I recently underwent a gastric sleeve surgery at Istanbul Cerrahi Hospital in Turkey with Dr. Mahmut Doğan, and I am beyond impressed with the care and expertise I received throughout my journey. Dr. Doğan was simply outstanding! With what I would call “magical hands,” he performed my surgery with such skill that I experienced no pain afterward, something I didn’t even think was possible. I felt a true sense of relief and comfort knowing that I was in such capable hands.

Special mention goes to Eva, the hospital coordinator, who made my entire experience feel personal and attentive. She is incredibly kind, loving, and dedicated—always checking up on me with genuine care. Her constant support and willingness to answer every question made me feel more like family than a patient.

The nurses, though they didn’t speak English, made every effort to connect and communicate with me. They used Google Translator, ensuring I always understood what they were doing and that my needs were met. Their dedication and thoughtfulness really stood out, and I truly appreciated their efforts.

In addition to the fantastic hospital care, my stay at the hotel was equally enjoyable and well-coordinated. The whole experience was smooth, reassuring, and, most importantly, positive.

For anyone considering this journey, I would wholeheartedly recommend Istanbul Cerrahi Hospital. The professionalism and compassion of Dr. Mahmut Doğan and the entire team, combined with the warmth of the staff, made this experience truly exceptional.

From start to finish I cannot fault the process my coordinator was amazing from start to finish answering any questions I had no matter what the time..
Arriving in Istanbul off the plane I found my way to where my driver was very easily and was greeted by my coordinator on arrival at the hospital for my admission, all the staff were friendly and could not do enough for you.
Dr Dogan met me the morning of surgery and instantly put me at ease, surgery was succesful and i can not thank him enough for this lifestyle change...
Since surgery nearly 3 weeks ago I have kept in touch with coordinator with some questions just for reassurance that things are being done right.
Honestly do not hesitate booking this surgeon. My whole experience was amazing and i can not thank Dr Dogan and his team enough.

Thank you for my great experience Dr Mahmut Dogan. All the staff were lovely, professional and very caring. I’m very happy with the outcome of surgery and feel really strong.

Venturing to another country for major surgery, is a big deal and a lot of research went into my decision.
The communication is done via whatsapp by Kerem and he is responsive and has very good English language skills.
All the information exchanged and arrangements are made.
I had a few additional queries throughout in relation to health issues that I have. Kerem consults with Dr Dogan and gets back to you quickly.
The transfer was good, the driver doesn't speak much English but he is friendly and welcoming.
We went straight to hospital for paperwork and tests.
These were done swiftly and Mary was with me throughout to translate and explain what was being done.
The day of operation, was taken to the theatre area and this was the only place that i felt uneasy. There was not any communication in English aside from being told to transfer on the surgical table. It was good to be back on the ward, where the nurses were brilliant.
They look after you very well, they speak basic English and understand when you say "pain" or "toilet"
I only used the translator on my phone one time whilst i was in hospital.
The day following surgery was more painful than expected but the quality of care is second to none.
Dr Dogan, Kerem, Mary all come to check on you throughout your stay.
Dr Dogan has a genuine care for his patients and is happy to answer questions after surgery.
You will see a dietician and be given protein shakes, apple juice and soup sachet. I found water hard to tolerate and went to the shops to get more apple juice when we had been discharged. The dietician gives lots of paperwork and schedule of what you could eat in the weeks following surgery. Its vital you stick to the first weeks' liquid plan.
The hotel we stayed at was good for recovery.
Istanbul airport is big and i would recommend people whom travel alone, may think about requesting assistance for luggage.
Take a wheeled suitcase/bag as after surgery, you maybe sore and find carrying too much a problem.
There was no issue at the airport in terms of taking your liquids and medication through alongside the fit to fly paperwork you are given by Kerem.
After arriving home, I have heard from the dietician and Kerem.
My surgery wounds didnt want to heal so I was back and forth to my nurse in the UK for regular dressing. This was individual to me, not a reflection of surgery abroad but worth mentioning that you need to be mindful of after affects of surgery which I dont think i prepared myself for as best as i could have.
You get given 1 month supply of stomach protector meds and vitamins but you need 3 months. If your doctor at home is supportive, they will prescribe you more tablets no problem but for those who do not have NHS support, it might be worth buying the other 2 months required, from a pharmacy in Turkey, not the airport though, that is expensive !
I would highly recommend Dr Dogan and his team for bariatric surgery.

From the very beginning, the communication with the English coordinator, Eva, was clear, concise, and prompt, which helped set the tone for a seamless experience. Upon our arrival, everything was well-organized, and the entire team, particularly Mary, ensured that my husband Pita and I felt comfortable and at ease.

The procedure went smoothly, and now, 7 days post-op, we are thrilled with the incredible results. I want to extend my sincere thanks to Dr. Dogan and the entire team for their professionalism and care. I highly recommend their services to anyone considering this journey.

Pre-op i was in contact with Eda who helped me get my desired date of the appointment abe on short notice. I travelled from Germany to have my surgery and i was unaccompanied. During my stay in Turkey i was accompanied by Nurse Mary who was amazing to say the least!! She took me through all my tests, was with me every checkup and explained everything. My surgery went well and as soon as i woke up i never had any pain to date. I only had a minor throat irritation after i had been discharged from hospital which i raised with the doctor. With organization of Eda, i was quickly slotted for a check up with the doctor to rule out infection. Luckily it ws nothing and he cleared me to fly. The entire Dr Dogan Mahmut team was amazing and i would highly recommend them.

