The up-side: It works up to 150 feet away if you have a clear line of sight. The down-side: The collar disks usually stop working when you take the old battery out to replace it. Once they are dead, you cannot revive them. Be prepared to spend $30 for replacement disks quite frequently. For me this is worth it, but it shouldn't have to be like this.

Tabcat is ok as long as the tags keep working. Once they stop even if you change the battery they often don't work again. The old Loc8ator tags were much stronger and better than the flimsy round tags which can also split easily. I now have 8 tags that don't work and will be posting them to the company - (they might be able to re-vamp them or re-cycle them! As I have 3 cats it means I also have to purchase a new tracker as well so I can register the tag (I already have two of them!). I have been with this company for some years now - but can't wait to find another that produces a similar and more reliable product or, hopefully this company will go back to the original design. (Plus, Tabcat - don't offer to have my items back to check on - because that leaves me without any tracking device.)

Don't find the new disc shaped tab cat nearly as good as the old "lozenge" shaped tag which fitted very neatly onto the collar and didn't move or "flap" around like the round disc. Really disappointed that the old lozenge shape is no longer available, and the product itself is so great and works really well - the delivery system for cats has just gone wrong.

Both of our trackers stopped working after a few days due to battery problems. After changing the battery, the problem occurred again after a few days. Non responsive customer service.

Excellent tracker, I can now keep tabs on all 3 of my cats very simply. The low level beep emitted by tracker did not upset any of my cats.

A life saver. Found my kitties so many times - whether because I just haven't seen them recently or because I really can't find them. Such peace of mind.

The range is not as good as a GPS obviously, but they're smaller and more comfortable (no problem with any of my cats accepting wearing it - from the petite to the panthers), as well as more accurate for when they're hiding in a cupboard or under a bush.

The tabcat locator is very accurate! Even when my cats lose their collar due to fighting with other cats, I've managed to find it. It gives a comforting feeling knowing that you'll find your cat. It's important to know where your cat hangs out so that you don't have to start looking at random. We live in a very rural and forested, overgrown area so the tracker doesn't work at 122 meters, but more at 60meters or sometimes less. Tabcat mentions this in the instructions so I knew what to expect. I'm not rating 5 stars because the protective cases tend to tear quite fast when you have a more than average adventurous cat. One of my cats lost his homing tag because the protective case was torn when he came home. This time I didn't succeed in finding the homing tag. I've had tree torn protective cases in about 3 months. Now I use ducktape to make sure they won't tear apart. If you could provide a stronger kind of cases that would make me very happy!

This review is aimed at the company not the product which is ok. Tabcat is the most unreliable and unresponsive company I have ever had dealings with. See below.
1 Ordered the Loc8tor product at 14:50 on a Thursday along with next day delivery (£8.99), next day delivery being promised as long as order is placed by 15:00
2 Order confirmation received immediately at 14:50
3 Tabcat handed product to courier the following day (Friday) and it was delivered the following Monday afternoon.
4 Wrote 2 emails to Tabcat requesting refund of next day delivery charge. There has been no response other than an automated “Thank you for your email” response.
5 Telephoned Tabcat twice around 15:00 of the day following delivery (Tuesday). All I got was a recorded message saying they are closed and that their normal office hours are 09:00 – 17:30 Monday through Friday.

Got this couple of weeks ago for my 17 year old cat who I think has dementia and has gone quite deaf. He had started wandering a bit but hates staying indoors. One night I got in from work and he wasn't in. The tabcat didn't bleep in our back yard or the area behind. I went upstairs and held the bleeper out of my front bedroom window and it immediately bleeped. I thought that was odd he would never go out the front or cross the busy road...however just as I got outside I saw him sauntering across the road completely unaware of cars approaching. I ran along the pavement waving my arms and shouting at the drivers. One swerved and the next braked to avoid him. I managed to catch him - and now he is an indoor cat and can only go out with supervision. I feel the Tabcat saved his life.

I purchased the tab cat and received two disks as promised. Followed the setup directions. Both discs stopped working after a short period of time. I contacted customer service via email TWICE and never heard back.

Keep looking for another product. This product and company are a total waste of time and money.

I have a cat with congenital cataracts so thought this would be great at keeping track of him outside. The first tracker lasted 2 months and was great to turn it on and find him hiding in bushes, then he came in without his collar and handset wouldn't pick it up, luckily I found it in my garden. Clearly the battery had given up after a short time, there is NO warning when battery is low. So I put the second one on (brand new as removed the battery slip from the tracker, was working fine for one day, came in no collar, no signal, this has never been located. I ordered new batteries and collar and changed batteries in the original tracker and the handset. Perfect it was picking it up with very strong signal.Next evening, he came in, no collar so I went out and it was picking it up on the handset as medium contact. But was too windy to hear it beeping and too dark to see. Next morning, signal was gone. 2 collars, 2 trackers in 4 days GONE! Bulk order of batteries purchased so they could be changed once a month, what a waste. Do not waste your money on this tracker, there is no warning sign of battery getting low and the handset is very basic and not reliable, as I have just found out. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

The cat locator has been a God send for my two cats Teddy and Dougal.. Especially for my kitten Teddy who is now seven months old. Stopped me panicking when he was hiding in cupbpards in the house and later when he started wandering into other gardens. Managed to locate him in a neighbours bedroom after he wandered into their house and up the stairs and it also saved his life when he got stuck behind another neighbours shed. Without the locator we would have never found him! Thank you so much for coming up with this brilliant invention.

I love this device. Bought from Sydney, Australia. No ongoing fees and it works perfectly. Has found my cat every time. Turns out he loves hiding under the neighbour's house. He lost one tag after several months and now I'm onto the second - not surprising since he is such a rough and tumble cat - so it was so handy that the pack comes in two. Enormous peace of mind for me all round and highly recommend it for all cat owners.

