I feel completely misled by Carter Online. The shoes I ordered were heavily advertised as orthopedic, life‑changing, and exceptionally comfortable. What I received was the exact opposite.
After waiting about two weeks for delivery, I opened the box and was shocked. The shoes were of shockingly poor quality—easily the worst footwear I’ve ever purchased online. The uppers felt like stiff cardboard, there were no insoles at all, and the construction was flimsy. The zipper material was already coming unglued straight out of the box, and the soles were made of hard plastic, creating a serious slipping and safety hazard. These shoes are not wearable, let alone “orthopedic.”
Customer service was just as bad as the product. When I contacted Carter Online to request a refund, they refused to stand behind what they sold. I was offered either:

A replacement pair only if I paid extra shipping, or
A $20 refund to keep shoes that are essentially garbage.

This company had no hesitation charging my credit card but suddenly became uncooperative when I asked for a proper refund. At this point, I consider the service interrupted, as the business is not responding meaningfully to my refund request.
To make matters worse, despite marketing that suggests otherwise, the products are not made in Canada—they are shipped from China.
This experience feels deceptive from start to finish: misleading advertising, unusable products, and refusal to provide a fair refund. I strongly advise anyone considering Carter Online to avoid them entirely and save yourself the frustration, wasted money, and time.

My shipment was so late that I thought I got scammed. When I received it I was greeted with such a strong odour from the shoes that were in a plastic bag wrapped in another one, that I ended up in the hospital with a severe vertigo. I am still not well the second day.
I like the design and they seem to fit but I am afraid to get near them.

I suspect that Janis Beler’s review is manufactured. I have JUST NOW been sending emails back and forth with this company to explain that their online order platform generated an order for the generic shoe that comes up when you first click on the site (beige size 8) and didn’t order my choice of colour and size. Then informed me that I would have to wait until I received it to send it back and correct the mistake (THEIR MISTAKE). I thought “not great, but small inconvenience I can live with”. What I didn’t know was that they were going to charge me for the return of the order. I also was under the impression that this was a Canadian company (the name is deliberately deceptive) so a return that I needed to pay for would be reasonable. Not so. Do not buy from this company. The shoes had a hard plastic sole and smelled like old tires as well as being in the wrong size and they do not offer any customer service. Funny how Janice had the same problem as me and was served so speedily and beautifully… after I had warned the merchant that I was going to post a bad review.

I ordered two pair of shoes online, one was the wrong size. This was completely my own fault, and I quickly recognized my mistake. As soon as I got an email confirming my order, I replied and explained my situation. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a response a short time later assuring me that they received my message and would be sending the correct sizes for me.

Honestly, I expected that I would be out of luck. It is usually difficult to impossible to find somebody to talk to when ordering online, especially when the concern needs to be addressed quickly.

DO NOT BUY. Wrong sizing, almost 2 sizes too big. No sizing on shoe anywhere. Asking for refund, yes willing to refund $20 they keep the $80. And I would need to ship to China. Not happening.

If i could give it a 10 negative i would. Very difficult to get a refund at all. The products are unbelievable garbage!!!! Do not buy from them, the shoes are probably worth 1 dollar. not even what garbage, and now they don't want to refund

My experience with this company is identical to other reviewers'. Shoes were the wrong size and made of inferior materials. I am now in the horrible process of trying to return them for a full refund.

The shoes I ordered, Stephanie Sneakers, were described as orthopedic, life changing, so comfortable, regular price# $249.95 for $99.95 with free shipping anywhere in Canada with easy returns. The shoes arrived in about two weeks and I opened the box with great anticipation only to be aghast at what lay inside.
To say the shoes were of sub standard quality is an understatement . The uppers were like cardboard; there were no insoles. The “size 8’s felt more like 6’s.
The material around the zippers had already come unglued, the bottom soles were hard plastic creating huge risk of falling. When I emailed Carter Online to request a refund, the most they would offer is $20 on a garbage product they were lightening quick to charge my Visa with $100. If I wanted a replacement pair I would have to pay $29.95 in shipping - definitely not the Customer experience promised. I would strongly advise anyone looking at the Carter On Line ads to hit delete. Also, their merchandise comes from China not Canada.

I should have read the reviews before placing my order!! Live and learn!! Shoes look like the ones ordered but the quality is extremely poor. These are not made of leather as stated in website. Sandals ordered are flimsy and stitching is very poor. No markings on inside to indicate sizing or material used. Orthopedic shoes have no insoles!! Soles are lightweight plastic. Sizing is way off…. Big and sloppy! These ship from China …. Not Canada!! Stay clear of this site. Wish I had!!

Terrible, not as advertised, size is too small, cheaply made, no insole. Will return if I pay the shipping. I’m sure that they came from China as when trying to track it showed them on a plane for several days. When I refused and don’t want another pair, I was advised I could be reimbursed $20.00.

The women's shoes are advertised as 'orthodic'. They are very low quality, with no insoles, hard plastic soles. Very cheap and definitely not orthodic. The buyer is responsible to pay for shipping back to China - not worth paying money to return. I will never buy from Carter Toronto again.

Ordered a pair of shoes thinking that this was a Canadian company. Came 2+ weeks later. Cheap quality and terrible smell. Nothing like the picture. Never buy from this company.

This is a total scam. We ordered a cashmere sweater for over $100 and received the most cheaply made polyester jersey worth possibly $5

Terrible quality and they refused to refund my money, they were only willing to exchange one item purchased or refund 20% of what I had paid

Misleading website in regards to quality of material. Much cheaper materials than in picture and sizing is very small. I ordered a ladies size 9 boot which fit my foot fine but couldn’t zip up past my ankle it was about 4 inches too small to go around leg.

Absolutely junk. Fake product, fake advertising. Do not order from this company. It is NOT Canadian. Now I’m stuck with a crappy product I paid $100 for! Infuriating.

This is a scam. No product arrived. No credit was processed. I had to get the bank involved. Avoid at all costs. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING.
