Had $5,000 in gift card rewards across…
I had over $5,000 in gift card rewards pending across roughly 250 purchases, scheduled to pay out over the next 90 days. After using Capital One Shopping for about 18 months with minimal issues, my account was suddenly terminated for alleged “policy violations” that were never explained and never committed.
There was no warning, no meaningful appeal, and no evidence provided—just an account shutdown and forfeiture of earned rewards.
It’s important to understand how this works: they are not “giving” you anything. The cashback comes from the affiliate commission generated by your purchase. When they terminate your account, they still collect that commission—you just never see your share.
The marketing looks great, but the reality is simple:
40% cashback that never gets paid is effectively 0%.
Use this service at your own risk. If you build up meaningful rewards, be aware they can be taken away instantly with no recourse. Don’t fall for the shiny percentages without understanding the downside.
Scam Bonus Deals
I activated a cash back Target deal online on Capital One Shopping, where I was supposed to receive $25 back for spending over $50. My receipt shows that I spent $51.66 but Target or Capital One reduced the amount to $49.05 in the portal to make me ineligible for the promotion. I'm surprised how corporations scam consumers in plain sight and get away with it.
I had a horrible experience with them
I had a horrible experience with them, I’ve been a c1 shopping for over a year, until they advertised a 70% back in Serta mattresses. Which I purchased it because of that tx I spent 2000 in the mattress so I was expecting 1400 back. I open a case because the rewards never showed up. So after 30 days the told me the purchase was inelegible but they have me 250 as an exception lol. I complained because I didn’t use any promo code or anything to make it ineligible, sadly support didn’t care. I replied I was going to report them to the bbb for fraud and after 7 days the wipe out all my account ($0) in everything and the recalls all emails back and forth from the server to remove all proof . They are shady af, wish I had all emails screenshots so I could sue.
Agree with others
Agree with others. Had 45% cashback from StubHub that disappeared. Don’t use.
Rewards scam!
Before Christmas, I received an email with a 40% rewards at Whisker (litter robot). Because of this I made the splurge (almost $800) and have been given the run around. First told to wait beyond 30 days. Then told to send merchant receipt which I did multiple times. I also sent screen shots showing “40% rewards activated”, they had my shopping trip. There is no phone number to call, only email. It takes an entire day to fet an e-mail response. After weeks of going back and forth, they tell me today they can no longer help me and closing my query. 100% SCAM!
Capital One Shopping is a scam
Capital One Shopping is a scam. They consistently over promise on rewards and underdeliver. When you reach out to their customer service they will tell you that the rewards only apply through specific links and that yours was not activated. The customer service also seems very AI/robotic and can’t seem to think for themselves. I’m not confident that I’m emailing a real person. You’re better off not selling your data to them. Use Honey or literally any other shopping service that actually has their technology and customer service down.
Absolutely terrible
Absolutely terrible. Four months later and no resolution, and I have a C.O. confirmation number and a receipt from the selected vendor. I will never use again.
Zero Star!!!
Cash back is not being tracked and had to reach out to their customer service multiple times. If your cash back is not tracked, you have to wait 30 days before you can circle back to C1. What's more even ridiculous is that they require you to link you bank account as an additional verification to redeem for e-gift card!!! There are many ways to verify account identify, I am not going to provide my banking information to C1 for this...
Jewel, Customer Service Rep, is Terrible.
They offer a sign-up bonus. I did what was required to receive it. When the bonus never arrived, I sent an email asking what was missing. The response email listed the qualifications. I had met them all. An agent named Jewel kept sending the same form email when I asked what the issue was a second time. When I asked a third time, I was told they could no longer help. This seems kind of scammy to me. Personally, I would avoid the site.
I use capital one shopping quite a bit
I use capital one shopping quite a bit. While it does find better prices you have to watch if it is the same product. When they claim you will get rewards, I have been successful about 30% of the time actualy getting them and there is no confirmation you will get them at checkout most of the time.
Heads up to anyone using Capital One…
Heads up to anyone using Capital One Shopping.
After resetting my password while setting up a new computer, my entire rewards balance was wiped to $0. Support now claims there is “no record” of my prior rewards, despite signup and rewards emails on the same account.
If a password reset can erase rewards history with no recovery or audit trail, that’s a serious problem. At minimum, users should be warned before resetting credentials.
Posting so others don’t get blindsided.
Fraudulent and Deceptive Business - You Won't Get Your Cash Back!
Like so many other posters - Capital One Shopping offers incentives of cash back with huge amounts - and then fails to ever pay them. I did a Google search for storage totes and Capital One Shopping presented exactly what I was wanting to buy at Office Depot - with 38% off. I clicked the activate offer link and was informed the offer was active. I check Capital One and they show a unique code for the clicked link. I wait nearly 2 weeks and nothing is pending. I contact Capital One and receive canned replies that offer no help. How a bank can actively scam consumers and not be fined or investigated is beyond my understanding or belief!
Referral rewards denied without clear explanation
I’m sharing this to help other users set realistic expectations.
I carefully followed all requirements for both a referral bonus and a desktop extension bonus. My friend also completed all steps correctly. Despite this, the referral reward was denied, and support could not explain which specific requirement was not met — only generic reasons from the Terms of Service.
Support was polite, and I did receive a small courtesy credit. Walmart-related rewards were resolved, which I appreciate. However, referral bonuses appear to be unreliable and not guaranteed, even when all steps are followed.
