Update: I had a pretty bad first experience but since then they have been really helpful dealing with RoyalMail's idiocy. RoyalMail otoh seem to be incapable of delivering letters in any sort of... Toon meer

I found the document upload interface and postage process with Modernmail to be very unclear and confusing. There were no clear instructions or guidance, which made the whole experience frustrating. To make matters worse, there is no contact phone number available anywhere on their site, and no online chat option to get immediate help.
I sent an email inquiry and waited for three days without any kind of response-not even an automated acknowledgment. This lack of communication is unacceptable for any company handling important mail services. Additionally, there is no company address listed, and the domain registrant details are masked by a proxy, which raises concerns about transparency.
I tried to research the company on Companies House and found a possible link to an individual on LinkedIn with some computer experience, but no mention of Modern Mail. However, after my experience, I have no confidence in the company’s professionalism or reliability.
Due to all these issues, I was forced to look elsewhere for a more trustworthy and responsive mailing service.

Why do companies provide bad or poor customer service, then only respond once you make a complaint? Don't they realise that effective marketing and cost effective marketing is just simply good customer service? Amateurs.

This is such a nifty idea, to be able to upload a letter and have it printed and sent from within the UK! One of my friends said it's like a telegram for the modern age.
I've used Modernmail twice, and both times it has been really smooth and affordable. It's inexpensive and, in my limited experience, very reliable. And it helps me to keep me in touch with my older relatives who don't enjoy online communication.

Simple way to send a letter. Im in UAE and when I need to contact HMRC I prefer a letter. With this I upload, pay and send.
Site works well, without all the marketing stuff that bigger sites have.

Modern Mail helped me a lot with great convenience. I am not able to come to the UK for now. The letters arrived right on time and everything got resolved. Modern Mail is such a brilliant service; simple yet highly effective. I haven't owned a printer for years (does anyone anymore?!) and as I work full-time, finding the time to go to the post office has always been such a hassle. With Modern Mail, I don't have to worry about the arduous process of finding a printer and picking up stamps (which I know sounds like a simple thing to do but life always gets in the way), as they do it all for me.
The service also has a lovely customer service team who have even helped my mum, who isn't a big fan of technology, send multiple letters.
I will definitely be using Modern Mail again!

1. No copy of the document or recipient's address provided
I was disappointed that your service doesn't include an option to send a copy of the uploaded document along with the recipient's address to the sender's email for confirmation. This feature would be invaluable, especially for those wanting to use the service as proof of posting a particular document.
While I understand the need to avoid storing documents and addresses for GDPR compliance, you could implement a system where the document and address are emailed to the sender (along with a reference or tracking number) and then promptly deleted from your servers. This approach would provide users with a reliable record of their transaction without breaching data protection rules. Without such a feature, the service feels significantly less practical for my needs.
2. No document preview or cancellation option
I was also slightly confused by the lack of a preview option after uploading the document. Perhaps I missed it, but it seems very easy to accidentally upload the wrong file. In my view, verifying the document before sending is critical.
I assumed there would be a preview or at least an option to review the upload later in the process (after payment). However, I discovered that once payment is made, there’s no way to preview or cancel the order. This lack of flexibility could lead to unnecessary errors and frustration for users.

I’ve been using this service regularly for the past few months, and I honestly can't recommend it enough. It makes sending important documents so much easier. Instead of going to the post office, I just upload the file, choose the delivery option, and they take care of everything from there. It’s such a time-saver, especially when I’m busy with work.
I’ve used it for sending both personal and business-related documents, and the service has always been reliable. I receive an email with the tracking information promptly after sending, which has been great. I then use the tracking link to confirm the delivery. I’ve had to use the Special Delivery option a couple of times for urgent items, and everything arrived on time without any issues.
What I really appreciate is how straightforward the whole process is. I had a minor question once about my delivery, and customer service got back to me quickly with a helpful answer. It’s good to know that there’s real support behind the service if you need it.
One improvement I would like to see if the option to send the same letter to multiple addresses, rather than having to repeat the process for each new recipient.
If you need to send letters or documents without the hassle of doing it all yourself, this service is perfect. It’s simple, reliable, and has definitely made my life easier.

Have used modernmail a couple of times now and very impressed so far. I can construct a letter and upload it to their site and send it. I've used the signed for first class and recieved royal mails tracking number so I can see when it was recieved. Faultless and highly recommend.
