I had the absolute best experience with National Car rental out of the Detroit Airport. From pick up to drop off all of the employees were friendly and helpful. I want to especially highlight a wonderful young lady named Caroline who went out of her way to help with with an issue I had and solved it quickly and much to my satisfaction. I will definitely rent from them again.

I wouldn't recommend National Alamo or Enterprise to my worst enemy they told me they wouldn't accept my card that is on file that I used earlier in the week at the same location at the Detroit airport but they still took my money didn't give me car it's been a week and every time I call customer service they give me the run aroun. If this is how you treat your Executive members then I can go and spend my good money somewhere else

I am an Emerald club member for many years, and had a reservation for a full size pickup truck!
I was looking for two brand large size truck when I booked and it was confirmed that this location has these two large size trucks! I went there a bit earlier and these two brand cars were not available! Instead, I have taken a large SUV! The manager asked me you have to book this SUV and we cannot give it to you! I said I booked for large tuck and you guys don’t have availability, I don’t need small size pickup truck! By the way, how can I book this car if you are not allowing people to know what car they can get at the location specifically!
The manager rudely said you backup and put the car back in the line, and take whatever you booked we cannot give you any other car! I asked I am the Emerald club member and I can use this car! He told me very rudely again that I am lying to him, that I don’t know what did I lied about, and he very rudely said he will not give me any car although I have a reservation!
I ended up getting a pickup car with a bad indoor smell, whether somebody smoke inside or something else, and absolutely not even cleaned inside!
I had a terrible experience with this location and this manager! I don’t recommend this location to anyone!

con conducente un caro amico.
All' arrivo presso la sede National di Malaga all' amministrazione si rifiutano di consegnare la macchina perché il conducente (nostro amico) aveva con se la carta di credito virtuale e non fisica per il deposito cauzionale.
Per risolvere propongo di utilizzare la carta di credito di mia moglie in quanto la prenotazione è a nome suo (e la carta era in nostro possesso in versione fisica).
Proposta rifiutata.
Propongo di aggiungere me stesso come guidatore perchè avevo con me una carta di credito fisica e potevamo utilizzarla.
Proposta che viene rifiutata.
Telefono all' assistenza di DoyouSpain. Parlo con Diana operatore 11 e spiego l'accaduto.
Propongo per risolvere due soluzioni
1) Cancellare la prenotazione precedente con rimborso e in contemporanea creare una nuova prenotazione a nome mio in quanto potevamo utilizzare la mia carta di credito

Propongo in alternativa aggiungere sulla prenotazione esistente me stesso come secondo guidatore ed utilizzare la mia carta di credito fisica.

Risultato di questi continui rifiuti. Siamo stati senza macchina con soldi persi della prenotazione senza avere il diritto di viaggiare come turisti.
Visto la buona fede da parte nostra nel voler trovare delle soluzioni ci siamo scontrati di fronte alla rigidità del personale di National e di DoyouSpain a telefono, entrambi senza alcuna voglia o interesse nell' aiutarci.
Consiglio innanzitutto di evitare intermediari come DoYouSpain perchè le compagnie quando ci sono problemi "scappano" e girano la responsabilità all'intermediario.
National siete stati troppo rigidi senza alcun interesse nel voler trovare una soluzione con gruppo di turisti che vi ha messo sul tavolo ben 2 carte di credito in versione fisica. Pessimi.
First and last time I will Use this Company…
This was my first and it will be my last experience with National Car Rental. I joined the Emerald member program and booked a reservation using a corporate discount code. With this code and as an Emerald member, I was supposed to receive any vehicle I wanted from the Emerald Aisle as well as free additional drivers for family members. When I got to the arrived at Richmond International Airport, I was lied to and manipulated into getting a lesser vehicle. My daughter was to be added at no additional cost and I was told I would be charged $15 per day for her. All of these were lies. Once we requested the car swapped for what we were supposed to receive, this person identifying herself as the manager (which I found out later was a lie) named Melissa White; she refused to help us; was belligerent and combative and on a power trip; and then had the audacity to tell me, if I called in to National to complain, we would not get any rental car that day indicating that she had the power to deny us any vehicle at her will. This is despite having an already paid for and executed agreement. She was ignorant of the contract terms, told us lies, misrepresented herself and National Car Rental; and approached us with no comprehension of the National terms clearly specified in our contract and with a level of overt aggression and hostility that she needs to find a different line of work. I will never rent from National again as I have rented for years from Hertz, Avis, Alamo, Payless and Enterprise for decades and never had this level of foolishness in a rental in all my experience. I do not recommend using National Car Rental and I highly recommend avoiding the Rental Counter at Richmond International Airport. Our party was disrespected, mistreated and belittled and THAT is not acceptable.

