his sales manager and another salesman start crawling all over your car. That’s right, the car they have already agreed a deal on and are aware of its condition, service history etc.
Strange, you think, but whatever.
At this point the sales manager takes over and says they can’t go ahead with the already agreed deal unless you either accept less than the already agreed p/x value on your vehicle or buy one of their optional extras.
So the business (con) model is to agree a deal then if you decline their extras after an attempt to pressure/bully they renege on the deal...wow!

You express your disgust with their dishonest behaviour and walk away.

You then write a review much like this, or having read this you never go anywhere near Evans Halshaw and are left with a different view of Ford as a company and buy a different car from a reputable dealer and manufacturer. The choice is yours.

Popped into Evans Halshaw to have a look at a used mini and by the end of the afternoon, drove it away.
William gave us different finance options, was patient and happy to answer all our queries. It was a pleasure to meet and do business with him. Thanks William.

Reception staff very helpful but they where let down by their technicians who took no care of my vehicle at all whilst doing the work, muddy boot prints all over the carpets, driver seat and steering wheel left oily and dirty, quite clearly do not use seat covers and floor protection, very disappointed

Good service well looked after during wait

Very good service. The staff are always helpful and pleasant. Only adverse comment is how cold it was in the waiting area. At least you now have a coffee machine!!
