Contaminated Spirulina without certificate?
Bought a pack of spirulina from H&B.
Had 1/3 of the dose they recommend per day, didnt feel too well so wanted to check if their product is checked for contaminants (which for this product is more than one might think).
I emailed support who were very polite, to get the certificate of analysis which they say they can provide.
Yet , multiple months and excuses later, no certificate has been provided.
I can only conclude they are sourcing cheap product that is not properly tested.
Note as well their recommended dose is 3x the max dose recommended by WHO/CDC if you end up doing your research.

Your review is misinformed, and we would like to address a few points.
First, regarding safety and testing:
All of our spirulina is sourced from approved suppliers and is routinely tested for contaminants. This includes screening for aflatoxins, ochratoxins, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), microbiological contaminants, and a full pesticide residue panel, heavy metals. These tests are conducted in accordance with food regulations to ensure the product meets safety and quality standards.
Which is what I informed you when you first contacted us.
In addition, whenever we introduce a new product, we register it with local authorities. As part of this process, the product is reviewed for compliance, and authorities may advise on labelling, safety, and intake recommendations and there is on back of pack recommendation intake suggestions. Our spirulina complies with all applicable regulatory requirements.
Regarding the Certificate of Analysis (CoA):
We acknowledge your frustration with the delay. While we do provide CoAs upon request, these documents are batch-specific and sometimes require additional time to retrieve from accredited laboratories. This delay is not indicative of a lack of testing or product quality, and we apologise that this was not communicated more clearly but you were informed that we were chasing for this document and I have been in the background.
On dosage and guidance:
The World Health Organization (WHO) does not set an official Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for spirulina. However, WHO has recognised spirulina as a safe and beneficial food supplement, particularly in the context of nutrition and micro nutrients. Intake recommendations can vary depending on the individual, formulation, and intended use.
For this reason, we clearly advise on the packaging that spirulina should be introduced gradually, allowing the body time to adjust. Some individuals may experience temporary digestive or detox-related effects when first using spirulina, especially if sensitive or taking it for the first time.
Finally, we strongly refute the suggestion that our product is “cheap” or untested. Product safety, compliance, and transparency are priorities for us, and we stand behind the quality of our spirulina.
I have chased the relevant parties for the CoA again and once I have the document I will send it to you.

Old stock sent?
I normally buy their Cacao powder from my local supermarket and have been happy with that product. Recently, they sent me a mailshot offering their Brainbox am elevate at half price so went for it. Bought three packets of it to avoid the carriage cost. They arrived yesterday, September 19th 2025. The BBE date on the packets were Oct 2025. I won't be buying goods online again from this company, even though they've sent me another discount code to use.

I am sorry you were not aware of the short dated stock but it was mentioned both in the promotional email and on the webpage that the stock is short dated at BBE Oct 2025 hence the promotional price. As this is a Best Before Date this means the product is optimal before this date but can still be consumed after this date especially if the pouches are kept sealed until you are ready to consume. I had a bad experience with their product 'Gut Feel' flax seed blend, Mixed Berry. I popped into the smoothie and let the powder do its thing. But after 10-15 minutes, I noticed some intense itching on my hands and ankles, it was actually very painful,and I was scratching the skin off that I called my GP. So I stopped using it and the itching stopped too. Unsure which ingredient in the powder it was but I won't buy it again.

We have not received any direct communication from you regarding this issue but we want to reassure you that at Naturya we operate an accredited Food Safety Management System, part of which is an extensive testing programme where batches of product we receive undergo positive release testing on a risk-assessed basis. Batches are tested at an independent UKAS-accredited laboratory, whereby we confirm that all microbiological, heavy metal and pesticide residue data and other analyses as appropriate for the product are fully compliant with legal Food Safety requirements and with our own product specifications for safety and quality. On the back of our packaging you are able to review all allergens highlighted in bold. We are not qualified to issue advice on the suitability of our products for specific medical problems but if you are able to contact us directly using the form on our website we can better investigate your individual experience, as you made a smoothie with the product and other unknown ingredients, ultimately it is hard to identify our product as the sole reason for your reaction without knowing what else went into your smoothie.