Be very wary when you rent a car from National or Alamo at the Savannah airport. I was told the cost to rent a vehicle for a month would be $1500. When they charged me $1900. they assured me I would get the $400 credit back to me when I returned the car. Well I have called, emailed numerous times and now they say it costs $1900. BUYER BEWARE!!!!

DO Not rent a car from this rental company I rented a car when driving out thru the booth i asked the employee to look around the car she refused to get off her seat or get out of the booth to look around the car. neve put in the computer the damage on the car When dropping off I asked the attendant the same are you coming out to see the car she said no she refused and said will check it in later. I received a bill for $1300.00 a few days later that I did not do. I drove the car 2 hours and dropped off. What a scam
Rude and unhelpful…
They are such a rude company I’m surprised they are still in business. A simple request for help at London City Airport today was met with a sarcastic reply from a particularly surly individual. Thankfully I’m not their customer and never will be.
Worst Customer Service
We had the worst attitude and customer service in Antalya with National Car rental!! First of all we ordered a suv and the suv they offered was smaller than a car. Then they offered us a car with 129$ extra charge daily!!!my husband has an emerald statue in National! When we compare the customer service in America, the staff Ahmet told us “ this is not America, this is Turkey, we don’t operate the same! After we dropped off the car, my son forgot his Ray Ban sunglasses in the car when went back the next morning they said they don’t have which we clearly know where left it! We tried to reach the corporate office in Istanbul but couldn’t reach anyone!!
We will never rent from National in Turkey again and will tell all our friends about our experience!!

San Antonio Airport, National Car Rental....The service I received was outstanding there. I was treated with respect, well taken care of and professional with the personell there Cynthia, Mr Wolf in the parking lot and Anthony and AL at the counter. They all was very helpful and informative to make sure I was comfortable and recieved the utmost attention in a nice timely manner......Thank you all once again,....
National screwed me in Japan
I had a reservation for a van for 2 weeks in Hokkaido Japan. My flight changed and I was due to arrive a day later. I called National to ensure it was OK, and they said they had no cars available. Incomprehensible that if I arrived a day late, there were no cars. I used to love National, but they abandoned me in Japan. I rented from Toco and they took care of me.

