My thanks to Laser Vision Scotland and especially Mr Jonathan Ross for guiding me back to see such rich colours in the environment. I had two cataract operations one week apart at Shawfair hospital and both times I was given expert treatment by the reassuring confident hands of Jonathan and the medical staff. Everyone was kind and helpful. Their approach was so professional and gentle with great consideration for the patient's comfort especially for an old guy like me in my eighties.

I had a cataract surgery by Mr Mantry at the Shawfair Hospital in Edinburgh
Two years ago, I had a cataract removed from my right eye after a long delay at a different hospital.
When my optician told me that a cataract had developed in my left eye, I discussed private care with him as an option to another long wait for treatment and I am so glad that I did. Mr Mantry was recommended by my eldest daughter who is a nurse and my initial consultation took place in early May. The entire team at the Shawfair from reception to examination in all aspects were excellent including their precautionary routines regarding Covid19 which were polite and professional.
In mid-June the cataract was removed at 8.30 a.m. and twenty-five minutes later I was enjoying tea & toast.
The difference between my two experiences of cataract removal cannot be under-estimated and the Mantry Team set the Gold Standard.
My only wish is that I had been told in advance that the eye would be anaesthetised by a tiny pill placed under my eyelid. No needle, as had happened two years before at a different place and was my major concern.

Everything was fully explained to me at the initial consultation.

I was able to explain what I was looking to get from the operation and the consultant, Mr Sanjay Mantry fully took this into account when telling me about he types of suitable lens.

At each step of the procedure everything was explained to me in detail and this helped me overcome any apprehension.

I am very happy with my vision following the 2 cataract operations.

Was so apprehensive going for surgery - how wrong was I? From the pre-op assessment to my discharge, I was well looked after and never felt uncomfortable. My eye was first dilated via a drop then was anaesthetised by a small pellet placed under my bottom eyelid - no needles in sight!

The operation itself took 10 minutes and all I could see was a light and some shadows. As soon as the new lense was placed in my eye, I could instantly see the tiniest detail.

Twenty minutes after the op I was on my way home with my little bottles of eyedrops.

A doctor gave me a courtesy call the next day and 4 weeks post op, I went for a check up where I was given the great news that surgery was a success and my eye had settled well.

I really can't praise highly enough all the staff involved. My only regret is that I wished the op was filmed so I could watch the skill of the surgeon.

I had cataracts removed by Mr Jonathon Ross at Kings Park Hospital. At the initial consultation the procedure was fully explained to me and all my queries answered. The types of suitable lens and cost was also discussed. At no time did I feel rushed or pressured. From start to finish Mr Ross and all the other staff who looked after me acted in a very professional, thoughtful and kind way. I am very happy with my improved vision and have no hesitation in recommending Laser Vision Scotland

I discussed cataract surgery with my optician who covered the pros and cons of private surgery. The private option seemed to be the way forward as the date, place and especially the surgeon was known. The short time between proceedings on each eye was also a benefit.
The assessment was very thoroughly completed by Mr Ross’s assistant and options were discussed and confirmed with Mr Ross who attended part of the consultation. I felt fully confident to go ahead with surgery after meeting and chatting to Mr Ross. Provisional dates for surgery were given at this meeting and surgery went ahead as planned.
I was impressed by the cleanliness of Kings Park and the room provided for me before and after surgery. All the staff who attended me were friendly, polite, professional and considerate of my hearing problems. Before I entered the operating theatre Mr Ross double checked the paperwork and made certain everything was in order before surgery. Anaesthetic was given by a drop, which I’m sure would reassure anyone nervous of needles. Being conscious throughout the surgery I found the procedure very interesting. I was fully aware of the need to keep as still as possible. The procedure took less than fifteen minutes. Instructions regarding eye drops and post surgery care were given clearly and in detail by the nursing staff. Vision from that eye was initially blurred but after twelve hours vision was better than pre-cataract and after four days vision was outstanding! I’d forgotten what white really looked like, my expectations were surpassed. Results were the same after the second surgery a week later.
However I have four concerns. Firstly my details were not taken correctly by Victoria and my paperwork was sent to the wrong address, which I only discovered when the occupier of that address telephoned me to say he had three letters from Kings Park. Secondly, I’m appalled that I had to remove my close fitting P3 valveless mask and replace it with an NHS approved surgical mask which had to be picked out of a box which anyone could have touched and breathed on. Thirdly, I phoned Kings Park a week after my second surgery because I had shooting pains in my eye. I could only obtain comfort by closing my eyes and laying flat on my back. I could find nothing in the brochure to explain my problem and was concerned that nobody got back to me. However after twenty four hours the issue resolved itself and my vision was not affected. My last concern was receiving an overdue account, via email, for the initial consultation. When I went for my surgery I mentioned that I hadn’t had that account (the surgeries were paid for in advance) I discovered that the invoice had been sent to the wrong address and when the email invoice arrived it too had the wrong address. When I received the invoice with the correct address it was paid immediately.
I would fully recommend Mr Ross, my experience has surpassed my expectations.

From making my first contact with Laser Vision right through the experience I feel as though I have been treated as a valued customer and treated with courtesy throughout. Any questions I had, no matter how small were discussed thoroughly with appropriate staff and any fears allayed.
Service was also very quick and from first contact to final operation only took 5 weeks.
I would recommend their service to anyone thinking about any type of eye surgery.

I am extremely happy with my treatment at Kings Park Hospital from Mr Mantry. Everything went well and I have been to my optician and everything was great, I now have new glasses and can read the bottom line of the chart, brilliant job, thanks very much, Alastair Young

The reason i have given 5 star is This eye operation is the most wonderful result i have ever experienced.
I cannot rate this enough just to have my eye sight back without wearing specs every day. I do have to wear them for reading but that was my choice to do so.
If there is anyone out there afraid as I was HONESTLY there is nothing to worry about. I had both my eyes done 1 week apart but after the first eye was done I could have gone back the next day to have my second eye done that's how good and confident i felt . My consultant Mr. Ross was just wonderful and made me feel so relaxed both times. If anyone out there is afraid PLEASE don't be it is a brilliant eye surgery with great results.

My optician advised that I had Cataracts and should not drive. As I need to be able to drive, I could not wait for NHS so went to Rosshall hospital.

My consultant, arranged for me to have both eyes done, one week apart.

While I was very apprehensive, I was well looked after and the procedure went very smoothly.

I can now drive, without wearing glasses, and while I require glasses for reading, that is no problem.

I would highly recommend Laser Vision Scotland.

I was totally satisfied with all aspects of my treatment at Ross Hall. This covers the initial examination, the information provided to the proposed operation and the post operative care. In addition I would commend Mr Mantry, whom I have no hesitation in recommending, for putting me totally at ease prior to and during the operation, and for the operation itself which has been a total success.
