Going as a foot passenger is not for the elderly or infirm. There are lots of steps, lots of walking involved. Getting on & off buses not easy with luggage. Border force checks in Calais a nightmare.... Toon meer

Inaccurate correspondence and instructions.
The confirmation email received specifically instructed us to check in at least one hour prior to departure. On return we arrived at the queue for check in 1.5 hours prior to departure and got to our turn with more than 1 hour to go however the man in the booth informed us our loading gate was already closed. According to this man they close the gate an hour and half before departure & P&O correspondence tells you this detail but since we booked via Compare Ferries we did not get this information we were told 1 hour. The failure to pass on this accurate detail ensured we missed the ferry and turned an already hour and a half wait into 3 and a half hours, with a toddler and a baby stuck in the car is beyond frustrating. Simple information from P&O failed to get through compare ferries.
Aside from this point I made a date amendment before the travel dates which i was told would cost £30 over the phone which I paid there and then, I later received a voicemail saying they had made a mistake and actually it should have been a £50 fee so I owe them £20. Again when you think it’s sorted is just frustrating and pretty unprofessional.

Book directly with the company you intend using
I made a mistake on the date I was meant to travel then I spoke to someone they said that they would give me a refund because we didn't travel on that date in the meantime I phoned p and o myself and booked the right crossing then yous phoned me back I told you what I did you told me that you would speck to your manager and call me back and you did call me back and said there was nothing else you could do for me
