My experience with HealthEquity's COBRA…
My experience with HealthEquity's COBRA administration has been extremely frustrating.
We have paid approximately $1,600 per month for family COBRA coverage since our coverage became effective. Although HealthEquity repeatedly assured me that my husband was enrolled, Aetna and Cigna Dental were unable to verify his coverage, causing us to postpone medical and dental appointments.
I made numerous phone calls over several weeks trying to resolve the issue. Every representative told me my husband was on the plan, yet the insurance carriers still could not see him as an active covered member. I even waited more than 30 minutes to speak with the highest-level supervisor.
The most disappointing part was being told that the only way HealthEquity could consider reimbursement was to cancel my husband's coverage and reactivate it. I was not willing to risk disrupting his health insurance or creating additional eligibility issues.
I hope HealthEquity improves communication between its enrollment system and insurance carriers, as well as the way it handles unresolved customer issues. No one paying significant monthly premiums should have to spend this much time trying to prove they have covera
I am incredibly frustrated with…
I am incredibly frustrated with HealthEquity. What used to be a straightforward service has completely gone downhill due to severe technical failures and baffling claim denials. If you have a choice, look elsewhere.
1. Completely Broken Desktop Login (30+ Days)
After being forced to set up a passkey for account security, the desktop website broke entirely. Every attempt to log in results in an endless Cloudflare redirect loop. I reached out to their technical support team via email over 30 days ago and have received absolutely zero response.
2. Deceptive Advertising & Constant Claim Rejections
I submitted an FSA reimbursement claim for a functional health membership and routine lab work. HealthEquity actively advertises functional health memberships on their homepage and mobile app. Yet, when I submitted mine, they flat-out refused to reimburse the membership fee. They are also giving me an incredibly hard time about standard lab work. Reminder: This is my own pre-tax money they are withholding.
3. Glitchy Internal Systems & Poor Support
The moment I submitted my documentation, I received an instant, automated email stating my claim was declined. It looks like a completely broken CRM/marketing tech trigger. When I called their 1-800 customer service line to sort it out, the representative told me the claim wasn’t actually denied—it was "pending." Their internal tooling is a mess, sending false rejections to users and creating unnecessary panic.
Bottom Line: HealthEquity’s platform is riddled with technical glitches, their customer service is non-existent, and they make it unnecessarily difficult to access your own funds. I will be formally requesting that my employer switch to a different service provider. Avoid them if you can.
These people are the worst
These people are the worst. I paid them for dental and eye insurance for 6 months only to find out I had no coverage. Two weeks without a call back and I followed up. My coverage has been supposedly reinstated, but was was refused a refund of any kind. Run away from this company if you can!!!!
I would give it zero stars if I could
I would give it zero stars if I could. Absolutely useless. Claims are denied all the time for no rhyme or reason. I've had claims for basic health insurance reimbursement accepted month after month, and out of the blue it will be denied. Submitted again exactly the same, and it's approved. Basic health needs that are covered are questioned relentlessly. Expect to jump through a billion hoops.
They're just awful
They're just awful. They constantly ask for documentation for obvious medical expenses and when you provide the documentation, they say it's not valid. They constantly put the burden of proof on the customer rather than investing in the manpower to research the claims themselves. They say it's for IRS purposes but that's not the customers' problem.
Oh and now they require a passkey to access your own account so you have to upload a picture of your ID and then a selfie. This will be fun to deal with when they have their next data breach.
This HSA is just ridiculous and awful.
Stay Away
My account was fraudulently hacked for $2,400 which I reported timely and Health Equity recognized the dispute and flagged the charges and assured me that I would get that money back. Months later I noticed my account still wasn't reimbursed so I called. They told me that I was sent an affidavit which i have no record of and that there was a short turn around time associated with it. Since that timeline expired there was nothing they could do to help me. I escalated as high as I could and they still wouldn't help. I was told that I would receive a phone call after I reported the fraudulent charges which I never received. I went through every email I could extensively and I have no record of recieving it. Even if I did, who sends an affidavit of this importance with an expiration date and doesn't follow up. I wish I could pull every dime out of this account but sadly it's an employer sponsored plan.
This site and their mobile application…
This site and their mobile application as well as sign-on procedure are ripe with phishing, click baits, unscrupolus links.
They require your biometrics and government photo ID to register. This is plain dangerous and facilitates identity fraud!
I even got charged $2.00 for what I do not need!
Called to speak to representative; spend 30 min of work time on line to find out that I need to call again!
The new application is another channel to deliver bulk targeted advertisement.
The only reason I use them is that company deposits lump sum once a yera to my HSA account.06
Incredibly difficult to log in after multiple calls
It has been incredibly difficult for me to regain access to my account. I have been trying for over three months, making countless calls to customer service, only to be told repeatedly that I need to wait two weeks for a password reset letter. The letter never arrived. Instead, I received a notice regarding unusual activity on my account.
