dodgy and black mailer
i recently used them for legal advice, they imposed me and extra invoice of £285 saying that i owe them this invoice from last year may, they put in invoice its for 2 persons as i am only director in my company, they then said its for two properties while there was not two mortgage, they they black mailed me to pay them otherwise they will hold my document, i had not choice, dont use them at all

This issue related to an unresolved invoice from a previous appointment. Where there is an outstanding fee query from an earlier matter, it does need to be addressed before a further fixed-fee appointment can proceed. The client was, of course, free not to continue with the new booking and to instruct another provider if they preferred.
We reviewed the payment history carefully. Our records did not show that the earlier invoice had been paid, and evidence of payment was requested where this was disputed.
We do not accept the characterisation of events in this review. The position was simply that a previous fee issue needed to be resolved before further work could be undertaken.
We have also improved our systems so that payment is now dealt with before completed documentation is released, which helps avoid this type of historic administrative issue arising again.
We remain focused on making the ILA process as clear, fast and hassle-free as possible, with fees handled transparently and fairly.

It was a very easy and straightforward process, thanks to Paul of Brewer Wallace for his support. Fast, efficient service on the point. Easy to book appointment. Remember to select solicitor first as dates change while booking appt. No hidden fees collected from me. Invoice sent after appointment and docs released on payment on same day. Docs sent by special delivery, I received it the following day.

4 weeks after starting the process I…
4 weeks after starting the process I finally get the online meeting. The lawyer arrives 5' late. Then proceeds to read the mortgage offer on screen (no advance reading) and says he cannot advise because the mortgage is under Scots law. What a complete waste of time. Useless

As set out in our booking terms, our panel solicitors are SRA-regulated and able to advise on matters in England and Wales only. Scots law is a separate jurisdiction, and in cases like this it only becomes apparent once the lender’s documents are received and reviewed shortly before the appointment—so unfortunately it can’t always be identified earlier.
In this instance, the timing was driven by a specific lender process that is outside of the norm and unfortunately outside of our control. Until the required ILA documentation is issued, the appointment can’t proceed. Once everything is in place, we aim to offer availability as quickly as possible—often next day ⚡
We also apologise that the meeting didn’t start on time. That’s not the standard we aim for, and we’re addressing this internally.
We’re continuing to refine our onboarding checks to reduce the risk of situations like this and keep the process as smooth and efficient as possible.