I recommend using Capital One Shopping for standard shopping rewards only, not referrals.
Customer service refuses to answer basic question
I've actually had a lot of good success with this cash back app, though it is important to note that you can't get actual cash back. You get cash that has to be used on gift cards, and the gift card options are limited. All of that, I'm OK with. However, I'm having a problem with an order that is showing up as ineligible for cash back when it should be eligible given that the only exclusion listed was gift cards, and I bought merchandise.
The biggest problem I'm having here is customer service. I contacted them to try and resolve the ineligibility issue, but they state that they will not look at the order until after the posted holiday return policy is complete. The issue with this is that the retailer in question, Nuts.com, does not accept returns. There is no posted holiday return policy. How can I wait until after the posted holiday return policy is complete if no such policy exists? And when I tell them this and ask them to tell me when I should contact them again to have them look at the problem, they won't tell me. They literally said, "We've reached a point where our customer service team can't proceed further. We are unable to move forward with your original request.
If you believe your order qualifies for Shopping Rewards but have not received them after the posted holiday return policy is complete, please reach back out to us and we’ll be happy to take another look.
Thank you for your understanding."
Well, I do believe that my order qualifies for shopping rewards, and I have not received them after this non-existent date has passed, so I'm reaching out.
This is ridiculously frustrating. Just tell me how long you want me to wait before reaching out.
Just like everyone else
Just like everyone else. Totally scammed even with screenshots for proof. Disgusting
These guys make Capital One look absolutely terrible
Like all of the other reviews here, I am beginning to feel like this company is a scam and bait and switch operation. They advertise some incredible "reward" (NOT cashback fyi) offers that are really hard to pass up which 100% influenced my decision to make a large purchase on a website, Vineyard Vines, in this specific case. It advertised 70% off and yeah that seems almost scam-worthy high, but a supposedly legitimate bank that I actually once worked for years ago at their headquarters in McLean, Virginia, was backing the offer, so what could go wrong?! Turns out, much can go wrong when that bank is Capital One. Clearly they are not overseeing this amateur operation and are completely asleep at the wheel letting this "wikibuy" "fintech" company scam their customers, and former Capital One employee in my case. I am waiting for hundreds of dollars in"rewards" from my Vineyard Vines purchase and this guy or girl "Cris P." (seriously? is that a joke or something?) is giving me unhelpful, misleading, robotic response after unhelpful, misleading, robotic response. While some of my much smaller "rewards" get processed within the week or even the same day, this one at Vineyard Vines, which I followed all their ridiculous and vague rules to complete, was to take 45 days to complete as dictated by "Cris P." while telling me to go read the FAQ. So I follow up again and ask for confirmation of my purchase as I have none in my account and otherwise some recognition of my qualifying transaction and subsequent expected rewards earned, and Crispy, I mean Cris P. (your customers are NOT stupid, and we do expect you to take customer service SERIOUSLY if you are attempting to build a legitimate brand), gives me the same unhelpful response aside from actually saying my October purchase is now apparently subject to the holiday return period so I must wait until January 10th 2026 to be able to even reach out again to get the status of my "reward." Let's say I patiently and obediently wait for another month, about 75 days in total, to try to find answers about my missing ~$300 in cashback, do you think they are going to continue scamming me or do the right thing and fulfill their advertised offer? I'm with you, I am pretty sure this is yet another delay tactic to stiff customers out of their money, and I'm not going to shut up and wait ANOTHER month to even have a chance at resolving this issue. This website seemed great at first but is, right in front of my eyes and with my wallet attesting to this statement, turning into a major scam that needs to be investigated immediately by the relevant attorney generals office, perhaps of Virginia or California. You cannot make financial promises to customers and then back out after they spent tons of money with expectation that they would be compensated a specific and advertised amount just because you don't want to pay up. This is a serious scam and I will continue to seek resolution not just for myself but also for the many others on here who shockingly had the same extremely unpleasant, embarrassing, distasteful, and costly experience.
The worst
The worst. Maybe 1% of the time does it find a coupon that actually works for you. Just a waste of time waiting for it to go through codes that obviously will not work...for example SPRING30 but it's winter or FEB15 but it's December. Just watch the coupons roll through for a minute and never get one that works.
They call customer LIAR
I wish I can give -ve . They lie on everything and at end when you give all the required evidences. They tell you liar. I will do my business somewhere but never here !

capital one shopping browser extension $ bonus offer : don't waste your time
I completed all of the criteria required, AND THEIR ARE A LOT OF CRITERIA, to receive a $40 bonus for installing their Capital One browser extension. I did not receive any notification or provided any evidence or assurance that my completed process was successful. Upon completing the first eligible, required purchase within the specified time frame, I accessed my account "shopping trips" and all other links, but it shows no evidence of any activity or acknowledgement. Upon emailing their 'support team' requesting a phone call to discuss the situation, I only received completely inefficient, and ineffective artificial intelligence-like replies and told that phone support is not available. In addition to the above poor experience, I also activated a 4% cashback E-bay offer, and I was only awarded 1%.
Capital One shopping and the browser extension promotion is a loser. I suggest don't waste your time on it.
I've reached out twice to have an issue…
I've reached out twice to have an issue resolved. They pass me off to someone else and nothing gets resolved. Capital one shopping is a scam.