I am very pleased with this product. I have traced my runaway cat several times. No problems with the silicon cases. When the tabs stopped working I phoned their office and was immediately and fully helped. Most impressed by both the product and the service. AND remember that there are no monthly fees to pay as there are in other cat tracking systems.

New tracker is badly designed. Old version is vastly superior.
These are the problems with the new circular tags in comparison to the previous version which was much better:
- Tag is too fragile, battery is easily dislodged and tag stops working. Old version never had this problem and was much sturdier.
- Tag easily falls apart and stops working. Old version never had this problem. Old version never had this problem and was much sturdier
- Tag too big, I cannot use them except on our largest cat who is over 6kg. It's too big for the other smaller cats. Also, it's less comfortable as it digs under their chin and neck. Old version was much smaller, more discrete and did not stick out under the cats chin and neck.
- Silicon protective case tears easily. Old version had case which was much more resilient.
- Tag randomly disconnects from handset and has to be paired with handset again. Old version never had this problem.
- Flashing LED cannot be seen through the case. Old version had clear cases so LED can still be seen from a distance.
- New tags are not as water resistant. Old tags weren't perfect but were better and could survive a day or so if lost in the open and have better success with locating and recovering, whilst i've never been able to recover any of the new tags when lost.
- New tags are easily lost due to the above issues.
Unless the product is improved, once I lose the remaining tags, I won't be buying any more. Old product was not perfect, but was a great product and I was happy to use it. New tags are a complete disappointment and is a massive backwards step in design and feature.

Update 21/09/2018 - Another tag lost. This one lasted 1.5 months, which is slightly better than the last one of less than 1 month. Once lost there is just no chance of recovering them as these new tags are so fragile.

I ordered the Tabcat pack with 2 trackers, which arrived very quickly and both devices paired to the handset without problem.
I have since tried to test the Tabcat while my two cats have been away from the house in order to be sure it works. Each time the Tabcat has had no success in locating my pets, despite at one time my cat being less than 10ft away from me behind a wooden fence. I have consistently managed to find my cats before the Tabcat has picked up a signal.
I have tried to persevere and have tried replacing the batteries, but to no avail. On two occasions, the handset has managed to 'forget' the tab assigned to button #2 and I have had to pair the devices again.
Tabcat claim to have a '30-day refund' on their products, so I contacted them at the email address they supplied, with the intention of gaining a returns number. No response. I contacted them again, still no response. It's now been 3 weeks with no contact, which is completely unacceptable. I would urge others not to trust this brand.

I received my TabCat order this morning and was very excited about giving this a go, seeing as my 4 year old cat has recently stopped coming home so much.
I'm due to move home with him soon, so I wanted him to be comfortable with the device prior to our move.

Paring the first device took a few attempts, but after going over the instructions a couple of times, worked as expected. I gave the locator and remote a few tries around the house and was pleasantly surprised.
It does have a 'metal detector' sort of feel to it, but regardless, it worked!

I then put the tag on my cat's collar, a little apprehensive about whether it would bother him or not. He didn't bat an eyelid! He also had an ID tag and bell on his collar so I placed it on the side and he didn't even notice.
I tried the device whilst the cat was outside and I was in the house and it worked like a treat!

Now this bit may be coincidence.. but if this keeps up, I'll be a very satisfied customer as I was beginning to get frustrated with my cat outright ignoring me!
I pressed the button on the remote that bleeps and according to the website 'you can train your cat with'. Well, I was out of site and as soon as my cat heard the bleeping, he looked around and came right back into the house ready for his treats! I tried it a few more times from different areas of the house and garden and every time he came back to me.

Hopefully, I won't ever have to use the device for what it's meant for, but I feel significantly reassured now, thanks TabCat :)

Depuis 2 ans j'utilise tab cat. Cependant cela revient très cher. La télécommande a cassé .J'avais racheté des badges (3 qui étaient sur la télécommande précédente et impossible de les reprogrammer sur la nouvelle) . Au final il faut racheter encore les badges....Le budget devient ahurissant par années....

I have used tabcat (used to be Petloc8tr) for about 6 years and cannot imagine being without it. The challenge I have has been brought up in other reviews. The flimsy silicon case that holds the tag on the cats collar is a disaster. It is easily torn by the cats scratching or wrestling with one another. At 30$ a pop - they are too precious to rely upon the cheesy holders. Does anyone know of a facsimile or DIY solution?

What do I think would be a better tab protector? I am not certain what type of material, but the silicone is extremely easy to tear. The old version of the holder (the sort of clear lozenge shape) was great. I never had a problem with that cover. Now that the tab is round, you have to use the flimsy silicone one. We have already destroyed two and counting.

I think the material that you are using needs to be thicker and more durable. Or - just offer free replacement covers/sen extras. I am hesitant to spend $10.00 for new covers, because they will just get ripped up again. I did coat the old silicon covers with super glue gel, which is still holding pretty well. The tabs have not fallen out of the covers since then. NOTE: I did not glue the tab in the cover! I simply repaired all of the tears in the cover with super glue gel, and after it dried, I put the tabs back in.

Long and short - I *ADORE* Tabcat - but the design and implementation of the covers really missed the mark.

I have used loc8tor since 2010 when they were the lozenger shaped units, I still have 1 that is brilliant and still works perfectly, I now have 4 cats and bought the new round version but dissapointed with those is an understatment, the battery life is none existant, we tried the most expensive extra life batteries we could buy, and I was still having to change them every couple of days, with the old version if the collar came off we could track and retrieve it but not with the newer ones. I have had to buy 6 tags in the last 18 months but I have given up and I am now trying a different tracker.
