Nuestra experiencia fue con Mcrent Portugal. Intentar contactar con ellos es horrible, para contestarte un email tardan la vida. El tramite para recoger la autocaravana fuer muy lento, te hacen mirar un video con instrucciones que se contradice luego con las explicaciones que te dan, por luego vuleven a explicarte todo de nuevo. La autocaravana supestamente era nueva pero no canalizaba bien el agua des del primer dia, no se calentaba el agua. Contratamos a un transfer con ellos y no se adaptan a los horarios de tu vuelo. Cuando previamente lo habia consultado.
La atención de las chicas de la oficina de mcrent deja mucho que desear, sobretodo la de una tal Monica que es la que nos atendio al hacer la devolucion de la caravana.
Deberian revisar el personal que contratan y dar informacion más detallada de los servicios que ofrecen.

I created a Trustpilot account specifically to write this review because our experience was so disappointing.

We rented a McRent Urban Plus through FDM Travel and picked it up in Bergen. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish.
First of all, the pickup location is very inconvenient to get to from the airport, as it is located on the other side of Bergen in an industrial area.

When we picked up the motorhome, a very young employee went through the vehicle with us. We are two friends who had never driven a motorhome before, so we relied completely on the handover being thorough and informative. Unfortunately, it was anything but.

For example, she did not know how to access the grey water tank. She tried several times and eventually just said nervously, “it opens”. We were not shown how to use the water system or how to get water running from the taps, and the air conditioning was not explained either.

Most importantly, we were not told that the GAS was turned on. This was particularly concerning because their own instructions recommend that the gas should be turned off while driving. We therefore had no idea that the gas was on, and were actually uncomfortable using the stove because we had not been properly instructed.

These are just a few examples of how inadequate the handover was. To make matters worse, the instructions provided were not even for the exact vehicle we had rented, but for a larger model.
After two days, while parked at a campsite, one of us closed the sliding door. Apparently, the curtain had got caught and this pulled one of the plastic parts of the curtain frame out. The curtain itself was of very poor quality, and we simply kept it rolled down for the remainder of the trip.

We also found dirty dishes and a frying pan with a broken handle, which kept folding in towards the pan because it could no longer lock properly.

Then came the biggest disappointment.
When returning the motorhome, it was inspected extremely thoroughly, and they found two small scratches on the rear bumper, as well as the damaged plastic part of the curtain frame. We were charged for all of it and they took our entire NOK 9,000 deposit.
We had not hit a kerb or had any accidents during the trip, so being charged the entire deposit for two small scratches and a plastic part was incredibly frustrating and, in our opinion, disproportionate.
The motorhome had already cost us around DKK 40,000, so this turned what should have been a wonderful holiday into an extremely expensive one.

To be clear: Norway itself was absolutely fantastic, and the motorhome did not have any major mechanical problems. Our main issue was the extremely poor handover, the low quality of parts and equipment inside the vehicle, and the way the damages were handled upon return.

We would never recommend renting from this company based on our experience. If you are considering renting from them, I strongly recommend documenting every single detail and taking photos and videos of the entire vehicle before driving away.

He sufrido los mismos abusos que recogfen la mayoría de críticas a Mcrent Barcelona (Sallent). Me dieron la autocarvana con varios desperfectos, y con menos gasolina que la que me dijeron. Me han cobrado una reparación con un precio desproporcionado, sin atender el mail que les envié contando mi consulta a un profesional para valorar el trabajo que facturan. Ninguna respuesta.Respondieron automáticamente que me pusiera en contacto con la Central y lo he hecho, sin respuesta. Tampoco respondieron mi mail. UN SERVICIO NO RECOMENDABLE, PORQUE MULTIPLICAN LA FACTURACIÓN CON REPARACIONES (que creo que ya estaban cuando me la pasaron y nunca me mostraron elo video de partida) CON PRECIOS DESORVITADOS (690€, un pequeño corte). ¡BUSQUEN UNA ALTERNATIVA!

We rented a camper from McRent in Porto via goTravelhome.

Upon pickup, we received friendly but quick instructions (and a link to videos on YouTube) plus the familiar pre-inspection. Note: only of the exterior.

The interior looked good at first glance (except for the refrigerator, whose shelves were rusted).

However, on day 2, it turned out that 1 headlight and 1 taillight were not working. They may have been broken from the start. On the phone, we received a curt response saying "that the lights were working when they handed over the vehicle and that there were fuses and bulbs in the car; surely we could replace that ourselves?". We were already near a garage and asked for permission to have it repaired by phone on the spot. After a lot of grumbling, this was eventually allowed. The bulbs turned out to be broken after all, but the garage refused to use the bulbs from the spare set. Okay. We were instructed by the rental company to pay and hand in the bill upon return, and then it would be reimbursed. Well, not really. Upon our return, the employee in Porto had no authority and "could only register matters."

On the way, we lost the fridge grate; it probably rattled loose and wasn't properly secured from the start. A rubber cap also went missing from the storage control panel because the lift bed kept sliding past it.
That resulted in a hefty bill later on, because the entire panel had to be replaced.

When returning the camper, we also had quite a few points for improvement (including loose drawer fronts, a smelly greywater tank, missing drain plugs in the shower, grubby upholstery, many rattling parts, and a manual in Spanish that was also for a different camper model), but that was completely ignored. The duct tape we used to secure loose parts was ripped off without comment. They did suddenly make a fuss about a small crack on the inside of a window (it was already there, but there had been no internal inspection at all when we picked up!).
Both times I called or texted the head office in Lisbon while on the road, I was spoken to quite unfriendly.

Fortunately, we had bought out the deductible. But – certainly after reading other reviews – it seems that McRent frequently uses the 1500 deposit to slyly get hold of new parts..
Also, regarding the handling of the damages, we received either a meaningless answer or, eventually, no response at all.
And a week after arriving home, I received a text asking if I could email the bill for the lights again, as they had lost them. And then the message that they could not reimburse it because the bill turned out to be a "quote" and did not have a VAT number on it (which they hadn't mentioned on the Phone! ). Everything was written in Portuguese, so we hadn't noticed.

After intermediaton by Gotravelhome (3 weeks later) we received the costs for the lights back, plus some money for the inconvenience. And a polite explanation for the other costs. So that is a plus!

By the way, the claim that McRent's campers are a maximum of 2-3 years old is also incorrect. Ours was much older (we saw that on the registration certificate).

Pros:

• powerful engine
• we were able to leave our suitcases behind on the return day, because our flight wasn't until the evening

N.B. We have rented campers frequently in the Netherlands and abroad, so we can make a good comparison.

The service seemed decent initially. BUT It's really disappointing to find out that we were charged €1260 for a mosquito net we didn't even know existed, especially since it costs €30. Beware of these scammers who are just looking for any reason to hold onto your deposit.
