I bought a few technical books from them since one or two years ago. I signed to have access to lots of books and no problems till now. The user interface could be better but it works. Many good books, good authors.

What they claim a 7 day free trial is simply a scam trap. I signed up the plan and cancelled on the 6th day of the trial but was still charged for an upcoming full month charge that I never intend to continue with. Plus the quality of the books/medias on their website are really not as good as expected. Most of the content is simply pack of repetitive information that's not deep enough to tackle real problems. Be aware of their nasty trick and never fall in their scam trap.

They have notorious way to keep you billing once you enroll.
I tried to cancel and they said that after 3 months they will auto start my subscription.
I am now trying to permanently delete/cancel my subscription and there is no such option.
This is fraud/scam if they dont give customer choice to stop subscription

I cancelled my subscription and it's still showing that it's due for renewal in my account, I contacted support from their help page and haven't heard back yet....
Update: They responded and promptly resolved the issue.

UPDATE. Packt support got in touch with me and have refunded the monthly subscription I was charged after I couldn't cancel the free trial. It has come through to my bank account. I appreciate that they followed up after I posted the original review below.
Made the mistake of signing up for a free trial. Went to cancel the subscription before the trial ran out but it wouldn't let me go to my account. I figured the unsubscribe had worked then since I no longer had access. Then a few days later after my card has been charged, suddenly I can access the my account page again. Very DODGY. Stay away.

Response within 24 hours from customer support, but to tell me my case has been marked as resolved ... ?! Also, a link to the registration page, which I'd been using already. If there's no idea why 'username required' keeps coming up every time I tried to do the forced registration in order to complete purchase, that makes me doubtful about the site overall. The fact that every time I went back into the browser, my email has been retained by them, didn't impress me either. Had tried clearing cache/cookies a few times, and turning off SOME add-ons (the point of using them is privacy, after all). Only went so far with that. Final straw was also the survey going to office.com ... I'd hoped to explain case not resolved. It is resolved now, by me ... don't shop there is the solution.
In response to Packt's answer, I had already replied with the case number, on first hearing from them, but unfortunately didn't get a response.

I came across a so called new website namely - packt.com yesterday.
Tried to order couple of books, but was not able to complete the transaction. I am not sure if packt.com is a legitimate link or my credit card is at risk.

One day my subscription ended even though I was already billed that month. After going back and forth with support and a very hard to follow explanation, what I gathered was that their system failed to bill several months back, and the last payment was for that missed bill 6 months ago. So, they asked me if it was ok to bill me again for that month to reactivate my subscription. No explanation of why my subscription was deactivated anyway, or why they failed to communicate the billing error to begin with. I guess I was deactivated for failure to pay even though I was set up to auto pay through paypal. I guess that one month payment they missed because of their mistake was more important than keeping a long time customer. Previous to that they offered me a free subscription as a college professor, and that was deactivated abruptly, then I was told that was only offered for a trial period, which wasn't mentioned when I signed up. Overall just bad communication.

Packt has had a lot of technical issues. Changes made to their web site were not well done. That has resulted in some very erratic behaviors. However, those behaviors are inconvenient, annoying, even; not fatal.
I've had nothing but good responses from the support team. They reply in a reasonable time, and they follow up.
Issues raised about the quality of the books have some merit. It's very uneven. Some books are top shelf, others seem to have been published without being proofread. I have found only a couple of technical errors, but many grammatical and textual mistakes. These detract from what otherwise would be excellent technical books.
The annual subscription includes a credit each month for a ebook or video. There are other ways to get credits, as well. At minimum, at the end of the year you will have acquired 12 ebooks or videos at no cost. And as a subscriber, you get to "try before you buy."
All in all, I have found the service good, the people pleasant, and the products worth my expense. (Now, if they would just get that web site fixed. ;-)

1 star is given because I can't give them anything lower than that. Fraud company, deceived me into paying. They charged me for 10 months, doubled my subscription for last 4 months, never used their books or services. I emailed them with all the evidences so I did to to paypal, so coldly I was replied, sorry you lost your money, we can't do anything. Charged me for 10-11 months for nothing. Never informed me about being charged or charges increased. I only noticed my card statement when my direct debit didn't cover enough money to this monthly subscription. all complaints, emails were sent on deaf ears. I am particularly very disappointed with the way they replied to me without investigating my case or genuine request of refund.

Briiliant idea, yet the user interface/experience is just absolutely awful. Full of bugs (i've subscribed yet constantly get told to subscribe to view stuff until the web page reloads about 10 times it will register me as subscribed). Watching video courses and progress is not tracked properly, it just ticks off videos at random even though you have watched them all fully. and the amount of server down time is ridiculous. Sort it out Packt you have a really good idea/model just an absolutely awful website

They deceived me by saying $5 for 5 months. However, then they changed their mind by $5 per month for 5 months. Their website are full of bugs and their customer relations cannot solve any issue. It is the worst experience in online publishers that I have seen. Even if they offer free service, you should stay away. I regret reading the reviews here and buying it anyway.

I got an email with a coupon. I have had trouble with the website in the past. It was a 50% off coupon. So, I gave ordering another chance. I had trouble ordering. I'm going back to Manning books. I'm unsubscribing from Packt emails.

Packt is full of bugs. Even when you are a subscriber, it's hard to access the books. In addition, the button to cancel the subscription isn't working. I tried to get a refund but they don't care.
It's sad because the book's contents are truly good.

Yesterday I cancelled the subscription from their site and from Paypal, and today they tried to renew the subscription without my permission. And they do not have my permission when I cancelled the subscription, correct? So If haven't cancelled it at PayPal too then they would have charged me... This is a very bad attitude. I have cancelled my subscription through Packt website 2 months ago, but my account is still getting charged. I visited the website again to cancel my subscription but there is no option to update the subscription or billing details.
