I received my first order from Hoyles of Oxford today and felt compelled to share my positive experience on Trustpilot.

From the moment I unpacked my items, I was impressed by the thoughtful and eco-friendly approach to their packaging. Hoyles uses repurposed materials, which immediately won them major points in my book. As someone who’s actively involved with my employer’s sustainability efforts, I deeply appreciate the challenges involved, and seeing a company prioritise environmental responsibility is refreshing. I only wish more businesses would adopt similar practices. Admittedly, I opened my parcel with a little too much enthusiasm, rendering the box unsuitable for reuse, but knowing it’s 100% cardboard means it will now enrich my compost and, ultimately, next year’s tomato crop—a win-win!

Adding a personal touch, my package included a handwritten note, which I found especially heartwarming. In today's mostly digital world, such gestures set a company apart and really made my unboxing experience memorable.

Overall, my first interaction with Hoyles of Oxford was exceptional. The order arrived promptly, and the quality of the items was excellent. Plus, the small but impactful aforementioned details have cemented Hoyles of Oxford as the top choice for my future games-related purchases. Wonderful customer service from Hoyles - my order went missing due to Royal Mail's incompetence (no fault of Hoyles whatsoever) but Hoyles saved the day, sending out a replacement on a next day service. Huge thanks to Sjef and the Hoyles team.

UPDATE: Hoyles apologised for the lack of communication, which they assured me wasn't typical for them and that unfortunately my emails were missed. It happens, and I believe them. Since then, the customer service team have been extremely helpful and have completely rectified the issue. They refunded my order that was lost (unfortunately it was the last in stock) and offered a 20% discount in the future. All in all, I would be very happy to buy here again and would now recommend them to anyone.

ORIGINAL: Bought an item and Paypal changed the delivery address to my old home. I contacted Hoyles immediately to correct it. They ignored two emails and a while later the item was dispatched to the incorrect address. I have still had no response to anything. I did try to redirect via royal mail, but they also failed to acknowledge me and so now it seems that nobody wishes to listen.

Chess set delivered promptly with excellent packaging and a personalised note. It’s a gift so not yet opened.

I ordered a chess set from Hoyles for a present. When it arrived it was sightly damaged. I told them about this and their response was immediate and first class. Oyla went out of her way to send me a replacement board and apologised, offered me additions and paid for all courier services to and fro. It was old school customer service at its very best and it means that I wouldn't hesitate to order from this great institution again.
