JD Gyms - Leeds Kirkstall Road Reviews 

The gym is freezing cold. Both men and women are having to train in jumpers, hoodies and even coats. The radiator is barely turned on and the temperature of the showers has been turned down. It's a joke that isn't amusing for £25 a month. Old equipment that is out of use alot of the time. On a plus side, all the staff are lovely and friendly

Gym's main facilities are great. I like that there are women's only areas but if they're maintained to a lower standard than the rest of the gym, it just feels as though they're just an afterthought; there was what I think is sand all over the floor and the matts?

That and it seems to be difficult to get a hold of staff. I've now sent two emails, neither of which have received a response which is less than ideal.

A lot of the machines are rickety and poorly maintained, there are not enough barbells for the squat, deadlift, and bench areas, and plates are hard to locate/scattered around the gym

Been a member for some time, the size of the place means it has all the equipment you need and more. Recently the club has looked a lot cleaner and fresher, with staff being super friendly engaging in conversations all the time. Would highly recommend to anyone in the Kirkstall area.

Manager Dani is amazing and so lovely , helped me with all my questions and can definitely see the difference in the cleanliness of the gym since last time I was a member here a year ago

Inconsistent scanners with access barcode leading to build up of memners trying to get in. Zero organisation to dumbells or plates. Many cables available but the majority are broken or have poor function (different feel/ fluidity in bilateral motions). Appaling gym etiquette, plates not removed or put away, people using multiple pieces of equiptment unneccessarily, poor spavial awareness. I managed 3 sessions and have requested a cancellation.

Gym is dirty and half the equipment doesn't work

All equipment needs fixing . Toilets smells.
Lazy staffs that don’t do anything.
Bad hygiene

No cleaning station or cloths/roll provided to keep the machines clean after use. A dispenser with wipes would atleast be something.
Way too many cardio machines and only one of each strength machine. There should be atleast 2 of each machine, especially the basic ones like leg extensions and back extensions.

Not a single vegan option in the vending machine which I find surprising given the massive health benefits

Of course they made the process to leave the gym long and annoying it's over crowded and don't have enough machines and they are broken constantly don't go here the show isn't worth the effort

The women’s section definitely needs improvement. It is extremely hot and thete is little variety in weights. Please add more in.

consistently being logged out and unable to use the gyms services while still paying. tried to solve the issue via enquiry, never heard back, tried to phone, never answered the phone, tried to email, email never answered. I have now made two memberships and payed the fee TWICE and my newest account has defaulted too. I can't get in contact with anyone to fix this issue.

The gym has potential, but it’s let down by poor equipment availability and organisation. There aren’t enough leg machines; the leg press, leg extension, and lying leg curl are always in use, which makes training legs quite frustrating.

The free weight area is also messy most of the time. Dumbbells are rarely in the right place and weights are often left scattered across the floor, which makes it harder to find what you need.

Would be a much better gym if it was managed more closely and had more leg equipment added.

£30 a month while pure gym and gym group charge way less. No student packages. Some machines have been out of order for weeks. The remaining ones are in horrible condition. The grips on the cable attachments have padding fallen off. Difficult to enter as the code reader reads the QR code half the time. The app is horrible. Don’t go to this place you’re better off going anywhere else.

Equipment is in awful condition. Chest fly machine moves like it’s got Parkinson’s. Leg extensions thinks one of my legs is bigger than the other. No staff bother to try and keep things a bit tidy. Literally takes half your time finding the right dumbbell weights cos they everywhere.

Lockers still been taken up for months now. Hardly any larger lockers in the men’s changing room that are free, all had the same padlocks on them for a long long time. They put signs all over the locker rooms saying they were finally doing a padlock cut on Tuesday.
I arrived on Wednesday and it hadn’t been done and all the signs been taken down. Asked a member of staff why it hadn’t been done, was told it was now being delayed till Sunday night. We will see if it actually happens.
I also question what cleaning takes place. Last weekend, someone had left behind a T-shirt & towel hanging in the men’s locker room, it was there on Friday, still there Saturday and Sunday.
Also a jacket on top of the lockers by the vending machines has been there for weeks, so when does the cleaning actually take place?

they make the cancellation process extremely difficult ive emailed about cancelling my account and not heard back from them, so still being charged. the gym equipment in leeds kirkstall is old, the personal trainers are just there to pickup girls, its not so cheap anymore there are better value gyms with community

The kirkstall gym has people hogging the lockers! The entrance lockers are always taken & the male lockers room hardly has any spare lockers as ppl are keep the locks for themselves! As of 12/08/25 the problem is still the same if not getting worse!
