Back in April, I bought a kit for the model stash. It was the 1/72 Severn Class Lifeboat.
Just recently, when it came time to build the model, I excitedly opened the box and removed the first few pieces. It quickly became apparent that the quality of the molding and production is massively below the standards.
Pieces were badly warped, covered in flash and many sprues were 'short shot'. I reached out to Airfix to ask for help with their product,as the entire kit was faulty and unusable. Their response was the model store would need to accept the loss and either refund me if, or replace the kit, I still had the receipt.
Any stock the store still had (it didn't) would most likely be from the same batch, so a useless exercise. Also, after several months, the receipt was long gone.
So, after jumping through Airfix's hoops and providing evidence, the upshot is Airfix don't care that they sold my local model shop a defective product, and either the shop or myself has to take the hit with the cost.
I grew up learning to make models using Airfix, but it's safe to say I won't be buying anything from Airfix or their parent company Hornby moving forward. Sucks as I also model railways.
Avoid everyone, still with Tamiya, Meng, Eduard, Trumpeter, anyone but Airfix

Waited 10 months for the new model to be made, who's only difference was decals. They then sat with it "processing" for 4 days, emailed saying it was "being dispatched" for another 2 days. Then the lies started! Saturday morning i cancelled the order. They sent email the next morning saying it had been dispatched and was on its way, yet courier tracking showed, it hadn't been received from them till later in the day. They continued to ignore emails, until the following day when i said i wouldn't accept delivery. Eventually they relented and stopped the courier, but refusing to refund my money until the item is back with them. That is against The Consumer Protection Act. I'm not alone in this moronic attitude towards customers. I spoke to another model shop, and they too have had exactly the same issues with Airfix! No customer service, late/no delivery. My advise,,BUY TAMIYA AVOID THESE LIARS!

Awful attitude toward customer service enquiries. Old kit in range are well past their sell by date. Modern trend is no pilot in aircraft kits and flattened tyres whether you want them or not. Trench deep panel lines.
Many newer kits have known faults from launch, but they keep selling them.used to love the brand, but contacting them soon puts you off buying. (Date is a guess, was a while ago)

My previous review of an Airfix product (Westland Lynx) was not very good. At the same time the Lynx was gifted to me I also recieved Airfix 1/48 scale Junkers Stuka.
What a world of difference. Every part was present. Every part fit together like a glove. No filing, sanding or filler required.
I'd go as far to say it's the best model aircraft I have had, and built.
I hope all their other models are as excellent as this one.

First time in many years I have sat down to put a model kit together which had been given to me for my birthday.
The quality of the kit is shocking not only is it impossible to read some of the he part numbers the amount of flashing that has to be removed from the parts has taken the fun away, never used to be like this.

Recently ordered a couple of kits from the airfix website. The ordering process was simple, the kits were very well packed and arrived within the stated timeframe.
Upon checking one of the kits I found that most of the paints had dried out so contacted customer services. I received a response within a day and after confirming a few details with me they sent out a whole new set of paints.
Excellent customer service!

I bought a starter set for my 8 year old son.When the model was built and it came to paint it we discovered the paints had dried out and we're non existent.Over a week later since my complaint still no resolution from the company.Will not use again!!!!
Update******** Can you believe this company????? They reply to my review 9 MONTHS LATER.!!!!! Absolutely disgraceful!!!

Delivery times are extremely poor. Ordered pre 1pm and paid £7 for 'express' delivery. They didn't dispatch it the same day and instead dispatched it the next day. They also don't deliver at weekends. So despite paying £7 and ordering pre 1pm on a Thursday, I did not receive it until the following Tuesday.
It's just really really slow in this day and age. Sadly, I might as well have ordered off Amazon and would have had it all the next day. Companies like this have to step it up if they want to compete.
The other annoyance which is why I have docked another star is they have been out of so many paints required. How on earth can a company selling modelling kits with required paints, be out of 50% of the paints required?

Made a mistake with this company
Decided to buy a model spitfire brought it or thought I had but what a carry on
Now I have had tv and valuable items delivered to my address so idk appreciate care purchased on 4/1/24
Phoned them after a week promised before the next week end you guessed it .it arrived via dpd giving me the guys name as if it were a date got it by the named driver. Opened it and underneath a huge amount of bubble wrap low and behold 1 box in perfect condition with a mk5 spitfire yippee I can recreate what my late brother loved
Producing see I’m 63 64 this year anyhow everything is fine but the powder which is grey paint or was anyway it went in the bin I sent an email
And received a reply that a response would be received within seven days yet nothing but a response questioning
How I rated airfix and I do not.leave well alone a disgrace of a great name

Received an Airfix Starter set for Christmas, it was bought from a toy shop miles away by a relative. One of the paints was nearly dried up so i contacted Airfix to as if they could help out or if i needed to take back with the hassle of getting the receipt etc. I received a reply within 24 hours asking for my address and they would send me one. Within the week I had a new tin of paint through the post. Great customer service, a replacement sent without even asking if they would replace the paint.

Dismal after care service from Airfix. Received the re-run of the Great Western paddle steamer for Christmas. Fit of parts very poor and amount of flash simply shocking. A part was missing so raised a query with customer services. Received brusque, virtually offensive and grammatically poor response from Airfix customer care team and have since heard nothing about whether or not they intend to supply missing piece. Truly disappointing.
I have just completed the 1/35 scale 'Honey' tank. What a great little kit, it went together perfectly. I hope Airfix develope more world war two vehicles which I would be very interested in buying.
Contacted air fix recently to complain about the DE Haviland Mosquito 1/72 scale Model , where the parts are very small to put together . A lot of part not correctly put together does not fit as shown on the instructions and not as easy as shown on their website video. Airfix did not offer to replace the defected parts t on the spruce or replacement model
Getting replacement parts used to be a very easy. One just fill in the little forms that came with the kit and maybe two weeks later the bit(s) arrived no questions asked, great. This was the 1960 - 70's though and some kits where a bit dodgy on the fit ( hasn't stop them still selling them as 'Classics'!!!). However get a problem now you may just as well not bother asking for help or replacement parts. I don't think that they have any one at customer services at Airfix/Hornby hobbys.
Ordered my Lancaster B111 special with Dambusters commemorative coin on Thursday evening - kit arrived on Tuesday morning. Great service as always and an amazing product. Very happy👍
Har købt en Raptor F-22 men delene passede ikke sammen. Klagede til Gucca, som sendte en ny version, men her passede delene heller ikke sammen. Jeg fik mine bange anelser, da der på emballagen stod "made in India". Airfix må da kontrollere sine underleverandører, og jeg kan ikke bebrejde Gucca noget, som jo var grossisten på varen.
Airfix seem to be trading wholly on nostalgia.
They are still selling what they describe as ‘Classics’.
These models are really awful.
The fit is dreadful and there is also masses of flash.
They really are a complete waste of time and money.
Far better models are available from other manufacturers at comparable (or lower) prices.
Airfix really have got a nerve to sell such old tat.
Requested a part replacement for a malformed one, ONE PART, was asked lots of questions about where and when I bought the model, batch numbers. Supplied all except when and where I bought this, even though I told them that I bought it through Amazon. Guess what, I get another email saying "also asked where and when bought.." Not a happy bunny and if the part doesn't rock up that's me done with Airfix and I'll dump the models I've already bought for the future. Terrible, used to be a really good company..
