I would strongly advise anyone considering renting at the Chapel Street building in Luton to think carefully — their building managers are extremely unprofessional

What should have been a straightforward shared living arrangement turned into months of hostility, intimidation and deeply unprofessional behaviour. This was not a simple personality clash. It was a sustained pattern of conduct that raises serious concerns about misuse of authority and discriminatory behaviour.

Repeated remarks were made about “smelly food” and “strong spices” — comments that are clearly culturally loaded and inappropriate in any shared household. No tenant should be mocked or shamed for their food or background. There were also persistent comments about male visitors, framed in a judgemental way rather than as legitimate building concerns. Tenants are entitled to have guests within their tenancy agreement, and treating that as a personal grievance is unacceptable.

More troubling was the clear conflict between her role as building manager and as a co-tenant. Attempts were made to impose arbitrary “cooking slots” in a communal kitchen, as though it were private property. At the same time, the building’s smoking ban appeared to be ignored within her own room. Rules seemed selective.

There were also incidents of muttered insults, raised voices and general hostility when shared spaces were used. CCTV and staff presence were reportedly used in ways that felt more like surveillance than management.

When the building manager is the source of the problem, tenants are left with no safe or impartial route to raise concerns. That imbalance of power makes an already difficult situation far worse.

Tenants deserve professionalism, respect and fairness. Based on this experience, those standards were not met.

Tansy Tomlinson has been amazing. She is very prompt with her responses to my emails and incredibly supportive. She has made communication smooth and stress-free.

I am very satisfied with Opto Village. The project was completed right on time, and I am very happy with the company that assisted me throughout the process.
