Would have given 5 stars however the courier company let the process down, they delayed delivery, left the package just over the fence by our front gate, then put on their on line delivery note that I... Toon meer

Mylands is the most trusted name in the film and theatre industries for paints and wood finishes, and is a preferred choice for Royal residences, art galleries, architects, and interior designers. Once a closely guarded secret among professionals, in 2012 they launched their first commercial range - Colours of London - a curated palette of 120 richly pigmented shades that brought Mylands’ signature depth and quality to homeowners and private clients. Dedicated to craftsmanship and quality, Mylands have created paints and wood finishes with a richness and finish to stand apart - thanks to their commitment to using only the finest materials. Mylands continues to manufacture its colours and polishes in the heart of London, and is proud to be the city’s last remaining paint manufacturer. Family remains at the centre of the business. Today, John Myland’s great-grandson, Dominic Myland, leads the company. A trained wood polisher, Dominic has championed innovation while staying true to traditional values, most notably through the development of Mylands’ plant-based paint formulations.

Due to issues with the delivery company the paint took a week to arrive, however is here now. A lovely shade of Lobster 🦞 and am looking forward to painting the inside of my front door as a focal point

Very low quality paint – even four coats did not cover our walls and we had to buy more paint from a different brand to complete the job

The paint quality is first class and the tin was delivered promptly and very well packaged.
I bought the fast drying wood stain in English Walnut for a cabinet. It was very easy to apply evenly, despite the super quick drying time. The coverage was excellent and the colour was true to the picture. It was delivered less than 24 hours after ordering. Very happy with the product.
Efficient and good communication considering I’d only ordered a sample pot. Great company
Prompt , first class service and best quality paint out there. Beautiful colour. Can't wait for my living room to be drenched in luxury!
Excellent, seamless transaction. Great communication. Five stars.
It was easy to order and unlike most things these days - it arrived when they said it would arrive. And it is just the most perfect colour - I love it.
My family of wood restorers and I have been using Mylands for over 100 years. I personally have spent over £10,000 with them. My Grandfather and I bought the last stock of dutch gold metal powders before their Marables branch closed down in Shoreditch in the 1980s.
Who recently bought up the last of their water powder dyes? Around £500 worth? That would be me again.
I still remember my Mylands starter kit tub I got at The London School of Furniture in the early 1990s.
I have used Mylands wood finishes for decades, including at the Houses of Parliament for several years.
I advertise, free, Mylands on my website, on my blogs and in thousands of forum and reddit posts. I most probably have been responsible for tens of thousands of pounds of Mylands purchases. I have literally witnessed thousands of pounds of purchases from my customers whilst I am on the job!
Recently I found out that my 40% trade discount had been cancelled. When I enquired a young man got back to me, told me it was because I hadn't ordered for a year, and started talking about "collaborations" presumably on social media, seemingly unaware that I am possibly the most read person in the UK when it comes to wood finishing. Doesn't seem that bright.
Scott Drayton, owner of Morrells (the largest wood finishing manufacturer in the UK) contacted me personally to discuss my website and the issues I had, then arranged my discount. Maximum respect, and Mylands gets a herbert to speak to me. Ironically Scott gave me a 60% discount but I virtually never use it! Most of the finishes I buy are traditional so I am more inclined towards Jenkins and Mylands. FYI I get no fixed discount at Jenkins, they seem to work on a barter system as they seem stuck in the 1930's, which is quite charming. Jenkins will do deals though and their guys are incredibly knowledgeable technically.
The overly w***y marketing spiel on this very site underneath the Mylands logo says that "Dominic is a trained wood polisher".Interesting. Somehow that rings hollow, doesn't seem to value wood polishers, some of whom have great grandfathers who bought products from their own great grandfathers. Seems like a lot of marketing twaddle about 'craftsmanship' and 'tradition' and 'family', but in reality, not so much.
And whilst we are at it, yes, Mylands traditional wax still is a great wax, with the highest canauba content, but please stop the 'made to Gedges 1884 recipe'. Since you removed the expensive gum turpentine it smells horrible, like briwax. So, not exactly the same. Something you would notice if you had been using the product for over quarter of a century. Meanwhile, Jenkins' Harrells wax still contains gum turpentine so smells much nicer. Both are good but Mylands seems to do more talking than they do walking.
They only had a record of my purchases since 2022 or something. I used to buy shellac 50 litres at a time, I did that probably 5 to 10 times, so, overall, not a bad customer I think.
Eventually he got back to me with a 20% discount. He was going to arrange it with their partner website, but he forgot to get back to me when prompted.
When calling no one has a clue about wood finishes anymore.
So. To recap. A century of patronage. Tens of thousands of pounds of free advertising, purchases and purchases via recommendation. In response, my discount is halved. And some random person tries to talk to me about "collaboration" not realising I have made more money for their company than anyone they work with today, and then fails to get back to me and fulfil his promise to set up my discount on Restorate.
I continue to use their shellacs and waxes because they are still very high quality but whoever is running the company has dumped on their wood finishing heritage and moved into paint and interior design with a very young and superficial trendy vibe.
Where possible I shall be moving to Jenkins who are the best for traditional wood finishing products.
In fact, I just made a £600 order with Jenkins whilst their random bod was thinking about my discount.
Very sad.
I shall be updating my website articles (viewed over 1 million times since 2006) and advising people accordingly.
This is a rant they will actually see but for everyone else my advice hasn't changed, Mylands shellacs and waxes are top quality but for more modern lacquers I would advise Morrells or Jenkins and if you actually want technical advice I would advise Jenkins. In fairness, you have to order Morrells from wood finishes direct online. It takes time but you can eventually get great technical advice from them. Jenkins have the best advice and largest range of traditional finishing products.
If you know exactly what you want and you can find it on their janky website then go for Mylands, otherwise, also check out Jenkins or Morrells.
I tried to be fair guys.
The range of paint colours is second to none. The order process is really clear, simple and easy to use. You can see exactly what you are buying before you push the purchase button. The products are excellent.Delivery is very fast. None of it is cheap but certainly you get what you pay for. Will buy again for sure.
Try and cancel an order, in less than 10 minutes after ordering (granted I ordered in error on their website), but told my paint had been mixed already. Come on! Ridiculous! Be very careful when you use their website!
