Not been here for a few years, tock a friend, very disappointed, Food was very bland and for the price would expect better, Shame as I used to go every week, won't be returning.

We went there tonight for a Valentine's Day dinner. Set menu was good. The food and service were AMAZING.

Excellent, it’s been a while since I have dined at The Trout Inn and I must say standards have not dropped, great food and service. Kelly who waited on us was superb, very attentive and went above and beyond with service.

From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed, it’s such a homely and family feel atmosphere.

Wow, this place is nothing like it was in the late 1990s. The decline is unmistakable. Almost everyone working there is under 30, and with the exception of one genuinely talented guy on the floor,the one with the long curly hair who looks like he belongs in a band, the staff is shockingly unprofessional. Sloppy, disengaged, and nowhere near the standard this venue once held.

The front-of-house experience was the worst of all. The man at the entrance was arrogant from the moment I walked in, insisting I had never made a booking, even after I told him I had called the night before specifically to reserve a table. He refused to give me the name of whoever took my booking, which only makes it more likely he was the one who mishandled it in the first place. Someone with that attitude should not be the first face a customer sees.

As for the food? Completely underwhelming. The menu feels like a cheaper, watered-down version of what used to be offered, nothing memorable, nothing worth returning for.

And to make matters worse, I left my earring on the table and called just 30 minutes later, only to be told nothing had been found. Impossible. It’s hard to trust a response like that given how carelessly everything else was handled.

I won’t be returning. It’s a real shame because the setting is still lovely, but the professionalism that once defined this place is gone. What it needs is a complete overhaul of staff, proper training, higher standards, and people who actually care. Unfortunately, it seems they can’t recreate what’s been lost. I will be telling others not to go either.

Reception was not staffed on arrival.

Lunch was mediocre with frozen Margherita Pizza, under cooked potatoes and tepid rhubarb crumble.

Not recommended.

Lovely setting by the river, herons and egrets. Fish jumping. Great for a summer's evening dinner.
Food was very good. Menu is getting a bit old now, but nice variety. Maybe a revamp would be nice. Wasn't aware of any specials

Fantastic lunch today at The Trout. Great food and atmosphere. Phoebe P was the best, most attentive, smiling superb waitress ever! She is a star! Keep her! She was brilliant today. I hope Lotte is doing well. Will see you soon. Richard

We have just had an amazing Sunday roast at The Trout. The food was lovely and the service was really good, especially from our waitress Steph. We will definitely be back

Visited and had a lovely meal. The only downside was the manager on duty was incredibly rude to one of the waitresses in front of us, making both her and us feel uncomfortable. It wasn’t a very nice way to speak to one of your staff, especially in front of customers, and put a dampener on an otherwise lovely lunch.

Great food, great service!
We enjoyed our Saturday lunch recently at the trout. Food was superb and the service was exceptional, especially from Daniel our waiter and Alice the manager.
We definitely recommend people coming here for a great experience.

I'm a regular visitor, but the standards have dropped significantly recently. I ordered the "Crab" and king prawn linguine and there was no crab at all. Lots of tomatoes and no sauce. My partner had the chicken,bacon and avocado Salad, it was very bland with a minute piece of avocado.
Very disappointing. I will use The Perch instead from now on.

Very poor quality of food. Front desk reception was poor but waitress was helpful and pleasant. Menu promised a lot and sounded great. Execution was poor for every dish. Substandard cooking, no seasoning. Dry bland tasteless.
Would avoid. You can do better elsewhere.

Booked a table for four of us for a catch-up with friends and the food was incredibly disappointing. Two of us are vegetarian and although there was a vegan menu it included the options that were already on the main menu so there weren't that many additional dishes. My partner had the vegan falafel and they were undercooked and tasted bland followed by the coconut and aubergine curry, the portion was very small, the sticky rice was almost solid and there wasn't enough sauce to mix it with to make it any more palatable. both dishes were sent back. They seemed to be out of stock of quite a few of the wines on their list and some of the dishes including a basic Olives starter. The plus note was that our server, Michael was great and tried to resolve things and we weren't charged for the vegan dishes but it still meant that one of us had very little to eat and came away hungry. Personally, I won't go back again and wouldn't recommend it.
