My car failed its MOT at Halfords for one single thing, who then tried to charge me nearly £1000— a quote so outrageous it immediately sent me looking for literally anyone else with a spanner and some honesty.

After seeing the most recommendations for them in Tameside and Stockport community Facebook groups, I took it to Autotech in Dukinfield

Autotech fixed the same MOT failure for almost a third of the price, using proper, top-range branded parts, and without the usual big-chain scare stories or pressure tactics.

Just clear explanations, professional work, and mechanics who actually seem to care.

They even squeezed me in on a Saturday, and handed the car back with an engine bay so clean it looked brand new — which tells you everything about the pride they take in their work.
They also had a quick look over everything under the bonnet for a quick health check to give me piece of mind.

Autotech is exactly why people should stop defaulting to national chains. Halfords tried to empty my wallet. Autotech fixed my car properly. Independent garages like this are where your car (and money) should be going.

I’ll be taking my car to them for anything from now on.

Ben at Auto Tech Diagnostics was absolutely brilliant. I genuinely thought my mum’s Hyundai was a write-off, but he brought it back to life and it’s running perfectly.

What really stood out was how easy he made the whole thing. He picked the car up, fixed it (clearly with real skill and care), and then dropped it back at my mum’s place. That level of service is rare, and it took a massive weight off our shoulders.

If you want someone reliable, capable, and genuinely helpful, Ben is the person to call.

What a find ! Tucked away down a side street in Claughton, Birkenhead I could not have found a more experienced and friendly vehicle Aircon specialist. My Aircon had stopped working and Adam fully checked and analysed the problem. The car (Honda) was re-gassed, and as there may be a very slight leak Adam has asked I bring it back in about 3 weeks to recheck to make sure all okay. A very reassuring experience all round.

Ben at Auto Tech is clearly highly experienced and has a great amount of practical knowledge. He is super helpful and upfront about best practices and costing, he has an outstanding eye for detail - absolutely meticulous.

I initially left a positive review at the request of the owner, but after my recent experience, I feel it’s important to provide an honest update.

I brought in my Audi RS6, which was previously running perfectly with a high-quality stage 2 remap from a reputable tuning company. I requested a full service using only genuine parts and fluids, but unfortunately, this wasn’t delivered.

The wrong spark plugs were initially fitted (standard Bosch), causing misfires. After returning the car, I had to specifically request the correct NGK plugs, which are recommended for this model by leading tuning specialists like MRC and RE Performance.

More concerning was the incorrect gearbox oil used — a budget brand that didn’t meet the proper ZF8 specification. This led to serious issues including gear slipping, jerking, and gearbox overheating. Despite returning the car multiple times, I was repeatedly told it was the clutch or remap. No gearbox flush was done, only a top-up with the wrong oil, and no proper adaptations were carried out.

After taking the car to a specialist, it was confirmed the problem was due to the gearbox oil. Thankfully no permanent damage was done, but I had to spend additional money to correct the mistakes.

I gave the garage multiple chances to rectify the issues and would have respected it more had they admitted it was beyond their expertise. Unfortunately, the work carried out showed a lack of understanding of performance vehicles and basic mechanical principles.

I wouldn’t recommend this garage for high-performance cars. This isn’t said out of malice, but to prevent others from going through a similar experience.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exceptional Service and Honest Work

I recently had my car serviced at this garage, where they replaced my brakes and discs, and I couldn't be more impressed with the experience.

From the moment I dropped off my vehicle, the service was professional and attentive. The mechanic Ben took the time to explain exactly what needed to be done and why, without trying to up-sell me on unnecessary services or parts - something I've unfortunately experienced elsewhere.

What truly stands out about this garage is their integrity. The mechanic was transparent about costs upfront, and the final bill matched the estimate exactly. They even showed me the worn brake components they had replaced, helping me understand why the work was necessary.

The quality of the workmanship is evident in how my car performs now. The braking is smooth and responsive, and there are no unusual noises or vibrations that were present before. It's clear they used quality parts and took no shortcuts.

The turnaround time was reasonable, and they kept me updated throughout the process. The garage was clean and well-organised, which I always take as a good sign of attention to detail.

If you're looking for honest, skilled mechanics who won't take advantage of you, I highly recommend this garage. Their combination of technical expertise and business integrity is rare to find. I'll definitely be returning for all my future automotive needs and recommending them to friends and family.

Hi. I took my vehicle to Ben after the engine light come on. This was also done as warranty work on a car i purchased from car quay which as also been brilliant in the after care. Ben did the work as soon as he could and did it very well. I've not only found someone reliable but also very honest and real about what's worth doing and when it needs doing. I've also found a mechanic who will now do all wprk on my car. Great wprk on my a-class and greatful for good service

I’ve been taking my car to Ben for a while now and I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad experience. Ben is always honest and upfront and always takes the time to explain the issues going on with the car. Whether it’s a standard service or something more complicated, he gets the job done right the first time. I was having my air conditioning serviced at StayKool and happened to mention the confusion around the need to replace cam belts on modern Skodas and it was suggested that I should talk to Ben, who just happened to be passing. What a pleasure it was to speak with someone who could give me straight answers. My Karoq was in need of a service and a cam belt and I was so impressed with Ben's honesty that I booked it in with him. I am so pleased that I did. The work was completed at a very reasonable price, the engine bay cleaned and I was even sent photos of the work in progress. I hope to move further south in the near future but will definitely travel back to Derby when my next service is due. I can honestly recommend Ben to anyone.

