Saxton Mee (Hillsborough) were the conveyancing estate agents on the sale of mine/my ex husband’s property, which was being sold due to divorce. Where to start… Despite being a seemingly straightforward sale and accepting an offer after the house was on the market for just 1 week, it took over 7 months to complete.
The first disappointment came when I received some awful viewing feedback on the house. Obviously the sale was not out of curiosity but a necessity, it was my dream house that I did not want to sell but had been put in a situation where I simply had no choice, so I asked my mum to go in branch for me, (as I work full time) to speak to the agent and tell them I didn’t wish to be included in the feedback emails. They told her “most people like feedback” and that “I was the only person who had complained”, making me feel like I was being awkward and demanding during what is one of the most difficult and stressful times of my life. They also scheduled a viewing for 3pm on the day that I couldn’t accommodate as I’d been at work and not seen their missed calls/emails, the house wasn’t suitable for viewing and I only just managed to cancel it in time, so I also asked my mum to feed back that I needed 24 hours notice for viewings, which is a reasonable request.
I then received a letter from my ex’s solicitor, and was horrified to read in it that they had stated my mum had “overly involved herself” in the sale and “obstructed the sale process.” She had also apparently “cancelled viewings with more than 24 hours notice.” I wondered how on earth they could know this information as it certainly hadn’t come from me and none of it was correct.
On the verge of a breakdown, the next day I came in to the branch after another sleepless night, and Tara (who had had no previous dealings with our sale) clarified that Shannon had in fact called my ex husband behind my back, and told him about my mum coming into the branch. It was in fact my mum who had recommended Saxton Mee to me originally and I was stunned. I asked why they had done this and what the purpose of this call had been, she simply said “we have to tell him everything.” Everything? Heartbroken and sobbing, I explained this information was of no relevance to the sale whatsoever and had now been completely misconstrued by my ex’s solicitor, effectively throwing gasolene onto the already raging fire. They just kept saying “we do understand” when clearly they do not, and that it’s hard to liaise with 2 people separately… Really? I lost all trust in them at this point as I wondered what other information was being passed on without my consent.
Tara promised me a call from Gregg, the branch manager, who called me the next working day and simply tried to make light of the situation – there was no apology. By this stage I had almost no furniture left as I had sold it all, and I had been eating my meals sitting on a camping chair with a fold up table for 4 months. Gregg said to me “I liked your little set up with the kitchen table.” 3 words- read the room. He then started asking me about my budget, and what sort of property I was looking for. He said he’d keep an eye out for me, in the whole 7 months he has sent me 1 house, which sold before I could manage to book a viewing. I asked Gregg to write a statement proving that the false claims made by my ex’s solicitor were not true. This had little bearing on the final result, as the damage had already been done.
My weekends, evenings and even days at work, were took up with reading and replying to emails (mostly from Shannon.) To date, there have been about 150 emails since the house sold. Most of which did not contain any kind of update and just said things were “being chased.” I have never known an estate agent be so involved in a house sale. She even tried to arrange completion dates (which the solicitor usually knew nothing about) and at times they were asking each other for advice, it was truly the blind leading the blind.
I’m afraid I cannot recommend Saxton Mee to anyone, getting divorced and moving house are both stressful enough separately let alone together, and they made this process even more stressful than it needs to be.

Terrible service! They do not communicate and are rude when talking on the phone. They have no patience and no follow ups. I do NOT recommend this agency!

The team at Saxton Mee Hillsborough has been brilliant from day one. Very professional valuation, polite and helpful staff dealing with queries. They sold my flat, for full asking price, in six days! Worth every penny

Very impressed with Saxton Mee Banner cross branch., in particular Janet Stevenson. Living away from Sheffield, Janet managed the sale of our property from start to end. She was always prompt to inform me of viewings and reply to correspondence etc. As our sale was progressed, she was very efficient and effective at communicating and resolving/chasing up queries etc. Saxton Mee has very good links with my solicitor at Taylor and Emmet. When our buyers solicitor was slow to progress the sale, Janet and Sally from Taylor & Emmet communicated well together to progress the sale to a more swift completion. Would highly recommend Janet at Saxton Mee Banner Cross Branch to sell your home.

Tim and Stephanie initially gave a good sales pitch and said everything that a prospective seller would want to hear. We gave the go ahead for them to market our family home and from there on in the cracks started to show.
The marketing photos that were taken were shambolic - these had to be retaken and even then were below the standard you would expect for a home of this calibre. They also promised that they would put together a marketing video - this never happened and as everyone knows this is a crucial marketing tool in this day and age.
Once the property had gone to market there was absolutely no marketing other than it being listed on right move - this was a far cry from the promises made in the sales pitch. They promised pro active marketing, and delivered absolutely nothing!
After the one viewing that they managed to secure there was no feedback given and then no updates in the weeks that proceeded that. Their communication was none existent!
We chose to terminate the contract with them after the 12 week initial marketing period and despite them being in breach of contract (failing to deliver on several of the basic terms of the contract) they hounded my mother for the £250 cancellation fee, to the extent of sending her a court letter.
Absolutely disgusting behaviour, do not trust the selling of your home to Stephanie and Tim, they are cowboys within an already untrusted industry.

I have a few properties in sheffield and Derbyshire and Saxton Mee does the letting for me. I deal mostly with Sandra Henry and she is absolutely marvellous. She is highly efficient and if she says she is going to do something she does. She also advises me on rent and the different services available. I thoroughly recommend her .

Dronfield branch - great service getting house on the market and viewings. However as soon as the sale was agreed communication and updates were non existent

All of the staff have always been there when we have had a question and have regularly checked in with us throughout the process. Especially Sue and Alice, they have been extremely helpful and lovely to work with and have guided us through everything as it was our first time selling.

Recently sold our house in a couple of weeks with the Banner Cross branch. We were 100% impressed with the commitment of all the staff. Vanessa did the valuation and was absolutely correct in her assessment and extremely knowledgeable and professional. Janet was the link who kept us up to date with every step of the way, regarding viewings and ongoing progress with solicitors etc. Emails and phone calls were responded to immediately. Louise kept us informed of progress with the continuing chain complications. Highly recommend them.

We recently bought and sold properties using Saxton Mee. We had a fantastic experience liaising with the team at Stocksbridge and Hillsborough. They always contacted us if we left a message for them to do so and never rushed us. The team took the time to explain anything that we didn't understand and and it felt like they held our hand when dealing with some tricky legalities that we encountered along the way.
In all honesty every single member of the team that we dealt with from start to finish was very friendly, professional and dedicated to selling our house quickly and helping us to secure a property that we wanted to buy
Fantastic service provided by all the staff at both the Hillsborough and Stocksbridge offices.

Viewed a few houses in my local area with this estate agent. Sales representative were not very good at all. Their sheer lack of communication once having placed bids on a house was incredibly poor and if there was an option to give a zero rating I would.

Never use Dronfield branch Banner Cross are far superior in efficiency and customer service.

I am more than happy to recommend and compliment the Dronfield Saxton Mee staff for the excellent service I have received. They have been professional, friendly and helpful it seems as though you are dealing with friends. They are empathetic and will advise if needed or asked for. Although friendly they are utterly professional. It nearly makes me want to move house myself, well done Tim.
