For 16 years, I HAD birchbox. I just canceled.

I have been a Birchbox customer for many YEARS...over a decade! I have moved, changed addresses, had babies, and stuck with you throughout your issues. Today, I received another box with 3 items that I received at LEAST 5 times each. At this point, you are hopeless. No one cares what I put on my preferences, and No one is keeping track of what has been sent to your customers. Pathetic. I don't want any more of the same crap. I'm here to discover NEW beauty products...shame on you for telling us that you promote new products when I have been getting the same JUARA crap every month for years. Birchbox gives you maybe one new item and then the other 4 are filler that they have too many samples of. They save money and pretend like you are getting such fun new products. It's a scam now! Do not buy anything from Birchbox. Save your money and get Sephora samples on a regular purchase.

where do i even start

where do i even start. im still chasing items from october and the last 3 boxes i had to chase to get them in the first place. boxes always sent well into the next month when they should have arrived earlier. items received that you received last month already. support telling you they will send replacements which never arrive. support are supposed to respond within 24 hours but its been 4 days. whole subscription was an absolute shambles.

Horrendous

Horrendous. Restarted my subscription from a few years ago and well, I wished I hadn't bothered. First box, item missing. Customer service wanted proof via photo which tbh felt like a snub already but I did this. Promised delivery of item and two months later no item has ever arrived, even after several chases. Constantly told it will be dispatched shortly.
Second box, payment taken beginning of July, only dispatched after many chases on 1st August! Some July box! What a joke. This has turned up today, again with an item missing. This means the company is always a payment in hand for a box not yet issued and is not delivering all items as promised. My subscription is over. All customer service do it repeat how your items are due to be despatched whilst speaking to you in a provocative fashion. I am not reaching out I am telling you I am unhappy and you have made a mistake so try apologising and fixing the error. If you can't give me a refund.

Customer Service Non Existent

I have a monthly subscription to Birchbox. Evri have been waiting on my last box for over a week. I contacted Birchbox to explain there has been no movement/update. I felt Birchbox response was dismissive advising there should be an update soon. The customer service is non existent, there is no empathy or willingness to rectify issues. As a direct result I have now cancelled my subscription.

Are Birchbox still in business? I’ve messaged them three times as I have still not received my March box.

I have sent three messages to the online chat function and have had no reply and I have emailed twice but no reply to anything

Just wanted to update that Birchbox have been in touch and have sent the missing box out and apologised for the delay x

Waste of money

The monthly boxes are a true waste of money. There is a short window to “pick” your favorite items, every time I’ve tried, most of the better looking items were sold out so they make your box with the leftover junk. Most items are sample size items which are tiny and worthless and you could get for free. I absolutely regret signing up for the 3 month subscription- complete complete waste of money!! I didn’t get even one item that was worth anything- again, most are no-name brands and sample sizes that are useless type junk, that I just put in the garbage. Also, once you sign up, you cannot cancel with a refund- which is also complete BS.

Just to clarify, each Beauty Box includes a mix of sample-sized, travel-sized, and even full-sized products. Our goal is to make it easy for you to try out new makeup trends, discover exciting brands, and find your next favorite product. Often times just one item in the box exceeds the value of the entire box! We also offer customization so you can select products and sizes based on your preferences.

For renewing members, customization is available from the 1st to the 5th of each month, providing five full days to customize, with email reminders sent to make sure you don’t miss it.

While we do not see any cancellation or refund request from you, as you did purchase your subscription with a gift card, the gift card itself would not be refundable, but again, we would love to see what we can do to best assist!

I have been receiving Birchbox for the…

I have been receiving Birchbox for the past 4 years. I love the products and being able to tailor each box to my wants and needs. They work with so many great brands. Last month I received a beautiful eyeshadow palet and a 30 day sample of the fragrance Sexual Noir. So many amazing skin car products, brushes and tools. I rate them 10 out of 10

Literally don’t think they could try…

Literally don’t think they could try and make the experience any more awful if they tried. From not shipping the full orders in the first place to then gaslighting the customer saying the order was fulfilled thank god the delivery company took photos when delivered otherwise they’d have just fobbed me off.

Response is pathetic and laughable AVOID at all costs you’ll just waste weeks of your time. I sent multiple photos of proof and still wasn’t resolved for weeks and you are acting like I did the chargeback and still got a product? No you recharged me last week hahaha I’d rather have just kept my money box wasn’t even worth it.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we’re truly sorry to hear about the issue with your shipment. To clarify, it looks as though you had purchased two subscriptions in December with a promotional code which provided a free Advent Calendar Box. A couple weeks after one of the shipments was delivered, we were notified that the December Beauty Box seemed to be missing, with only the Advent Calendar arriving in that shipment. We were happy to arrange a replacement, but we needed a few additional details to confirm which shipment was missing the item and requested a photo of the packing slip for internal reporting. We're sorry to hear that at any time you thought a replacement may not ship.