Thank you to Dr. Dogan and his awesome team. My friend had done a gastric bypass with him several years ago and recommended him. Communication with his team was excellent from the initial inquiry until even now. Eda and Mary are great. Mary stayed with me for all the pre-op procedures and it was a great to have someone with me the whole time. That constant support was much appreciated. If you are looking into this type of procedure, I would recommend Dr. Dogan and his team without hesitation. ❤️

Coming from Australia I was abit anxious about having my surgery performed here, but once I arrived the team and Dr Dogan himself were very awesome to work with. Before surgery we had Mary with us the whole time assisting us from start to finish. We also met Dr Dogan & Eva and they were very helpful and reassuring! After surgery, the service at the hospital was awesome, we had hourly checkups from nurses and doctors and they fed my husband every meal! I am 4 days Post Op and the team still check up on me to make sure I am doing okay. Very grateful to have had an awesome experience here with this group of people. The service is amazing, I’m glad I chose them!

I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 28th June 2024 and flew from Scotland for the surgery. From before I left the team were super knowledgable and able to answer any questions and concerns I had before I left, the booking process was so easy and I felt really relaxed having all my booking confirmations for flights etc beforehand.
When I arrived in Istanbul I was met right outside the airport with my private taxi which was so luxurious, I flew into a different airport so the transfer was around 40 minutes as we arrived late at night. When we arrived we were taken straight to the hospital and I was admitted as my surgery was the next day - Mary met us at the hospital and was so lovely I felt instantly at ease. I had x rays and blood tests as well as an ECG done the night before and we were left to get some rest. The hospital room was like a hotel in the UK, my partner had a sofa bed next to me and it was so nice to have him there before, during and after. The morning of my surgery Mary came to see me again and took me for an ultrasound, it found I had gallstones and I was offered my gallbladder to be removed during surgery but I opted against this. I was taken down to theatre and met by the nurses and anaesthetist - after arriving in theatre that’s all I remember before waking up in recovery. The staff in the hospital were first class, I had a call button in my room and the team of Dr Dogan came to check me multiple times a day to ensure I was comfortable and not in any pain, before discharge I also met with the dietician who explained the process of recovery in depth as well. The team are contactable by whatsapp all the time, the hospital is also excellent there was a cafe downstairs for my partner to get some meals in as well.
The day we flew home I managed a look around the malls with my pain relief and definitely found walking helped my recovery. I’m now three months post op and 3.5 stone down, it’s completely changed my life and the only regret I have is not doing this sooner. The team are still in contact with me to check on my process. If you’re considering this surgery I wouldn’t advise going to anyone other than Dr Dogan.

Я приехала с весом 130 кг ровно 2 мес назад. На данный момент -19 кг.
Чувства голода нет! Наедаюсь с 3 ложек. Пропал тремор (раньше был если вовремя не поем). Я начала на себя смотреть по другому и любить себя!
До операции что я только не пробовала. И кето диета, и диета Дюкана и спорт. Да, вес уходил но очень быстро возвращался. Постоянно в голове еда , и прямо зависимость какая-то.
А сейчас я освободилась от этого. Моя жизнь не крутится вокруг «вкусно пожрать». И это так кайфово.
Доктору Догану и его команде особая благодарность. Замечательная команда. Прошло 2 мес а я в любой момент могу написать и мне ответят, поддержат, посоветуют.
Жаль что так долго я решалась. Надо было это сделать раньше.

20.06.24 я решилась на операцию.
Выбирать клинику и доктора , долго не пришлось , мои друзья посоветовали так как они имели опыт уже у доктора Догана! Без всяких сомнений я связалась с клиникой,на все мои вопросы и регистрацию отвечал Керем, спасибо ему большое. Приехав в Стамбул , все было организовано, нас встретили привезли в клинику где нас ждала уже Мери , все проходила быстро Керем и Мери не оставляли ни на минуту. Комфортабельный трансфер, уютная палата , вежливый персонал, за что большое спасибо !!!
На утро назначена операция и встреча с Доктором Махмудом Доганом! Это врач от Бога и мастер своего дела!
Операция прошла отлично , после операции спустя 2 часа, я уже встала.

Myself and my wife where met at İstanbul airport, picked up driven to the hospital met at reception where we promptly checked in and escorted to my hospital room. The room was cosy but not long after we were moved into a more spacious room. This was Saturday morning early hours. Great start nice staff polite and professional. After a few hours sleep I was met by Mary whom works for Dr Dogan has an interpreter and go between. Absolutely brilliant, a very intelligent and hard working girl. She made me feel at ease the all time. Saturday morning was like a whirlwind tests X-rays and endoscope investigation on my stomach. The tests revealed a problem so I was advised by dr Dogan to change the procedure which I did. After 3 hours I was returned to my room and tentatively cared for for the next 24 hours. Everyone explained everything to me all the time which was very reassuring, I moved out of the hotel on the 24/09/2024 and stayed in a lovely hotel. My back up is through the wattsapp group for Mary and also Kerem whom also works for Dr Dogan again a lovely knowledgeable guy. I’m very apprehensive re my procedure but I was treat so well and also my wife. Thank you to all concerned I look forward to uploading my results in the coming weeks,month's and years.