I met Ben probably 7 or 8 years ago when he was working at a local garage and we've stayed in touch since.
The first thing that struck me was how open and honest Ben is. I was new to the area and had been using the same local garage for a while, as I knew no better. I'd often felt like I was being ripped off and regularly left feeling disappointed. It came to light that this garage was employing underhand tactics, which Ben highlighted to me, recommending an alternative who I've used ever since for MOTs.
Ben subsequently left said garage and after briefly managing another garage, went on to set up on his own.
I now go nowhere else for servicing and repairs and have recommended Ben to several of my friends and family.
I've lost count over the years the number of times Ben has gone out of his way to help, often even coming out to my home to do work on my cars or collecting them and dropping them back off for me if I've been at work. Ben really does go above and beyond for his customers, I have always found him to be open, honest, reliable and someone who genuinely cares about providing a good service at a fair price - absolutely top bloke.

I’ve been to Auto-Tech Diagnostics a few times now, and they’ve been great every single time. Most recently, they did a gearbox service and adaptation on my Audi, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. The car feels so much better to drive now.

Had my brakes done at Auto Tech Diagnostics and I'm really impressed with the service. Ben looked after everything and made sure only quality parts were used – no cheap stuff as my previous drive tec ones that another garage fitted were squeeking ! You can tell they genuinely care about doing the job properly, and it shows in the results.

The car feels great now and the braking is spot on. Ben explained everything clearly and was super professional throughout. Great service, fair pricing, and real peace of mind knowing the job was done right this time round. Would definitely recommend!

A great Mechanic. Ben has looked after my MR2 & my Mazda for the past 5 years and I have always been happy with the service and the price.
I trust him and wouldn’t take my cars anywhere else, his unit also has the added bonus of a fab cafe on site.

I took my Audi Q3 for a service with Ben and the experience was excellent from start to finish. I have only owned the car for a few months and Ben advised and recommended when i should be looking at getting my gearbox service done, cambelt changes, haldex services etc. (Just so I could keep on top of them, and have them for my records).
When it was in for the service, he pointed out a fault on my car and recommended i get this sorted asap or it would lead to a major issue. He sent me photographic evidence as proof that the part needed changing. It was clear to see it needed replacing! I booked straight in with Ben and safe to say, my car has driven beautifully ever since.

It's nice to take a car to a garage and know that you can put your full trust in to him. His knowledge is excellent and the service he provides is honestly 10/10. I can't recommend him enough and I wouldn't want to take my car to anyone else!

Ben not only offers a service with a smile. But is also incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to (many) faults I’ve faced with my Range Rover. His work is top notch and he’s incredibly efficient at diagnosing a problem before fixing. Saving loads of time and labour compared to other garages I have used in the past.

I have been taking my car to ben for years now starting with my first car. There were multiple issues with it as it had been sat on the drive during lockdown, I took it to Ben he looked it over gave me a call and asked me to come down so I could see everything that was wrong with my car. He explained everything in detail and physically showed me the issues so I knew i wasn’t being ripped off. The work was then completed the same day. Since then Ben has been doing Services and Repairs on my vehicles ever since. I can’t recommend Ben enough! He always sends updates on my vehicle when it’s in his care. I feel very relaxed and comfortable when my car in his with Ben as being a female in the car garage industry most other places would try and have you on about ‘work’ that needs to be carried out. Ben is a genuine, honest and reliable person!

I have had great experiences dealing with Ben at Auto Tech Diagnostics. I’ve dealt with a number of mechanics over the years and never managed to find anyone who is all of the following; reliable, honest and genuinely very good at what they do and Ben is all of these things. I would strongly recommend Ben to anyone seeking routine servicing, or vehicle repairs.

Ben at Auto tec is incredibly experienced and his knowledge for diagnostics is worth gold, he's completely honest and doesn't try to sell you other parts that aren't needed and even records videos for you to see throughout the repairs or service- what other garage does this? My experiences are:

As an idiot after a long day I put screenwash in my ad blue- took off the tank with a mate and the injector snapped and had to replace it. Ben did all this and sorted it out very quickly and with ease.

A few months later it sounded like my turbo was going, someone I know who sells cars said it was the turbo too and took me to a garage they know, they said its the whole turbo and needs doing ASAP. I spoke to Ben and took it down and as soon as I pulled up he said no I can hear its the plate at the back, turned out the heat had warped a plate over time and turned out to be a relatively cheap fix. I also had it serviced at the time and he sent me videos of all the filters, the oil being drained and refilled - everything. Never had a garage do this in my life before and its good to see that what you're paying for it being done as many garages skip oil changes etc.

I highly recommend Ben at auto tec and as soon as you meet him you'll know why, you can fully trust him and his workmanship 100% he recently moved to his own unit now which is great to see and well deserved.

It’s nice to find a honest local mechanic. I would 100% recommend these guys all day everyday. I had a bit of a nightmare with my previous mechanic who did me an awful job on my Vw T5 camper. Ben set me on the right path with more than enough communication videos and pictures of the progress of the work he was carrying out for me. These will definitely be looking after my vehicles for me from now on. He even worked the weekend to get it ready in a small time frame so o could get to my holiday destination in it. Top class thanks a lot really appreciated.
