The guides, who are usually locals, have always been wonderful--knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I particularly like that the company works to help the lives of the local people, like the water treatment plants in the Amazon. We toured with IE to Belize, Tanzania/Kenya, and the Peruvian Amazon.

I've taken 4 trips with International Expeditions, starting with Belize in 1992, followed by Costa Rica, Peruvian Amazon, and Indonesia. Every trip was outstanding from contacts with the office; the quality of pre-trip information; the careful, complete and dependable travel/transfer/lodging arrangements; and the outstandingly knowledgeable guides to the safety-minded and skilled drivers. Experiences on the trips were always high quality: birding walks, game drives, visits to local communities, exciting excursions like fishing for piranha (and then having the chef prepare them for our lunch). I could not be more pleased with my experiences with this company!

I first traveled with International Expeditions many years ago, to the Amazon. Since marrying, my husband and I have traveled with IE to Machu Picchu, the Galapagos, the Amazon & Africa. We don't care who else is out there. It will always be IE. They excel in keeping track of all details, political happenings, situations like the mud slides near Machu Picchu (lining up Plan B if we could not get there) & passenger safety. On a pre-excursion we were the only ones going to the tree top walkway in the Amazon and they still ran it for us, with our own guide. Last fall we were the only ones who signed up for that time period on a Kenya & Tanzania safari and the trip went on anyway. We had our own guides and our vehicles! Who else does that? It was an amazing trip, with a perfect range of places to stay and to visit. And, most importantly, the guides are always wonderful - knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and talented. We are always telling people our stories about the guides and the different ways they have impressed us. We've been so happy with the planning as well, giving us different types of accommodations with a range of experiences. We were lucky to meet Van Perry, at the time the new President, and some of his staff, on our Amazon trip. They had been researching places to visit during the low water season. They were gracious, friendly and so much fun to be with. We know there are cheaper tours out there. But it doesn't matter. Why risk it? If you are taking such amazing trips shouldn't they be perfect?

I will never use your company again.the trip of a lifetime and you give us a group leader who had not a clue how to run a tour.

I have traveled with IE to Kenya, Tanzania, Panama, Galapagos, Cuba, the Bahamas and Ecuador. Always carefully planned, excellent transportation, SMALL groups, 4-star+ accommodations, expert guides. Food far exceeded expectations. Never struggled with luggage nor visas, tipping, etc. Real pros. Focus has been nature oriented travel.

I have traveled with IE to Peru and Botswana and each trip was fantastic. The group leaders, staff, and everyone from the start was courteous and very knowledgeable about the county. Of course the destinations were fantastic, but the attention to detail that made every aspect of the trip special was such an added bonus. I am already planning another trip with them and would totally enjoy taking the trips I had again. Totally recommend for all ages and ability levels

I would strongly recommend them

This trip consisted of three distinct parts -- a stay in Kolkata, a 5-day cruise on the Brahmaputra River and a 2-day stay at Diphlu Lodge in the Kaziranga Park. The individual elements of the tour were very well done. However, there were serious problems with the transitions between the individual parts. On the day we left Kolkata for the cruise, we were awakened at 3:00 in the morning for a 6:00 am flight (we had originally been told it was a noon flight) and then went eleven hours with no food. This included a four hour road trip over exceptionally bad roads, about which we had not been told. The transition from Diphlu to Delhi, while not as bad, still could have been much better.
I wrote a long letter about this to International Expeditions, but heard nothing back in response. I would have liked at least an explanation or discussion about what had happened.

The best people to work with and great destinations that defy my imagination

After 15 trips with IE I highly recommend this company. There is no other way to put it, they just do things right. Expedition Leaders are the best. IE is not your garden variety tour adventure company.

We've taken 5 trips with IE, and all were exceptional until the last one. Communication was not as good before and non-existent after we left on the trip (especially when a problem developed). Overall this is a good company, although some of the employees may not be as responsive and/or knowledgeable as they should be.

Local travel companies and guides have been excellent on all trips, so I still recommend IE to friends despite our last disappointment,.

We have thoroughly enjoyed 5 major trips with I.E. - twice on safari in southern Africa (once in a small group tour and once as a custom tour for just the 2 of us), cruise to Cuba, Amazon River cruise, and a small group tour in India. And we highly recommend this company.

We have used I.E. for multiple trips. Our experience is that they are a first class company that provides very nice accommodations (but not outrageously expensive ones) and fantastic in-country guides. They do not cut corners like some of their competitors will do. We have closely compared their offerings to ones of cheaper trips to the same place and there's always an obvious reason for the lesser cost companies - less activity/tours during the days, less quality with respect to the guides, seeing fewer unique things in a particular place, etc. If I.E. offers a trip where we want to go, we will always choose them without wondering if we "could do better". We know that we cannot do better with respect to quality and activity.

Custom trip to Uganda Gorilla trek and game drives. Exceeded our expectations from start to finish. Price and value were right on point. Highly recommend checking them out.

These folks know how to do it right. Everything was beyond our expectations. The transportation was clean and on time, the drivers knowledgable, the guides were personable, helpful and with expert skills (with rafting, rappelling, hiking and horseback riding). Food they prepared was tasty and interesting. The other dining was exceptional-tasty, well presented-all good choices. I could not recommend them more highly.

We worked with Kim at International Expeditions to plan a safari for our family of 11 to Tanzania. Kim was absolutely the best -- knowledgeable, responsive, great suggestions and a pleasure to communicate with as travel plans were considered and finalized. Also, IE works with Ranger Safaris in Tanzania, who are the largest and arguably the best of the local safari providers. In the end, the quality of a safari depends on the skills of the driver/guides -- and I have to believe we had two of the very best in the country. Our family safari was a great success...due in large part to International Expeditions and their Tanzanian associates.

I have taken 3 trips with IE over the past few years and will travel with them again. They have excellent itineraries that allow you to experience your destination but without overwhelming you by cramming too much into each day. The expedition leaders and staff are bar none and the acommodations they use are phenomonal. You can’t go wrong with International Expeditions!
