Xiaomi, European Union: How the above keep staying above …
I own already two Redmi Note Smartphones: 8T and 11s
This review is about the latter one or rather my experiences with an update of its Miui operating system (European versions if there is a difference)!
Since many weeks I am still most upset with myself about having authorized (unintentionally) this update! I was somehow aware that such an update is most likely nothing I desire not to speak need. Nevertheless the manufacturer tries to make it as hard as possible to NOT make such an update! I had done my best to switch off any automatic updates but still the threat of an update cannot (at least to my knowledge) be switched off or even avoided. Very very often one keeps to be reminded that there is an update waiting to be confirmed an set in motion by as few clicks as possible (which is likely the reason why I unintentionally authorized the update). Anyway, I couldn't notice anything that works better since this update but unfortunately a lot that the update made horribly dysfunctional which before the update was working reasonably well! One particularly affected application is the file manager: It is much slower now and especially much more dysfunctional in handling. E.g pictures are not displayed in their full resolution nor sharpness, one cannot zoom into them as before the update and they can't be displayed in the panoramic position! One can do all of this only in the gallery app, but one can't scroll through the pictures and immediately use the above functions. One has to open the pictures individually in the file manager and then open it to the gallery then close the gallery again and open the next picture, open it in the gallery and so on. Each time it feels like a whiplash into the face. I can't help but think of this as a very deliberate downgrade to make customers believe their phone is too old and defective and they need to buy a new one! Also the search for certain files has been reduced in its functionality: Very bad, one cannot reverse the order of the lists which makes it necessary in one single search to repeatedly scroll down for ages to get to the newest file and at the same time no possibility to search by file name or parts of this! If anything comparable would be done to a manager no matter whether at Xiaomi, or in the European administration, or elsewhere they would most likely sue the responsible person or company or organisation! This is like a modern version of slavery! Our politicians are so weak and incapable of protecting us from such abuse, but of course as they like here in Germany grant themselves exceptionally generous allowances they of course would never have to experience calamities as the above. They just use iPhones. Even though iPhones also have a high measure of dysfunctionality if one needs to solely rely on one as a means of personal data processing which of course they never would have to. It's mostly people who have to resort to the cheapest smartphones who feel compelled to try and use this gadget to organise their whole data and photos and public media on top!
