I waited a couple of months before sending this review as I really wanted to test the new heat pump installed by SOLUM GB.
I can now honestly without any doubt recommend SOLUM GB for heat pump installations. What I liked the most about this company is that their team (both on site and in the office) is made up of experts in the field who are passionate about what they do, and it shows in the quality of their work.
They take the time to understand their clients' needs and work closely with them to ensure that their expectations are not only met but exceeded.
Their communication is clear and concise, making the entire process smooth and stress-free.
The whole process from the initial enquiry through to quote, signing the contract, installation at my house and the handover commissioning of the system was done to the highest standard.

Solum GB installation of Air Source Heat Pumps
In 2018 Solum GB installed an Air Source Heat Pump as replacement for my (fully functioning) gas boiler in my 1920's house. They undertook calculations that showed me the installation costing £18000 would have paid for itself by 2025 and assured me that my house would be well heated.
Whilst during the last 5 years the pump has worked much of the time, I have had a lot of problems it.
When the weather is cold it does not heat my house adequately; it has not been able to heat the house beyond 15 degrees for several weeks this winter.
It has stopped working altogether from time to time due to 'flow' errors and I am left without any central heating until I can get an engineer to come which can take weeks and costs me £250-300 for each call out.
The pump is expensive to run even allowing for electricity price hikes. Whilst the company calculates that it is using the electricity predicted, the predictions were for a temperature of 20 degrees and the temperature has never been above 18 degrees
Initially I called the company back to sort the problems. Each time I was made to feel that it was not the pump but me that was at fault.
Eventually I asked a local company to take a look at the system. They advised that all the radiators should have been changed with the original installation and this is likely to be the cause of the stoppages. They also identified other problems
Trading Standards have also advised that I should have been given detailed heat loss calculations for each room before installation which I was not
I have since discovered that Air Source Heat Pump installations in houses of this age (not insulated to current standards and radiators rather than underfloor heating) are not advised.
I have asked the company to rectify the situation, but they are so far refusing to take responsibility.

I have finally had the ASHP removed and reverted to a gas boiler. After the post above it stopped again altogether and I was without heating from February 2003 onwards. Eventually in April Solum GB came to have a look and diagnosed a problem with the solenoids. They did agree to replace these under guarantee and the repair was completed in July 2023.
This winter the ASHP worked until it got cold when again it stopped suddenly without warning. I was without heat again for 2 months. The problem appeared to be a new one to do with the outside Units freezing over.
I am elderly and I cannot live without heating in the winter. So I have finally decided to cut my losses, have the ASHP removed and revert to gas boilers. This is a great disappointment and a great waste of money.
The more conversations I have had with experts and other users about this ASHP the more I am clear that Solum GBs design of the system, installation and commissioning were all likely to have been sub-standard. Problems can occur post installation, but the number of problems I have experienced means that the system was faulty. And whilst Solum GB came back to sort the initial problems and eventually fixed the faulty solenoids, they have failed to take responsibility for the fact that overall this pump is not fit for purpose and this means that this is not a company to be trusted.

Independent heat loss calculation carried out prior to installation has shown that the ASHP was designed appropriately, and the existing radiators were deemed sufficient, and any issues with flow would have manifested earlier if they were the root cause. Hitachi (unit manufacturer) had looked at our installation and confirmed compliance.
Since the replacement of the solenoid valves in August 2023, we haven't received any complaints from end user regarding insufficient heating of the house.
The solenoid valve failures were attributed to mechanical errors rather than installation faults. We replaced them under the manufacturer's warranty and waived labour charges as a goodwill gesture.
Prior to the solenoid replacement, from April 2018 to April 2021, no complaints were raised about the ASHP's inability to reach desired room temperatures. In fact, there was a previous correspondence in April 2021 indicating that the room temperature consistently exceeded desired setting.
End user had engaged with a third-party company, it appears that the interventions may have caused more harm than good. They have left the system running without necessary inhibitors, adjusted settings incorrectly, and potentially compromised the system's performance.
Regarding the recent freezing over of the pump, we were open to investigating the matter further. However, had no response from the end user.
