I chose to enroll in the Applied Instructional Design Academy (AIDA) largely because of the expertise of its founder, Jill Davidian, and the program's length, and I'm really glad I did. The nine-month structure provides enough time to build a solid foundation in adult learning principles and actually apply them, not just learn them about them at a surface level.

The program emphasizes the full instructional design process. I worked through real projects end-to-end: identifying learning gaps, writing measurable objectives, mapping content, and developing design documents and storyboards. The iterative assignments and detailed mentor feedback closely reflect how ID work actually happens.

There's also strong hands-on experience with tools like Articulate 360, along with optional courses in Vyond and Camtasia and exposure to ILT and VILT design. I also found the flexible cohort (pod) model to be a great source of support and encouragement.

One standout strength is the range of resources available: clear, step-by-step video tutorials, sample portfolios, advanced tool training, and content that addresses the mindset side of career transitions. Networking opportunities and expert-led events further extended the learning experience for me.

The career support provided after program completion is especially strong. It includes guidance on resume writing, portfolio development, and LinkedIn optimization; structured preparation for interviews and hiring processes; and opportunities to participate in mock interviews and roundtable sessions with detailed, targeted feedback. Access to a knowledgeable, experienced Career Services Specialist with direct connections to hiring managers and recruiters was a real advantage, and one I found indispensable.

Overall, this program provided not just training, but a comprehensive transition pathway into instructional design. As someone moving from higher education into ID, I found the sustained support, expert guidance, and engaged alumni community to be invaluable. I'm quite grateful that I made the investment.

AIDA (Applied Instructional Design Academy) is an outstanding, comprehensive program that provides everything needed for a successful career pivot into instructional design. The curriculum offers deep-dive training in the industry's most popular authoring tools and adult learning theory, while guiding students through the entire end-to-end design process to create a professional portfolio. Beyond the technical skills, AIDA excels at fostering networking opportunities both within and outside its community and provides a fully supported job search process that truly sets its students up for success. I am incredibly glad to be an alum of such an active, lifelong support group and highly recommend AIDA to anyone looking to enter the field.

Taking the AIDA course was one of the most strategic decisions I made during my career pivot into instructional design. This program is the reason I am able to transition into working as an instructional designer, coming from the public education as a teacher and curriculum specialist. AIDA took me from k-12 educator to a real professional Instructional Designer in just 9 months. It was hard work but with the step-by-step guidance, I became a paid Instructional Designer just 6 months after my certification completion. Now, I work from home and love it!

They really do stick with you after you finish the course to ensure you have the support you need in the job search.

If you are looking into the Instructional Design field, I would highly recommend the AIDA program. If you are a teacher who is desperate to leave the classroom, I would double the high recommendation!!
There is continued support throughout the entire program and opportunities for more support after the 9-month program ends. The cohort groups are invaluable. The more active and involved you are in the group meetings and coaching calls, the more you will get out of the program. This was an investment that has been well worth every dollar spent.

I can't say enough about how exceptional the Applied Instructional Design Academy program is. It is very well run, well-thought out and executed with quality and integrity. AIDA is a very supportive environment to be able to learn and grow. It has incorporated end-to-end support from learning new skills, developing a positive mindset and networking all the way through the job search and landing a position within the instructional design field.

While AIDA did many things well, in the end, despite my completing everything with fidelity and following their guidance, I didn't find that the promises lived up to reality. The potential salaries were much lower than indicated, and the number of graduates successfully transitioning is much lower (and the process and timeline) much more grueling and longer than realistic, given the significant financial investments made.

This program is exceptional! The support, quality of material and resources from Kick Start through your first paycheck are unmatched. Coaches, working instructional designers, and even hiring managers provide guidance every step of the way, and the relationships you build with others in your cohort are invaluable.

Learning Strategy and Design has a great program. I feel confident in starting a new career as an instructional designer. It was a fun, self-paced course that I enjoyed with lots of support. I loved the people in my cohort group and am still friends with them today. I highly recommend it!

The program is well scaffolded and is self paced. You definitely get out what you put into it. I was highly motivated and worked extremely hard and am very pleased that I just accepted a positon in the field after only 3 months of applying in one of the most competitive job markets! Not only that, I had 2 other offers to choose from. The support from start to closure and beyond is noncomparable and I am so happy I selected this program for myself over the other options out there.

AIDA was exactly what I needed to transition my teaching job into a career I find joy in. The whole program was full of scaffolding and support, making it virtually impossible not to succeed! In addition, I was able to make connections and friendships with people all over the states going through the program with me. I feel totally prepared and ready for this next chapter of my career life. AIDA is with me the entire way, even after I have graduated. Their Career Services is there to help me with the next phase of the program: getting a job! It was worth every penny and minute I spent on it.

I wanted to get back into corporate training after 20 years. Everything had changed including the name. I wasn't sure where to start, but I found AIDA. It was a great experience. I enjoyed learning and working with great people on the same path. AIDA opened instructional design up for me.

This whole process of transitioning was successful due to being a part of this program. I could have figured out some things on my own, but I would have never been able to guide myself through the structure this program provided. It was scaffolded perfectly to push... then move small steps forward. Each part I left with the skills and knowledge needed to add on to. This program provided people that supported me and gave me confidence when I needed it most. They assist you on the mental aspects of transitioning which I think many people do not see as a major part of the pivot.
