Mushuthebrat's Thoughts on maxbone's Freeze-dried Meals
We’ve been testing maxbone’s new freeze-dried meals (beef and turkey) and have been genuinely impressed.
First, the ingredient transparency stands out immediately. The first few ingredients are clearly emphasized on the label and actually reflect what makes up the majority of the recipe. There are no major grain fillers leading the list like you see in some other freeze-dried kibble options. What you see is what you’re getting.
The pellet sizing is also intentionally varied, which I appreciate more than I expected to. It allows for precise portioning whether you’re feeding a full meal, using it for training, or stuffing enrichment toys. That flexibility makes it feel more versatile than many other freeze-dried options.
Mushu personally prefers the beef, but that’s purely his taste preference. Both proteins have been well tolerated and easy to rotate.
Freeze-dried in general has made traveling much easier for us, especially when paired with maxbone’s GO! foldable travel bowls and mat. No refrigeration, minimal mess, very convenient.
If I had one small suggestion, it would be to add a fish-based option in the future. Mushu is a big fish fan and I would love to see that protein included as the line expands.
Overall, this is a strong first consumable launch for maxbone and feels aligned with their clean, modern brand identity.

Another 5-star hit—perfect for my senior dog!
I’ve been a huge fan of maxbone for a while now, but I had to come back and leave another review specifically for their Glow Up Freeze-Dried Raw Turkey. After our senior dog absolutely loved the beef recipe, I decided to switch it up and try the turkey, and it has been just as big of a hit.
What I love about this food, especially for an older dog, is that it’s highly digestible and made with lean, high-quality turkey that helps maintain his muscle mass as he ages. It’s packed with superfoods like spinach, chia seeds, and blueberries which give me peace of mind knowing he’s getting those much-needed antioxidants and omega-3s for his immune system and joint health.
The texture is also fantastic—since it’s freeze-dried, it’s gentle on his teeth but still has that "fresh" aroma that gets him excited for every meal. If you have a senior dog or even just a picky eater, I can’t recommend maxbone enough. It’s real, wholesome food that actually makes a difference in their energy and coat.

Picky samoyed approves
We’ve had a really positive experience with maxbone so far. My samoyed is extremely picky, has a sensitive stomach, and isn’t very food motivated, but both the beef and turkey freeze-dried recipes were a hit. No stomach issues during the transition, and it actually made him more excited about mealtime, which has been great for training. The ingredients feel high quality and thoughtfully sourced, and everything was packaged beautifully. Really happy we gave it a try!

my pup loves maxbone food
my 12 year old Toby has always had a sensitive stomach, so he’s been on a vet-recommended diet for a while. Because of that, I’m usually pretty hesitant to change anything about his food. I wasn’t planning to switch him off his regular diet, but I wanted to try maxbone to see how he'd handle it as hes getting old and starting to slow down on walks and I want to up his protein intake.
I didn’t expect much at first, but Toby immediately loved it. He's always been super food motivated, and some meals he’ll just pick at, but when I added maxbone or even offered it as a treat, he cleaned his bowl every time. The bigger surprise was that it didn’t bother his stomach at all. That's normally the first issue we run into.
After a couple weeks of trying maxbone I noticed his skin looked healthier (less matting?). nothing dramatic, just one of those things you notice and realize its probably not a coincidence.

Zero care or quality
I ordered two harnesses, one in a set and spent close to $200 to be treated like a liar and like garbage by their customer service team. One harness I ordered is frayed on the bottom after a week of wear. Both harnesses have wear n tear to the D-rings, causing the color to fade. This is what I paid for?? I reached out to customer service on Dec 10 and was completely ignored. They clearly hoped I would forget about it because I got two automated “do you still need help?” emails before they finally replied saying that I wouldn’t be getting a replacement. Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service experience, with no empathy and zero care or accountability. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY.

Customer service will do anything to avoid you
UPDATE: They don’t send the correct item, then pass you around internally instead of fixing the problem. I had to follow up daily for a full week, repeatedly sending photos in different file formats, even though the issue was simply that part of the leash was missing. This went back and forth seven times for something that was clearly explained in the first email.
Now I’m being asked to respond again about this review. I’ve spent an unreasonable amount of time trying to resolve a very basic fulfillment error. It feels like the process is intentionally dragged out in the hope customers give up. Extremely poor customer service. I won’t purchase from them again.
