Honest, Trustworthy Mechanics You Can Rely On

I’ve been using this garage for years and I honestly wouldn’t trust my car with anyone else. Anthony, Nigel and Rich are the definition of what a good mechanic should be; knowledgeable, honest, and genuinely looking out for their customers rather than their wallets.

Recently, I was quoted an outrageous amount elsewhere for a repair that didn’t sit right with me. Instead of going ahead, I drove over 200 miles to bring the car back to them because I knew I could trust their judgement. As expected, they diagnosed the issue properly, explained everything clearly, and fixed it for a fraction of what I was being pushed to pay.

They never overcomplicate things, never upsell unnecessary work, and always take the time to make sure you understand what’s going on. It’s rare to find tradespeople with this level of integrity and skill.

If you want mechanics who are honest, reliable, and truly care about doing the right job, I can’t recommend Anthony, Nigel and Rich highly enough.

Trustworthy

A totally lovely bunch of people that work there, and I totally trust them on what needs to be done and not done to my car. Also fitted me in same day for a new tyre when had a puncture recently.

Avoid this place at all costs. Especially if you are female

I took my van for an MOT and service at KAM Servicing on Tamworth Road. I’d hoped that, being a fairly large company, I wouldn’t have to deal with the stereotypical treatment women often get from mechanics — but how wrong I was.

A few hours after dropping it off, they called claiming the van needed over £1,700 worth of work. The way they spoke to me was patronising from the start:
“oooh, I know you don’t want this just before Christmas”,
“it’s so bad, really bad, I wouldn’t want to be driving it”,
“you’ll need a backup plan because it’s hours of labour just to finish the service”…
…and then, as if doing me a favour, “but I’ve knocked £90 off for you.”

After being spoken to like a clueless woman who doesn’t understand her own vehicle, I ended the call and asked my partner to deal with them. When he spoke to the mechanic, he was told, “I tried to explain to her, but you know what it’s like — she probably has the stereo on too loud to hear all the banging.”

It’s 2026. The bar should be higher than this.

They were reluctant to let us collect the van, insisting again how “terrible” its condition was. We paid for the service they claimed to have started (though I doubt much was actually done, given they said they couldn’t complete it without the extra work), and took it elsewhere.

Surprise, surprise: it did not need £1,700 of repairs. The second garage completed the MOT and the only genuine repair for £400 total, and confirmed that most of what KAM Servicing tried to charge for was nonsense.

I took my car in for it's MOT and it…

I took my car in for it's MOT and it failed and needed work doing. I was told it'd be 550 to do, but upon speaking to other garages I was told by multiple that this was around 250 worth of work including MOT, I was charged twice for vat too and the trye they replaced was one I'd only replaced a month ago. Would never go back feel ripped off and mainly think it's because I was a young woman.

Excellent staff attitude

Going past Long Eaton branch 07.10 lights were on so called in and they fitted my new tyres while I waited despite not opening till 0800, many thanks saved me a lot of trouble

Booked my car in for a diagnostic check…

Booked my car in for a diagnostic check through the AA. When I arrived, they said the appointment had been cancelled so I called the AA and they said the garage didn’t tell them anything about it. Went back a few weeks later because they didn’t have any space for me. Issues with the car was that it was struggling to start and made a noise when speeding up. KAM said I needed a new clutch and timing chain, quoted £1700 just for the timing chain. I then took it to 2 different mechanics who said the issue with starting was just my glow plugs and the noise was my turbo that I didn’t know I had. No issue with timing chain (car is only at 80.000 miles) and clutch is worn but still has a lot of life. This garage was clearly trying to take advantage of me (18yrs old) and take my money. Do not use.

Super friendly and fast service…

I have been taking my car to Kam Servicing Long Eaton ( Derby Road) for 6 years, but today was a lovely surprise. They are professional, very efficient and nothing is too small of a job. Today on the off chance I stopped by to see if they could look at a screw in a tyre. Gaz was more than accommodating and this was repaired within 35 mins. To top this off and to show who they are… They completed this free of charge with a friendly “Merry Christmas”. A great end to a busy work day. Thank you Gaz.

Why didn't they check the tyre pressures properly?

Initially I was grateful that I was able to get two new tyres replaced on a wet Sunday afternoon. I was given a lift and collected from the boatyard where I was based when the work was done. It was suggested that I should have the tracking done, which I agreed to. Also apparently there was also a fault with the lambda sensor which I was unaware of. I agreed that this should be fixed and the sensor was repaired. The cost of the diagnosis was high. I was surprised how quickly the repair was done, with no new part. I trusted that I was being treated properly. My issues occurred when travelling north on the M1. The car kept pulling to the right and the Pilot Assist on my Volvo S90 failed to cope with it. I pulled into a service station to check the tyre pressures... nearside front 40 psi offside front 28 psi! No wonder the car was pulling! After adjusting the pressures to the correct pressures, the car behaved normally. After spending the best part of £600 for the work done, I feel that at least the tyre pressures could have been checked as a matter of course. I feel lucky that when travelling today the motorway was dry...and not awash as it was yesterday! Very disappointing!

Ask customer to do repair not necessary to pass MOT

I have used Kam servicing for a few times and servicing as well. However this time, they called me to replace both the brake pads in front for £375. When i asked them if i needed to pass my MOT then they said is an advice. In my opinion, they want us to do repair more rather than just MOT. Something is not necessary to pass MOT

Dishonest KAM Garage

KAM Garage – Long Eaton, Sawley

I took my BMW to KAM Garage in Long Eaton, Sawley, for an MOT. Shortly after, I received a call from them stating that my brake discs needed to be replaced and that my car would fail its MOT unless this was done.

However, I knew this was incorrect just four months earlier, I had new front brake pads fitted by an official BMW dealership. Additionally, my BMW service in September confirmed that the braking system was in excellent condition, with no advisories noted.

I refused to have the brakes replaced at KAM and later had my MOT completed by BMW, where my car passed without any issues or advisories related to the brakes. This clearly indicates that Kams Garage provided false information in an apparent attempt to charge for unnecessary repairs.

Also after collecting my car, I could smell smoke. Someone had been smoking in my car has a non-smoker. You can smell it straight away very disappointed and unprofessional.

I have been advised to report this matter to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) due to the concerning and potentially dishonest practices observed.

Customers should be aware and exercise caution when dealing with this garage. In my experience, KAM Garage attempted to mislead me into paying for work that was not required.