On Nov 10th, 2022 I rented a car from Nationa car rental at Billy Bishop airport. On Nov 12th at night, the car made a weird noise. I barely drove it anywhere, it probably had 35 miles on it from the moment I took it. So I called enterprise the morning of the 13th and they said to drop it off at Pearson airport as there was no other cars to exchange it for at Billy Bishop. I told them the car seemed to make noise and the representative said if it moves then it would be faster an easier to just drive it to Pearson and get a replacement car then wait for a towing truck. So I drove it to Pearson and received another car. Keep in mind I had a toddler with me this entire time and my pregnant wife, and I told the representative that it may not be safe as I have a child with me. He didn’t say anything except to just drop it off and to get another car. I told the desk that the car had some mechanical issue and I have nothing to do with it. I did not get an accident and the car was mostly parked. On Nov 17th I received an email from Damage Recovery. They requested information on the damage. I sent 3 emails explaining what happened exactly. All emails explained that the car did not get in an accident and it was parked 85% of the time and was used very lightly. I received No response. On Dec 10th I received an email stating that I owe $1904.02 for the following damages a catalytic converter, an oxygen sensor bank upstream and downstream. First of all catalytic converters are damaged due excessive clogging. Meaning it doesn’t go bad suddenly in one day, so I wasn’t the one who caused the excessive clogging, this is due to National not maintaining their cars. Second of all oxygen sensor banks are damaged by excessive byproducts of combustion. Meaning i couldn’t have damaged the sensor in one day by driving less than 40 miles. It absolutely makes no sense! It’s such a shame that these mechanical issues could have been avoided by the maintenance, because not only did they cause me great inconvenience by having to replace a car in the middle of my vacation but having to put my toddler and my pregnant wife in a car that was very unsafe to drive just because it was inconvenient for them to tow it and replace it. And now they bill me for their incompetence of maintaining their cars! I should be refunded for the inconvenience and stress I had to go through! Unbelievable do not rent from them!!!!
National refuses to give me a receipt for payments already collected
I am a long time elite member of National, this time I am in Dublin, IR and I rented a car for about three months. National used it partner Enterprise to process the rental, this people have already charged my credit card for the 1st month, then for the 2nd month in advance (I am billed monthly), but they totally refused to give me a receipt for the charges they made to my credit card, charges that have already been posted. They say that I won't get a receipt till I return the car in December. This makes no absolute sense, they already charge my card, payment has already been posted, but I won't get a receipt for the payment already done?
Worst Experiment Ever on YYZ National Car Rental
I am an Executive Emerald Member of National Car Rentals and their service at Toronto (YYZ) Airport is the worst I have ever experienced from a car rental company.
I booked a Luxury car and when I went to pick it up they said there were no cars on my category so I was out of luck. I told then I could wait until a car would be returned and cleaned. They responded that I needed walk the lot and pick a car or that they were going to pick my car for me but that I needed to leave ASAP.
The staff was not helpful at all. The car they gave me was dirty inside and the back windshield was extremely dirty. I couldn't see through it at night time. I found long hairs all over the car (trunk, driver seat, back seat and over the steering wheel. Whoever cleaned the car did a horrible job.
I ended up calling National Customer Service and they asked me to return the car an get another one. I went back the next day and their staff was very rude and said here to go. This is the only car we have for you and don't complain. I was not happy with their rudeness and lack of respect.
They had other cars on my category but they took them away the aisle where I was able to get them just after I asked if I could pick those cars. There were 2 cars there and the National/Alamo staff got on these cars and hid them for other customers that had not yet arrived to the place.
If you are thinking of renting a car in Toronto Airport, please Do Not Pick National or Alamo if you want a good experience. Trust me!
Try to con you by blaming prior damage on you -avoid
When we collected the car (Bergerac) we were told by the attendant that all the damage on the car was recorded on file and that they had images of the damage (it was a heavily marked car). Then when we came to return the car, we were accused of having caused a large scuff to the bumper that was already there when we had collected the car. When I tried to dispute this saying I was told that the company had prior pictures and a damage record, I was told that the damage record for the car was blank and no photos existed or had ever been taken. Luckily we had taken our own photos of the car and could prove the damage was not caused by us. Before I had been able to find the photo, the attendant told us he was convinced the scratch was new because of the way it looked (which was clearly a lie) and that he knew all of his cars inside out and that he had thoroughly inspected this one himself prior to renting it to us (which was also clearly a lie). It felt like we were being scammed as vulnerable tourists and I would not use this company again or recommend it to friends.
They used to be great
They used to be great. I don't know what happened. Now I have to spend more time with customer service to get things right than ever before. Waste of time in my opinion. I should just be able to rent a car and return it. They promise one price then charge another on return. I ask/reserve a specific car type and when I get there, it's not available. I am an executive elite member, I used them a lot... No more. Time getting what's expected it more valuable than time waiting on the phone with customer service.
I'm done with national.
National Can Not Be Trusted!
Booked a car with National for Villahermosa airport in Mexico for 24th November 2019. I arrived at the airport only to be met by their agent saying that the car I booked was not available and that they had no other cars available at all, and I had to request a full refund through the booking website. The booking website refused a refund saying they only provide partial refunds even though no service was provided. I attempted a chargeback only for it to be refused as National claimed it was a no-show and denied that no cars where available. National acted very dishonestly and the booking company holidayautos.com can not be trusted to honour service obligations. I had to book a car with another rental company costing even more, plus the original booking amount that was lost.
Not only should the car I booked have been available, or at the very least an alternative, National should also be honest about this when trying to get a refund for services not provided!
DO NOT EVER BOOK WITH NATIONAL OR HOLIDAYAUTOS.

Booked (and paid 1000 euro's) the rental car upfront. Upon arrival at the desk of National in New Orleans Airport a lady called Merrel (or Merryl) offered no service at all. What a horrible person!!! After showing the voucher and credit card she told us that the name on the booking was not the same as the name on the credit card and therefor she could not give the car to us???? What??? I paid that car in full upfront! They only needed the credit card to charge the safety deposit of 200 USD. What a BS! It was the beginning of my holiday.... No rental car!!! I had to book a new rental car (again over 1000,- euro) because of her and lost not only an extra 1000 euro but also almost a day to get that arranged. National Rental Car -> NEVER! NO MORE!
Great experiences both in Denmark and Spain
I have used National 2 times both in DK and in Spain and both have been a wonderful experience.
I already booked them for my next trip to Denmark in November.
Downgrade sold as "same class" without compensation
I have recently completed my rental of one of National's vehicles in LA, USA. I booked a "Jeep Grand Cherokee or similar" online. However, upon arrival I got to choose between a Jeep Compass and a Dodge Journey. I know that I cannot expect to get the exact Jeep G.C., but I do expect a car in a similar class - this was not the case, as only much cheaper options were presented to me. I ended up taking the Dodge, but with no discount.
I used National (and not the cheaper competitors) to avoid situations like this. Is this really what to expect from National?!
