I purchased a product on FreeUp India app (w ww. freeup.app, operated by Selsom Technologies Pvt Ltd, CIN: U72900KA2021PTC154938, Bengaluru) on 08 May 2026. Paid Rs.363/- via credit card. Razorpay Payment ID: pay_Smk384XjTHrowi. Bank Transaction ID: 612810703673.
I received a completely fake product — nothing like what was advertised. I raised a complaint on 12 May 2026 with full evidence through their own "Need Help" channel.
Here is exactly what FreeUp did:

Their own platform promised "refund will be issued automatically if seller doesn't respond." Seller rejected it in 3 minutes. FreeUp broke its own promise.
They called my evidence "invalid" with zero explanation or review.
Demanded a secret return fee never disclosed at purchase — illegal under Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020.
Showed "Return In Progress — pickup by 15 May 2026" — pickup NEVER happened. Item still with me.
I personally emailed directors Harsh Shah () and Arfath Ahmed (ahmed_arfath@ yahoo.com) and co-founder Jimmy Yeoh (jimmyyw j@gma il.com). Over 1 month. Zero response.
FreeUp ITSELF permanently suspended the seller for "Misleading and Deceptive Practices — fake brand labels." Their own words. Confirming I was sold a fraudulent product.
When I kept asking for my refund — FreeUp BANNED MY BUYER ACCOUNT. Retaliation against a consumer exercising legal rights.

ACTIONS TAKEN:

— Legal notice served on Selsom Technologies Pvt Ltd and directors personally. Demanding Rs.25,000.

— Cybercrime complaint filed at cybercrime.gov.in

— Consumer court complaint ready — District Commission, Jaipur

— National Consumer Helpline complaint filed
FreeUp has 169+ complaints on PissedConsumer with 1.7/5 rating. Other reviewers on this very page have reported FreeUp promotes selling of counterfeit products and pays people for fake reviews. This is a pattern, not a one-off. PissedConsumer

1. First they cant charge in name of marketing- they say dnt do commission but they fraudulently charge for everything
2. Please keep weighing scale n weigh ur parcel they fraudulently say parcel is overweight like they intentionally say ur pracel is 100 g-150 g more than required n straight away charge 150 rs lol. In name of penalty
Reality is they give all our money to fill cheap influencer pockets
Be careful
Feel like taking legal action against them.
They promoting selling of counterfeit products which is banned- cheap ways to loot seller and buyer!

They also pay people for putting fake reviews!!!

This app is not a marketplace. This app is to earn people money on name of coins. They are forcing to sell products on heavy discount around 80% and from rest 20% they will charge their fee. This is very tricky app that is making people fool on the name of buying and selling. In actually they are making money from delivery charges and sale boosting by just rotating the products from one customer to another. At the end no buyer is getting product at cheap price and also no buyer getting any profit from selling their product.

Freeup is a genuine app - but most of the sellers sell flawed items which are worn out or stained or torn shoes or broken zip or having some defect. Freeup is unable to control it (I don't think anyone can)
Also from the buyers side - they want cheap stuff (next to free)
They should find a way to follow Amazon's model (protect the buyer and accept returns, no questions asked) before the buyer develops trust in the app

we are talking about FreeUp, the indian thriftstore app.
Which, for my experience, is a cesspool of scammers and cheaters.
Not only, the "earn coins" scheme is deceptive, because you cannot use them to buy “for free” because you have always to add some extra fees with real money. Helpdesk is absent, no phone number to call or responsable figures to refer to; newly introduced TOS (without users aknowledgement), is not covering Purchase Protection, (as falsely advertised) because excludes all Electronics, Appliances, Furniture or plants. I.E. if you buy a camera, and seller send you a brick, you will get no refund, and he will keep the money. Platform is complicit with fraudsters and when you report them, FreeUp bans you.
India is not new to this kind of scams (see scamcenters), and it is very difficult for common people, get rid of this fraud online.