Due to the timing of the initial communication, the replacement request was handled the following Monday. However, we also noticed a chargeback had been initiated in the meantime. While typically we don’t arrange replacements after a chargeback, we decided to proceed and send the replacement December Beauty Box as a courtesy, even though the payment had been reversed.

We’re glad to see the replacement arrived, but we completely understand how frustrating it can be to experience any shipping issue, especially around the holidays. We take every measure to ensure such issues are rare, and we’ve already reported this incident to our head of fulfillment for review. We truly value your feedback

Birchbox is NOT the company they used to be

I give Birchbox 2 stars because I still like and/or use about 65-75% of the products they send, so I'm mostly "satisfied." However, I have recently received in my December box 2 samples that were unusable. One was the Jura body cream. It had a giant hole at the top and completely dried up the product. The other product was a lip pencil from Laritzy. Not only was the color NOT for my skin tone or to my liking, the minute I opened it up, the tip of the pencil fell out. I tried sharpening it, only to find the next bit of pencil fell out. It was an old dried up sample. It's not even available for purchase, so what is the point of providing a sample in my box, unless it's to give away old expiring samples that nobody wants. Which brings me to my next point, there is NO WAY to purchase anything on the website. How is this even a business? Suppose I like or even love a product I sample. I have no way of purchasing it through the Birchbox website. I have to purchase full size products through Birchbox's competitors, like Amazon and Sephora. On top of all of this, I don't even know how to communicate with Birchbox re: the fact that I got damaged and expired samples in my box. There's no "contact us" tab anywhere on the website. Seems like after they were bought out, the new owners have ZERO desire to run a beauty e-commerce brand and just want to unload a ton of inventory on people who are willing to still pay $16/month for it.

Poor customer service

I received my 1st subscription box and the quality of the products were terrible (looked old). Therefore, I cancelled my membership. Well, I thought I did. Apparently, they will process your order on the 1st of every month so even though I got a confirmation of cancellation, they placed ONE MORE ORDER! And I didn't know until it shipped and they don't accept returns. Their chat person (Jason) kept giving me a note about how they respect my feedback, but were actually unwilling to do anything about it. I told them I would return the box unopened at my expense - nada. Then I told them to delete my account, credit card number, everything. I wanted an email confirmation and they said I would get it in 5-10 days. Pretty poor customer service overall.

Regarding cancellations, to help clarify, as noted at checkout and in the account, when you cancel a membership plan, it will prevent any future subscription renewals from processing. However, it does not trigger a refund for a box that has already been paid for and processed. Many of our customers choose to cancel after a recent purchase to avoid further renewals while still receiving the box they’ve already paid for. If a customer forgets to cancel before the renewal date, we’ll always be happy to look into making an exception for a retroactive refund, as long as the monthly beauty box hasn’t entered the fulfillment process yet. To request this, we ask the customer to please reach out to our support team or chat with us right away, and we’ll do our best to help!

Unable to customize/poor communication

I canceled my subscription but still have several boxes to receive because I prepaid for a year. Birchbox has apparently written me off because I no longer receive any emails and now I'm having difficulty with Birchbox allowing me to customize my remaining orders. As of today, Birchbox is not letting me customize my November beauty box. I'm still waiting for their customer service to reply to my emails. I'm unlikely to resubscribe - there are better subscriptions out there.
11/14/24 I'm updating my review based upon Birchbox's response. I still do not receive any emails from Birchbox and haven't in two months or so. I did not receive emails on either 11/5/24 or 11/10/24. I told customer service that I'm not receiving emails anymore. I was told that matter was going to be looked into but I still don't receive the emails. The 11/2/24 contact from Birchbox did not solve the problem but I did finally hear back from Birchbox on 11/3/24 with a link to customize. Now we'll see if I get what I'm supposed to get.

To provide a bit more context, to make things easier and more streamlined, we fully integrated customization into our website this month. As this was the first month for this new feature, we did experience a small delay in opening the customization window on the 1st. Instead, customization opened on November 4th and remained open through November 10th, giving everyone plenty of time to make their selections. Once customization opened, you were emailed a notice on November 5th, with a final reminder email sent on November 10th.

We’re happy to confirm that the customization feature is now running smoothly, and moving forward, the customization window will be open from the 1st to the 5th of each month. As always, we’ll be sure to keep you informed about your customization window via email. The delay in opening on the 1st is why you received your customization email a few days later than usual this month.

Customer service A+, the rest is an F

Customer service is stellar, everything else has pretty much been a disappointment. It was nearly impossible to find anything on the website that was in stock or actually available, the shipping is hard to track and takes ages, and when I finally got my order one of the two items wasn't what I had ordered. Customer service was very prompt and said they'd send me the correct product, only to find out later that they don't actually have the product I ordered at all and never did. Even customer service wasn't aware of that. I was ready to discontinue my several year membership after months of a disappointing subscription and this experience didn't change my mind.
