Roadside Assistance Blues
I picked up on a Saturday. One person was staffed. Needless to say the wait was very very long. My rental was supposed to a Rogue or similar, I left in a Kia carnival and had I refused, I would have left with nothing as this was the last available car on the lot. The car left me stranded on the interstate that night at 12 midnight, 8 hours away from my destination. But that’s not my biggest issue. Cars are mechanical, things happen, stuff goes wrong. My biggest problem with the whole experience is that the employees who are working the phone lines for your roadside assistance program, have no clue where to send your customers for an exchange in this situation. They do not know which offices are open, which ones are closed, if there will be a car available once you do get to a destination that actually is open. Had it not been for the tow truck driver knowing the area that I was in, and having previous experience with this kind of situation, I’m sure my trip would have been delayed a lot longer than 14 hours which included an unexpected over night hotel bill that I incurred. Hertz did refund that to me 5 days after I returned their vehicle. I’m a 62 year old female, traveling alone from NC to Texas and I rented a lot of cars and this experience was the worse one I’ve ever had. Your roadside assistance/customer service process needs a lot of work.
