Almost a scam site

I didn't realize I had 2+ months left on my membership. They allowed me to pay for a new membership while I still had those 2+ months. When I confronted them about this, they offered to "renew" my original membership at the end of the 2+ months IF I give them another $100. THEN they would credit me back for the 2nd membership cost. The right thing to have done was to (#1) contact/communicate with me when I tried to start a new membership and inform me of the time I had left on it. And, (#2) after the fact, they should have canceled the 2nd membership and applied the credit to the renewal of my original membership.

They want you to pay but they don't want you to use the service you're paying for...

I’ve been a customer of this roadside assistance company for several years, and until recently, I had little to no need to use the service. Unfortunately, over the past few months, we’ve had legitimate vehicle issues despite spending thousands of dollars trying to fix them.

This is exactly why we purchased roadside assistance—to have peace of mind during unexpected breakdowns. Instead of support, however, we were repeatedly met with warnings and threats to cancel our membership each time we requested a tow.

To be clear, we were not abusing the service. These were real breakdowns, and after years of paying into the program with minimal usage, we had more than covered the cost of the assistance we received this year.

The experience left us feeling like the service is misrepresented. It’s advertised as a safety net when you need it most, but when we actually needed it, we were treated like a liability instead of a customer.

Based on our experience, I would not recommend this company if you are looking for reliable support during genuine vehicle issues.

No Unlimited Service

When I used the service, billed as unlimited, it was like others, wait over an hour for any type of service. That was okay. I paid for two years and used it about 3 times in six months. A tow, a lockout and something else. All different vehicles. No problem. Than the company sent me an email threatening to cancel my membership because we used the service too much. I call that false advertising. Sales rep never mentioned that. I will not renew. Company lacks integrity.

Don’t Waste Your Money

We’ve been Good Sam members more than 15 years and fortunately have not had to use the roadside service. In the last 2 years we have called twice. The first time the wrecker showed up after 2 hours and tells us he cannot tow our vehicle because he doesn’t have the right truck! Second time was today. Called to get a flat tire changed. My husband who is outside in freezing temperatures with gloves on gets 3 text fairly close together. 1-confirmation of service 2-do you still need service? He replied yes 3- your service has been cancelled because we were unable to locate you. I work from home….he was outside with the vehicle NO one was here!!! Called back to Good Sam customer service, stay on hold while the guy tries to back track what happened. He tells me someone has been dispatched again. I asked that they place phone calls instead of text given the situation mentioned above (cold,gloves). Sitting at my desk looking at the vehicle sitting in my driveway, I hear my husband’s phone ringing multiple times. They called and tried to tell him the reason the first visit was cancelled were locking hubs on the vehicle and they couldn’t change the tire. Two more lies! Again we have been right here no one came and our truck does not have locking hubcaps. As I sit here 5 hours later, three different companies have called to say they will be here sometime between 60-180 minutes. Furious is an understatement. Don’t waste your money on this service.

You need to lie to get service

To get service with Good Sam, I found out that you need to lie, at least that is the message I got when I called to get my car towed. I had car trouble before the weekend, but because the shop where I wanted to take the car would be closed over the weekend, I opted to wait until the shop was open the following week. Then I ended up getting sick, so I waited another day before calling. When I called to get the car towed, I was told that I had waited too long from the time the car needed a tow to when I had called. Had I lied and told them that it had happened the day before, they would have provided me service. Of course, they would be glad for me to pay out of pocket but why have a membership then. Very disappointed. Why should it matter if it was one day or 3 days later when you need the car towed?

I canceled my Good Sam membership…

I canceled my Good Sam membership months ago after learning they do not tow from one automotive shop to another, which made the service useless for my needs.

Six months later, they randomly charged $90 to my account with no authorization. When I called to address it, the representative was dismissive, did not apologize, and falsely claimed I had “another membership.” That is absolutely not true.

This felt deceptive and unprofessional. Charging customers months after cancellation and then trying to deflect responsibility instead of owning the mistake is unacceptable. It comes across as playing games with people’s money.

I would not recommend this company based on my experience. Check your bank statements carefully if you’ve ever been a member.

Not there when you need them, shameful company

Horrible company, you're better off without them! I purchased a platinum coverage package for my truck camper so that we'd be taken care of in case anything happens, it can be tough to find a tow for a big vehicle so I thought having specialized coverage made sense. Unfortunately, they just wiggle out of actually doing anything when you need it. We were struck by another vehicle the other day and were on a dangerous turn with our anchor points for the camper ripped off. We barely had any cell service but I managed to make a call to Good Sam, I explained the situation, that we were in a fairly sketchy spot and we needed a tow out of there, first, they put me on hold for like 7 minutes, I was worried the call was going to drop, only to come back and say they don't cover a tow for our vehicle being disabled by someone else hitting it, only if it breaks down. I had previously called to talk with a rep for about an hour, to understand coverage in detail and never once was this stipulation mentioned. What a shameless company, their whole value proposition is about being covered when you need it and then when you call them they wiggle out of helping. We are fairly young and capable, and managed to figure out how to tie the camper to the frame because we had tools and skills, but this company preys on older rv-ers who may not be comfortable or prepared to do that kind of thing. Shame on them, I'll go back to AAA.

Bogus request for renewal

Just got a letter in the mail telling me my Platinum coverage was about to expire and I needed to pay $89.95 to not loose my coverage.
Problem is: I don’t have Good Sam Platinum Roadside Coverage. I have no idea who these folks are. I looked them up online and it seems they prey on the RV community - I don’t have nor have I ever had an RV. I use AAA for my roadside coverage and have for a very long time!