After receiving that letter, I called again and was once more instructed to wait several weeks for another letter, which also never arrived.
I recently had surgery and depend entirely on my HSA account for medical coverage and expenses. I have been unemployed for the past five months and currently have no source of income. This situation has become extremely urgent.
It is unacceptable that customers continue to be directed to a customer service process that has been unable to resolve this issue despite multiple attempts over several months. I respectfully ask that someone review my case and help restore access to my account as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
M account was hacked and all my…
M account was hacked and all my personal information was changed, including email, NAME, address and phone number. Health Equity could not be bothered to find out how it happened. They just told me to fill out a form to change my name back. On my last call to them the line kept going silent for long periods of time, to the point where I had to ask if they were still there multiple times.
Difficult to login and transact
Difficult to login due to Passkey requirements and unable to setup a passkey either on Android/iOS. Very unfriendly website and there is absolutely no support
absolutely abysmal company
absolutely abysmal company. For seven months, I have been trying sell all of my investments so that I can roll my HSA funds into my current employers HSA. Month after month I sell 100% of my investments only to come back a week or two later and all but a few dollars have been sold. I'm then told that I cannot close the account until 100% of the investments are sold. They seem to be on purposely making sure that 100% is not sold so that they don't have to give up my funds. I researched the companies financial stability and they are in trouble. This is a delay tactic reported by other customers. Go to Chat GPT and Google AI and read for yourself the horrible reviews they get. Terrible company!!!!!!
They updated their site's log in…
They updated their site's log in process and it is impossible to log in without them getting an upload of your identification. That is an article with you picture, a government issued identification number and your address. They state this is secure but they manage health account balances are are NOT an electronic knowledge repository. There are disclosures that mention they will not "intentionally" mishandle or disclose your information. That does not work for me and I am tired of sites that take your money, your service fees and then give you no guarantees. Whoever ok'd this needs to have an evaluation because I'm closing the account. No more money for you. You've lost a long-standing customer for the illusion of security. I'm not disclosing more info that is vulnerable while you fake your way through it.
Terrible and impossible to use website
Terrible and impossible to use website. It shouldn't take a god damn entire college course just to learn how to log in
Absolutely horrible company to deal…
Absolutely horrible company to deal with. Poor costumer service and horrible web interface.
technical glitches on the website and…
technical glitches on the website and app, poor customer support
This company is absolutely horrible
This company is absolutely horrible! Every time I have to deal with them there is another problem! The customer service stinks! When you call in the representatives don't have the faintest idea of how to help you and even if they did they usually don't have the authority to do what needs to be done. All the decisions are made by the back office and the communication is horrible! To sum it up Health Equity stinks!
Hold funds for no reason
I funded my HSA to use for medical expenses. The money was taken from my bank account within 24 hours. However, it is not "usable" or "available" in my HSA for 2 weeks. It was a considerable amount of money which is literally being held hostage by Health equity for no reason.
WHERE IS MY MONEY????:
I have been trying to get proof of payment for 5 payments for 9 months. Every time I call they keep me on the phone for an hour and say I will receive the copies in 7-10 business days and I never get the proper cancelled checks. The account number they put in the Memo is THEIR claim number, so there's no way my hospital would be able to apply it properly. The hospital thinks I'm a deadbeat. Multiple dates of experience as I have called every month since August
If i could give it zero I would
If i could give it zero I would. Every function asks me to verify the account and then that form does not find the account. I need to pay bills and this is the worst site in the world. THE WORST SITE EVER MADE. Fix it. Its your job.
Given misinformation, Terrible processes when someone else contributes to the HSA
1) They use AI chat bots and the bots will claim to be human when they're not. I could tell because I was told I was transferred to a live agent/human, and every answer I got would contain "Hi (first name!), Hi (first name!), Hi (first name)!"
2) They make it extremely difficult to let someone else contribute to your HSA account. My grandmother who's in her 90's and not doing well can barely see, hear, or move lately. She wrote a physical check to contribute to my HSA, bless her. I was told I could upload the check and a completed contribution form to the website by one customer service agent over the phone. It would take 5-7 business days she said.
5-7 business days later no movement on that. I uploaded things to the right place. Called in twice, and two agents explained to me that is not their process. They will not accept any form of a digital check if someone is making a contribution in that way. It NEEDS to be a physical check. I was told "I'm sorry YOU received wrong information." That's not how you word an apology.
Have your friend/family member just transfer the money to your bank account so you can deposit it.
Additional note: They use a "smart card". Which is hardly very smart. It will auto decline if you buy something from a store that is not set up a certain way for medical transactions EVEN IF THE MEDICAL SERVICES OR ITEMS ARE HSA/FSA ELIGIBLE. My favorite example: Tried paying for my medication at Walgreens. The express pay declined with their HSA card. Ran the card manually. It worked. Like.. Why??
