Hubdoc programmers need to sit with a real small business person trying to use this program. It’s unintuitive, clunky & has too many steps to be time saving. I used to do my accounts manually using Excel & spent far less time. I then used DEXT with QB. When my accountant retired & I was moved onto xero & Hubdoc, I’ve found it so time consuming, I’m spending time trying to navigate Hubdoc that I should be spending generating income!

There should be a -5 option.

My accountant said this was a good program.

IT IS UTTER RUBBISH.

You setup accounts and it never lets you back in, delete them and start again.

You get one to work and then it will fall over and tell you wrong email or password.

I'm surprised by all the bad reviews. Hubdoc links perfectly to Xero for me and its very easy to e-mail receipts to Hubdoc or submit photos of receipts using the Hubdoc app.

Absolutely awful. Full of bugs and glitches. Doesn't publish seamlessly at all! Spent two whole days trying to sort and customer service is actually non existent. AVOID!

Since Xero bought Hubdoc there been a serious lack of investment. I've been using it for a couple of years and whilst it was never fantastic, it used to actually work most of the time. These days it hardly processes invoices automatically. I find myself far too often having to manually type stuff in.

Additionally, you are unable to copy and paste details from the PDFs (in the same way as you can in Xero itself).

This app hasn't changed since Xero bought it. They haven't applied any new technology or updates at all.

It's getting me down to be honest

Using Hubdoc with Xero
First time I used Hubdoc I felt everything was slick, took photos of receipts & invoices, matched them with Xero accounting lines, thought all was good.
When company accounts became due, I had multiple duplications of Hubdoc creating additional transactions for absolutely no reason. I had to manually search Xero to eliminate the erroneous duplicates. It's far more time efficient to simply take a photo using Xero app and upload it to the transaction you're reconciling - which is saying something as that process is a chore.
Avoid Hubdoc and it's terrible integration

Note: I am using Hubdoc with Xero.
Hubdoc is fine (impressive even) for extracting information from documents.
However, the documentation is lacking in essential detail. For instance, you MUST import your documents etc into Xero BEFORE you reconcile your transactions. Otherwise Hubdoc / Xero does not match the receipt to the existing transaction, so you get double entries. One for the transaction, one for the document from Hubdoc. And fixing that up is a massive headache.

Also, Hubdoc needs to remove the REQUIREMENT to choose an account code for the document when publishing to Xero. This is because Hubdoc does not support bank rules, nor is it easy to create split lines.
And when you reconcile in Xero, you CANNOT change the account code, or apply bank rules.

Let Hubdoc do what it is good at, extracting data. Then let Xero (or target app) do what IT is good at. Applying rules.

You also cannot unlink a Hubdoc document from Xero, without deleting it entirely. Which means that if you make a mistake, your only recourse is to download the documents from hubdoc to a local folder. Then delete the problem docs from Hubdoc and Xero. Then re-import the docs from your local folder to Hubdoc.

This kind of insane dance is unacceptable.

Had a second look after trying it when first started. Still absolute rubbish. NEVER to return. Boggy and inept app.

This app is absolutely terrible, my accountant recommended it with Xero which is all hard to use.
This app doesn’t seam to be designed for phones, sometimes the menu will be out of the screen like it doesn’t fit in my phone. Having to load receipt over and over and over. If you have bad phone signal it just doesn’t work. Iv been using it for 14 months now and really ready to move to FreeAgent or something else.

We have been using Hubdoc for the past 24 months, and in all honesty the service has steadily become more useless overtime. The app is the main issue, for instance we are forced to load the same receipt into the app over 3 times, and then because it fails to process the data you then have to go into the main web page to make all the changes and publish the results yourself.

Hubdoc just makes your life harder not smarter.

I have emailed the parent company Xero and received no feedback at all. I'm really not sure why Xero bought this company and then failed to invest in the technology, as it is only making the whole process of using Xero more difficult. I am truly being overly generous with this 2 star review when in truth it more like ZERO stars.

Is this for real?

The app doesn't work on iphone 12. Period. Constantly logs me out - now authentication fails. It's useless.

Not overly enamoured with Xero - but this piece of crap makes it all the simpler to try and get rid. As it is owned by the same company - I can see why.

Please don't waste your time or efforts on what is a floored accounting "package". As for Xero - that needs some serious investment in all the little flaws - but they continue to spend on ads first to keep attracting new users to replace those that are not happy with their service.

We got Hubdoc along with Xero, when we changed accounts package.
You actually can override the VAT calc, but selecting "Extracted Amount" in the VAT Rate box - but you might need your Xero partner to change a setting to allow for this.
It is clucky, but has saved us time, even though it cannot recognise the word INVOICE.
HOWEVER, our Hubdoc, even though we turned off Autosync (after it auto-posted 50 invoices as credit notes), auto-publishes when I'm at home asleep. Honestly, it posted a DD advice as an invoice at 4am this morning, today. Then it auto-published a supplier statement.
Also, it constantly loses configuration, so we have to type everything in - basically, most of the time, we're manually typing the invoices in as we did in the past.
Our Xero partner believes we are doing things wrong, and I cannot begin to explain any of this, but our Hubdoc belongs in therapy - it's awful.
I'm now asking for a different app, that I'd be happy to pay for personally, that actually does the job.
I hope everyone out there has a better experience than ours.

Has potential but as other have said its horribly clunky at the moment and the whole VAT issue with mis calculations is the most frustrating issue.

Currently does not save anytime in my mind.

Having recently started using Hubdoc I find it a complete waste of time. It is supposed to speed up data entry however not only does it take just as long to input the information, it doesn't work with any invoices that are slightly more complex ie. with different tax codes for different parts of the invoice.
It is clunky, slow and you have to click into boxes more than once to get them to register or fill.
I was looking for something to make my life easier, this actually does the opposite. It is very frustrating that it is being packaged as a tool to make book keeping easier! The people who made it need to go back to the drawing board and fix the whole system. I have used Datamolino in the past and thought it wasn't perfect but compared to Hubdoc it seems amazing.
Don't waste your time!
If you read this Hubdoc, please message me and I will let you know the various things which make Hubdoc a total let down so you can fix it!

As the title says, forget about posting anything where the VAT is even penny out. There is no way to make any sort of adjustment and the only thing to do is post an incorrect invoice to your accounts and then go in and amend it afterwards. It's supposedly free for users of Xero, but with the amount of duplicated work you'll need to do the true costs are far higher than most alternative suppliers.

Greatest fetching tool ever for online file management. Auto fetches bank statements, check images, deposit images, and allows for easy email forwarding of receipts, bills, and all other paperwork that needs to go into your financials and accounting. Use a specific email address or the mobile app to upload documents. Easily files everything for you in alphabetized folders for easy reference later. OCR technology allows you to search for words and numbers on any document it can read so pulling up a random check number or amount off all the paperwork in the system is easy (way better than attempting this in Google Drive or One Drive). Sync everything as needed into your accounting software along with the attachment and even export to your other cloud file storage systems. This system allows our clients to easily forward and automates sending us all their bookkeeping paperwork so we can do their books for them in the cloud. We love HubDoc, it has been a gem.
