Montezuma's Chocolate Reviews 

Great chocolate. I usually buy the couverture and use it for snacking and baking. I had a problem with my last order (my mistake in ordering) and was helped to put it right very quickly via email despite it no doubt being a very busy time for them. I also appreciate that they are keeping the high quality (of the couverture at least, can't comment on other chocolates) and are not making it 'cheaper' by changing the recipe or ingredients

Bought some delicious giant white chocolate buttons before Christmas, I loved them so much I went back for more this week but they don’t sell them anymore, shame they were soooooo good. I bought the small ones, hope they taste the same. The dark chocolate peanut butter truffles were a hit with the family too so I’m going to try the white chocolate ones.

I have been to the Guildford store many times but on my last visit I found it to be more enjoyable than ever. The lady was so funny when we were talking about the different flavours of mint and peppermint chocolate. I love the way they love the product and you can see the passion when you talk to them - it’s always so inviting they are always so friendly and I simply love the variety

What has happened to the delicious Montezuma Chocolate bars? We usually eat the Fitzroy and the Dark Side. We've actually thrown away our most recent bars as they have very poor mouthfeel and lacks body and depth.
We have been enjoying Montezuma's chocolate bars and buttons for years, but will now have to find a different (gluten-free) chocolate sadly

I was going to order with them, but needed ask question. I phoned up with my landline that works perfectly well for entering numbers with other companies like Amazon, but their robot answerphone gave me three options. I pressed 2 many, many times and on several different calls and it kept on ignoring that I'd chosen an option and answerphone just kept saying you have failed to make a choice and thus making it impossible for me to speak to anyone. I can't be the only person with a landline their answerphone doesn't recognise, but though I've now reported it to them they refuse to accept there's anything wrong. Sort of "well it's working our end" - when it isn't at mine, and many several other customers end of the line.

Delirious chocolate.

Montezuma chocolate has been my chocolate of choice for many years. First, dark with chilli now it's 100% dark especially with almonds. Excellent quality, great taste with positive health benefits included!

WOW! What a delicious experience. I found my first bar of 100% Absolute Black in a health food shop after reading somewhere this kind of chocolate is actually good for you and can raise your serotonin levels, plus stop cravings for sugary, palm-oil based alternatives. I ordered a huge bundle online at Montezuma's website, got free shipping too! I now eat a few squares each day, thus replacing all my sugary snacks and feeling better and healthier for it. It was easy to order online and I was able to get some extra discounts and special deals too.

Awful website , and the aftersales help via email even worse.

Rude and unhelpful. Hopefully they won't be in business much longer.

Popped into Winchester store for a small chocolate birthday gift. Very little choice that wasn’t in Christmas packaging, so selected a bar of chocolate.
Disturbed assistant’s hair conversation with her colleague to pay. Assistant refused cash, so paid by card and asked for a receipt. Told I could only have one if I handed over my email or phone number. Asked how long it would take to arrive – she didn’t know.
If you like to use cash, expect good service, or prefer not to share personal data, other shops are available (including a new one with friendly staff and a much wider choice of products) – I won’t be returning to Montezuma.

I popped in to the Oxford shop to replenish my supplies of Absolute Black buttons. I noticed a while ago that they had changed from large buttons to something resembling chocolate chips but thought maybe it was a faulty batch. Today I was appalled to find that not only had the price risen considerably but the weight had been reduced by 30% from 180g to a measly 120g per packet. While I understand global conditions are a problem and expect to pay more, this degree of ‘shrinkflation’ is beyond reasonable. Sadly, I will need to find another source.

As others have said, the recipe for the previously creamy and delicious buttons has changed. You also seem to pay more for less. I've tried a few bags from different retailers - neither of them came close to the original. This is certainly not worth the premium price tag and I'll be buying elsewhere going forward.

Montezuma’s have changed their chocolate buttons. They taste horrible - what a shame ! Popped into the Montezuma’s shop in Oxford and they said they are the same as before ! After more questioning they then said they have added vanilla extract to the ingredients. Will have to find another brand now as Montezuma’s have really messed theirs up.

I tried another bag of the 74 per cent dark chocolate "organic" buttons, just to see if I'd been wrong with my previous review, and they were even worse. Dry, tasteless, scuffed, hard. I'd appreciate a proper response from Montezuma's having seen the other poor reviews. Why not bring back the old recipe and charge more? I'd pay for that.

I have been buying the organic giant large chocolate buttons for a few years now and loved them. I have read a few reviews saying they no longer tasted nice but I presumed they must have had a bad batch. Having just purchased a bag I can see exactly what they mean. The flavour has really deteriorated, they are smaller (certainly not giant anymore) and really dry now, not smooth and creamy at all. They look like they’ve been bashed around and taste cheap and not nice at all. I am gutted as these were a real treat that I enjoyed. As I understood it, there is a new budget option which is cheaper and contains an emulsifier which may appeal to some (not me) Why on earth has this recipe changed for the organic buttons, when the ingredients and packaging are still the same? You are going to lose most of your customers over this, unless you change back. What a shame.

We have been buying Montezuma's giant dark 74% chocolate buttons for several years now, but recently the quality has gone massively down hill. They used to be larger, flatter and really smooth and creamy with a beautiful flavour. Now they are smaller, thicker and look like they've been bashed around a bit, but most disappointingly, the texture and taste have gone down hill. They are no longer smooth and creamy, and flavour has an underlying taste of burnt sugar. We thought it was maybe a problem with a batch but after waiting a while and trying again (and emailing Montezuma's with no reply) I've googled it and see they've changed the range and altered the recipe. Very disappointed as these were such a family favourite, but we will no longer be buying.

I got some chocolate that says it's butter scotch milk chocolate and I got to be honest it taste like plain dark chocolate I wonder if something went wrong with the packaging because there is no taste of milk chocolate let alone butterscotch! I bought it as a one of as I buy hotel Chocolat because it's nicer but have to say I'm disappointed!

Delicious chocolate based products that are smooth and creamy but not too sweet. Good delivery service

Bought a huge tub of Peanut Butter Eggs for a party. Friends and family absolutely loved them!

Ordered some chocolate and an Easter egg, one item missing from the order and the Black Forest egg completely broken up, I am waiting for a response to my two emails. I am very disappointed.