Been with Good SAM for 10 YEARS & they…

Been with Good SAM for 10 YEARS & they weren't there when I needed them, Long story but was driving in Ore & FYI your GPS shows logging roads as highways(!) & got misdirected by GPS onto a 'shortcut to bypass bridge construction' . Road kept narrowing & my small motorcoach was suddenly in the ditch! Several times I tried calling Good SAM with no answer (Sheriff who came out said I was in a NO SERVICE area, no wonder. Now Good Sam is refusing to reimburse an $800 tow truck bill charged to winch me out. After 6 calls & final call to Marcus Lemonis, VIP Pres Hot Line was told I should have walked the 3 miles back out to main road in the dark & flagged a car down & told them to call Good SAM? YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING? All I can say is Thank Heavens for 911 Service. THX to 911 the Sheriff finally found me & told 911 to get a tow truck out. Good SAM Claims agents are idiots. They denied an $800 reimbursement saying I did not have a 'screen shot of the 3 calls I attempted to make to Good SAM' which the Sheriff informed me "calls that do NOT go thru in a NO SERVICE area will NOT show up on your phone". Idiots! Let's see how Good SAM responds to my complaint filed with the Attorney General now. Ten years of paying insurance premiums & Good SAM won't pay an $800 bill. That's REPREHENSIBLE. And the last Agent I spoke with said they are not going to speak with me anymore since I am taking legal action AND they are not renewing my policy...like I am the bad guy. As a Senior citizen all I can say is SHAME ON GOOD SAM!

Not so good sam !

We paid good sam for years, never needed them, but to begin with when we did need them, they tried to tell us that our membership was cancelled way back in 2022, which we knew was Not true, after arguing about an hour, they finally said oh here it is, now it's raining, I'm wet, muddy, and greasy, after finally admitting our membership was valid they agreed to send a tow truck but from Gainesville Ga to Hartwell GA. it cost us over $400.00, the next day as we were still dealing with this, there was an advertisement for new members so much a month, And (Unlimited) mileage for towing, well needless to say we were pissed, so we dropped (good for nothing sam), and went back to AAA the original service with a (Way) better towing plan, so my advice is to go with a reputable company that's offered towing packages for years !!!

Dishonest membership terms. I do not recommend this company at all.

I have good Sam roadside assistance for my RV. I have never used it before today when I broke down and I called them. It’s supposed to have unlimited towing to the nearest service center. Well it has to be a service center. That will actually fix my RV. I can’t take it to a Volvo dealership after all. So I found a place 49 miles awaygood Sam membership said unlimited towing to a service provider. They tried to charge me $845.to tow it to the nearest service provider that could work on my RV I am switching back to AAA. I never had a problem with AAA. They towed my RV where it needed to go and I never had a problem.

Do not use Good Sam

I attempted to cancel my Good Sam Roadside Assistance membership multiple times via phone, email, and physical mail since disptch service was never provided but received no confirmation or refund. Despite assurances, my cancellation was not processed, and I was left without the service I paid for and the company has been unresponsive. I am now seeking a refund through other channels.

Update on my initial complaint regarding Good Sam

When I went to the AAA website, I inadvertently ended up signing up for Good Sam. Realizing my mistake when I received a membership card for Good Sam. I immediately sent an email to the CEO (who invited communications with members) and requested that my payment be refunded. After no reply several days later I sent another email to the same “Mr. Caring” and again received no response. It looks like there’s no refund coming my way - given the abysmal ratings this company has received it is not surprising. I will chalk this up to a learning experience and will contact the real roadside assistance program (AAA) and engage their services. I will also look for other sites that detail the poor reputation of Good Sam and share my experience; hopefully this will cause individuals looking into Good Sam to think twice about signing up with them.
UPDATE: my payment to Good Sam was refunded today, so I give them credit for finally acceding to my request to cancel my service and refund my payment. However I never received any direct contact with the CEO or company representatives to discuss my concerns so that is still a negative.

This company charged my credit card yesterday for Roadside assistance, I have not dealt with good sam. for a very long time. I wonder how many times the company gets away with this, I will never ever deal with a company that scams seniors,, Credit my account . This company should be investigated and class as a scam

This company is a joke

This company is a joke. I signed up last year and my policy was $83 per month. I was out of country and they auto renewed my account and now charging me 217.00 per month. I called and spoke to a very rude young lady who stated this policy went up this much and because it auto renewed, this was the new policy amount. I requested a cancellation and they not only charged me a fee of $50 to cancel, but also another $50 dollars just because they could and the young lady said there was nothing I could do about it. I will NEVER work with this company again. Highway robbery and PISS POOR customer service.

Hide the Truth - The girl sold me on the roadside…

The girl sold me on the roadside assistance and then took my credit card. Then when i told her i was leaving tomorrow she said you don't have coverage for 48 hours. So she took my CC and then after the fact informed me I can't use it on my trip tomorrow. Horrible! Then the supervisor came on the phone and I got him to cancel the order but the card will be charged tonight at midnight but I'll get it refunded but could take up to 30 days. Seriously!! Finally the card they sent me by email stated it expires one year from today, so I lose the 48 hours. Unbelievable. Advice, Don's Sign Up!

First time I've used Good Sam for…

First time I've used Good Sam for roadside assistance, been a member for over a year. I've now been waiting hours for a tow truck. They keep calling to tell me they are "working on it" and that the phone number of the tow company keeps disconnecting. I won't pay for another year after this. Really poor service, and their office team members do not speak fluent English.
