The Scottish Legal Complaints Commission (SLCC) is an independent statutory body providing a single point of contact for all complaints against lawyers operating in Scotland. We manage complaints that relate to the service provided by lawyers – offering resolution and providing redress where appropriate We refer complaints about the personal conduct of lawyers to the ‘relevant professional organisation’ (e.g. the Law Society of Scotland, the Faculty of Advocates). We give advice on complaints to all parties and issue guidance and encourage best practice in complaint handling and issues that lead to complaints. We monitor practice and publish trend reports – to help ensure the sector learns from complaints made.

Once SLCC has made a decision on your case, no matter how absurd or illogical that decision is, no matter how many pieces of evidence effectively ignored or not requested, no matter how incompetently handled, no matter how many lies they have believed from the solicitors in question, then SLCC will refuse to review or re-open the case even in light of substantial fresh evidence and tell you to go to some Court. If you persist in your complaints they might threaten you with some unreasonable behaviour policy they've drafted to give themselves a license to ignore you and fail to act in the public interest even more. If you want to complain about a legal professional on the Scottish Disciplinary Tribunal panel, which is the panel that would eventually consider a case SLCC might bring, they effectively tell you to go to SLCC. While at the same time these two organisations claim to be independent yet this is an example of interdependence since the SDT doesn't seem to make its own internal investigation into its panel members. SLCC cannot answer straightforward questions to the public such as is it a prima facie case of misconduct if a solicitor has been responsible for or fails to put an end to something found unlawful by a Court, as one example.
>I have read many of the reviews on here, i agree with them all as I've just went through exactly the same thing as many of you, I was warned about the outcome before I even contact the SLCC, does the words SLCC stand for, STUPID LAZY CORRUPT COCKROACHES that is my opinion of them.
I spent months and lots of energy and effort into getting my issues across to them but all I got back was, Not known and not admitted and totally without merit, I sent them proof of my issues and they still came back with all that rubbish, I now have a solicitor who is going to take this case to court, I have a lot of money coming soon and I WILL get the justice that i should have gotten in the first place, I feel sorry for all the people that went down the road with the SLCC and if anyone in the future is thinking of going down that road DON'T.
I was going to get about 300 thousand pounds for my compensation claim, my solicitor lied to me and he withheld crucial information from me but I won't let this go and I will take it all the way.
I appealed against the SLCC decision and I still didn't get anywhere, now I have to pay for the solicitors that the SLCC hired to act for them, I hope they are good singers.
Received an emailed response to my complaint against a solicitor who failed in her duty of giving me appropriate advice and failed to run my case under the correct legal test, they have informed me there is a time restriction on making a complaint. What a waste of public money, is there no organisations that fight for the victim, I wasn't aware you could complain about solicitors, but I have since found out you can but nothing happens.
Total waste of my time and my money . You do nothing to prevent misuse of law. The amount of complaints against one firm is unbelievable and yet still no action, this is a disgrace to law in this country the cook report would have a field day. So I have to file my own court proceedings, after 4 years I’m not leaving now ( probably picked the wrong one this time ) not just my case I will help many others in the process who have be refused JUSTICE
Utterly corrupt organisation which support the solicitors who fund them. They deliberately make the process as frustrating as possible for the complainer and continually try and reword complaints to help reject them. In one case they completely made up my complaint. The Awards are paltry despite the significant stress you have to endure getting your complaint through and may have suffered as a result of corrupt lawyer. Solicitors can get away with anything as a result, probably why mine laughed when I mentioned was taking my case to the SLCC.
They may even be worse than SRA. They have an even narrower remit than SRA it seems to me and make all kinds of excuses not to go after someone senior such as a General Counsel, who they don't seem to think have anything to do with anything. Not fit for purpose. Solicitors have nothing to fear here.
After almost 12 months, several emails , questions and answers Scottish legal complaints have refused to act upon my complaint against Aaen peach Solicitors.
After A.P were abusive, unprofessional and overcharged me, I took my complaint to SLCC, only to be asked to provide evidence. I did so to my best ability copying in around 20 emails. I did not record any phone calls but surely this should be a responsibility of the legal firm.
Anyway to cut a long story short, SLLC threw out my complaint in favour of what is allegedly the worst law firm in Scotland.
So in short, DO NOT USE SLCC , you will waste 12 months of your life and get no resolve
The SLCC is a Complete joke, they take years to investigate, but as they are funded by the very solicitors they are supposed to investigate, how can they ever be independent ? They are unaccountable to anyone, in my personal view they should be abolished and a truly independent ombudsman be created, as is the case in the rest of the UK.
The Scottish law society cannot help you with problems with your solicitor, unless the SLCC first decide to pass the case to them, talk about a closed shop? you are not even allowed to contact the Chairman of the SLCC.
When my complaint was upheld, and the award was made, pathetic is the only word, they agreed but said I would have to then take it to court for they to look at it again, and make a "better" award. Would any solicitor take the case on, to take the SLCC to court I am sure you can guess the answer to that.
