I was charged $36 twice. Do not trust this company.

I understand the complaints of some about the charge - I frankly don't think it's a lot and I read what it clearly told me. BUT...it does tend to have this information in very fine print, on purpose. (Part of the problem is also the name of the service "Do NOT Pay" does imply "free".)

I'm okay with the service for the most part, but many of the features either don't work or they're buggy as all get-out.

Here's what worked.

✅Warranty service. This was awesome - you give it a name, it figures out who the company is. I used it for a pair of clippers that broke and got an email with instructions on where to send it for warranty service. I don't do warranty service frequently, but it's nice not to have to go digging for paperwork.

Here's what didn't work.

⛔ The Virtual Card for trials. Failed multiple times and the tool says it's trying to fix, but it never does. I've yet to see it work. (Having worked in financial, I SUSPECT what's happening is that the card is being reused among multiple customers and it's being flagged/blocked upstream. They gave me three different ones, none worked.)

⛔Spam Collector. While it's easy to send over to it, I don't see it actually doing anything. I tested with four different email accounts, one of which gets literally hundreds of spam emails every day, all the same kind/subject/etc. I don't see any decrease in this number whatsoever. The other boxes didn't really get significant amounts to begin with, but I don't see a notable decrease there either. I SUSPECT that it's only effective with valid email addresses (most spammers spoof).

EDIT: Let me answer this from DoNotPay:
"For spam collector, we demand the spammers to unsubscribe you from their mailing list. If they continue to send you emails, this allows you to generate a demand letter and ask for reimbursements."

The way this works is you're forced to go to the DoNotPay site, go to Spam Collector, and then for EACH spam mail, click "Yes", wait 4 seconds for the button to light up, then click Report, and wait 4 more seconds for it to clear.

I currently have around 7,000 and counting of these.

I WILL NOT sit there doing that excessive clicking on each email.

You need to create a "Report All" that just goes through and just does its thing.

IN a perfect world, your tool would auto-detect that a spam came from the same place and do it for me.

So basically, this tool isn't of any value when you're dealing with thousands of spam mails. It's fine if you're getting one-off spam, but you could do it yourself at that point.

⛔Cash Back on Gift Cards. I tested with two that I have laying around, neither worked. It seems to only work with store gift cards, i.e. Starbucks or whatever, and not Visa/Mastercard/Amex gift cards, which are much more common these days.

There's a lot of services and I haven't navigated all. Some I have no idea if they actually are doing anything - like the raffle entry (manual is free, automated costs money).

Donotpay helped me get a full refund from Expedia for a business class ticket without having to spend a single minute on Expedia. It was almost surreal. First I thought Donotpay was to good to be true. But after some research I saw they were legit. Their customer service (Joyce) was amazing, too (I contacted them to clarify something). I highly recommend giving them a try.

I really loved Donotpay at first I told everyone I knew about it. Even though it wasn't very user friendly to some extent.. it does have a ton of things it can do for you. The problem I have is all of the sudden now they have a premium option which costs an additional 45.00. I paid the 36.00 for the same options now the price goes up? Really not fair to have me pay for certain things that are all of the sudden now premium. Hopefully you don't lose a lot of customers due to this. People are already strapped for cash and the whole purpose of donotpay was to help us out, not keep upping the price. Seems to be turning into more of a scam than anything. Very upset because I use to love it. Now I feel ripped off.

DoNotPay -says do not pay Anyone but they are asking everyone to pay them . I want them to show me a way not to pay them.

You basically pay $40 to get access to a bunch of requests for you to pay more to unlock all the features. It's a scam.

Great premise. Poor execution

“Impossible to completely” when I gave everything they needed, it should’ve been an easy case as my case was something being falsely delivered and paid for.

Completely Unhelpful. Didn't cancel the the thing I paid them to get out of, and now I can't even log in again to see why without giving my bank information again. Definitely a scam.

Nope. Nope. & Nope. This company is the antithesis of their name & business model. I’ve been charged for over a year, oddly I recall downloading the app as a trial originally when I lost my job in December, 2018 for assistance if needed. I was unfamiliar with navigating the unemployment system. So, shrugging off $3 here & there, I started noticing my info being subject to a data breach & compromised. There’s no history of my app “purchase” or download I should say, that I can view from the time I purchased my phone. I simply Googled: donotpay scam & here I am. I’ve disputed 2 charges I was allotted by my bank, yay, $6 to about $72.
I have zero confidence in a reply to my support@donotpay emails, nor any reply I get from this review.

Just hoping another person doesn’t fall victim to this fraudulent company and/or victim of identity fraud/compromised info.

Scam company, almost all the 5* reviews are bought/fake. You have to automatically enter your payment (mainly bank) information before you can do anything on the site. Then regardless of what you choose they'll charge you. It's a scam to get you paying $36 a month regardless of what you do and they'll never let you cancel it unless you basically get rid of your bank account.

I was pretty upset when I was charged $35 after linking my debit card, but when I wanted to cancel the service it was painless and I got a refund, so I'm happy. great customer service, just don't like the fee they charge with a pretty small disclaimer mentioning the charge.

I joined to try the Burner Phone service they provide to join Tinder. It didn't work at all. Also I didn't choose the annual subscription choice when joining, I chose the second option which takes your credit card details but has a fee figure of $0.00. They automatically charged my card $36.00 then without my consent. I didn't order anything costing $36,they didn't even send a receipt/invoice/purchase email.

they do not let you sign in unless you give bank details yet somehow debiting your bank account 40 a month; for nothing.

Received modest ($175) Arizona Unclaimed Property payment as advertised. The state did take 90 days to review and approve the claim, but that is the state's process - not DoNotPay. Found money is found money!

WHAT A SCAM!!! This app showed up when I was trying to dispute a charge with my bank. My thinking was great here is an app to help me. Needless to say it didn't help and I woke up to a 36 dollar charge in my bank the next morning. I sent a polite email and have not gotten any response. Do yourself a favor and don't get tricked like me.

I signed up based on DoNotPay's representations that their burner phone would work for phone verification with Venmo. It didn't.

charged twice. scam company! I want all my refunds! Don't need the stupid subscription! Refund both of my charges!

I’ve used DoNotPay several times. All with excellent results. Always answered my e-mails promptly. I highly recommend this company.
