It was so easy to understand and to follow instructions

I have been a Co-op home insurance customer for 3 years and received a renewal offer of £465.32 for my policy renewing on 3 September 2026.

Unfortunately, the renewal email went into my junk folder and I missed the payment deadline. I accept that the policy therefore lapsed, and I take responsibility for not making the payment in time.

However, when I contacted Co-op, I was told they could no longer honour the £465.32 renewal price because the policy was now being treated as a new policy. I was quoted £601.99, and when I went ahead with the insurance because I did not want to remain uninsured, the price had changed to £602.11.

I also asked whether the new policy could be backdated to 3 September so that there would be no gap in my insurance, but I was told this was not possible.

I explained that the renewal email had gone into my junk folder and have now changed my email settings so this won't happen again. I have also asked Co-op for a text reminder for future renewals.

What I find particularly disappointing is that I had already been given a renewal price of £465.32, and the price had remained the same throughout the renewal period. I was then faced with paying around £137 more after the policy lapsed.

I have paid the new premium because I need the insurance, but I have now made a formal complaint and requested a transcript of today's phone conversation.

I hope Co-op will review the circumstances and reconsider both the price difference and the gap in cover.

Straight forward with a fairly quoted rate. Covers my medical conditions which do not have any day to day impact without rejection of big premium uplift.

Good price but not that easy to negotiate site

My elderly mother, 86, had co op car insurance last year. It was around £390 which I thought was high considering, her car is locked in garage and she only uses it for shopping a few days a week, no more than a mile or two away. The following year she gets a quote from them of £588.89 So I help her out by finding Saga insurance for £324.00 a big saving. Bearing in mind she doesn’t use a computer, so I printed her Saga policy off for her. She then paid a water board refund cheque into the wrong bank account so I helped by transferring it back to one she uses for bill paying. It was then I noticed the co op had taken £588.89 out of her account and she now had two insurances policies on her small Toyota Aygo. I tried to access her co op account and got locked out. I then accessed an email I set up for her because she can’t do it herself. I find the new policy and there is a link. I gain access only to find they had put her on Auto Renewal. Strange how her insurance doubled the following year. I find these practises of auto renewal being implemented, very suspect and annoying. For unsuspecting elderly people it is a nightmare. Auto renewal should be off as standard and only on if you opt in. I dare bet they all do this. I cancelled the insurance but they charged her for the pleasure. She’s now out of pocket thanks to the shady practises of Auto Renewal. Doubling the money because it’s on Auto Renewal is shameful. We will not be using them ever again. Just make sure your Auto Renewal is not opted in if you go with them or you may get a shock the following year. They charge you £35 pound to cancel, and charge you for whatever days you didn’t notice you had their insurance. Ours was nearly £50 in fees. Thank God she put a cheque in the wrong bank account otherwise we would not have known they’d taken her money. To say I was livid was an understatement. I was mad enough to write this review just to warn others.

Apart from the initial automated voice section the experience was ok. Hate the automated voice section as it didn't always understand my response.
