Night Owl products to keep Mom Safe
I originally would have given Night Owl a great review because the system worked well and gave me peace of mind. Unfortunately, my experience with customer support has completely changed my opinion.
I purchased this system so I could monitor my mom, who has dementia, and help keep her safe while I wasn't home. A few weeks ago my cameras stopped recording, and because I have a busy, stressful life, I had forgotten my password. I contacted support to reset it, only to be told they couldn't help because I no longer have my original sales receipt.
I've now spent 3–4 weeks calling repeatedly. Each time I'm told someone will contact me the next day, but no one ever does. Meanwhile, my security system remains unusable, and I can't monitor my mom the way I bought it to do.
What is most frustrating is that I was never told when I purchased the system that if I ever forgot my password and didn't have the original receipt, the entire system could effectively become unusable. Had I known that, I would have chosen a different brand from the start.
It's incredibly disappointing that a legitimate customer who spent hundreds of dollars on a security system can't get help regaining access to their own device. It now looks like I'll have to spend another $500 replacing the entire system with a different company just to restore the protection my family needs.
The product itself was good while it worked, but customer support has been extremely disappointing. I hope Night Owl reconsiders its policies and communication because customers shouldn't lose access to a security system they've legitimately purchased over a forgotten password and a missing receipt.

Trying to change admin, which requires me to upload Device UID info and purchase receipt. I have done that 9 times and the customer service people say they never receive. They do not accept FAXes. One Customer Rep admitted they are having technical problems with their email. I have used two different email addresses to send. I have called them 5 times, getting different customer rep each time. Always wait 45 minutes on hold. Last call after 40 minutes they sent me to a VM. I do not expect a call back. One time the phone connection became garbled and they hung up on me. One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.

That is of course if you can ever get to talk to live person after being on hold for an a hour. This company is awful and they don’t support their products or care about customers issues. Pick a different brand of camer.

The first time I bought one it was good for my restaurant. The second time I bought it 13 months before I opened and it sat in the box for 10 months. 3 months after usage it stopped working but it was past the 1 year warranty so the response I got was nothing they could do. Buyer be ware.

It's been 3 months and no responses.

I have a ticket number for months and I either get no response from them, or I call and it has to be elevated to another support member who NEVER EVER RESPONDS!!
I sent ALL DOCUMENTATION requested and still NO response.
Looks like I will have to throw out the cameras along with the DVR as these cameras are locked to certain specific DVR's.
AKA - Night Owl (onvif doesn't matter here)
Thank you for not being their for your customer.
I will never buy from your company again.
I will make it my life mission to make a campaign to educate everyone about how your equipment is locked out of using it with other DVR's (whether pentabrid or other models)
It's NOT FREE when you can not get support!

Yesterday, I switched wifi providers. I transferred two laptops, two phones and two TV's to the new wifi. It took less than 15 minutes. Then comes night owl. I couldn't find the menu choice that searches for wifi networks, like all the other items do so I called night owl support. They informed me I had to disassemble my entire system so I can place the cameras close to the new router. That will take most of my day.
Save yourself this insanity and buy a different system!

The tech continued to tell be i dont know what a internet cable is, she would repeat the step and when I told her ok, I have entered the code, she said, you dont know the code and would make noises on the phone in disgust. I have called and worked with technical support representative and found the unit is defective. I keeps going Offline and then it will reboot on its own. This will put it in a loop where it will keep rebooting until the power is unplugged. The support personnel have not gotten back to be to resolve the issues. This was reported over a month ago. I have been on a call hold waiting for support to answer - 15 minutes
Downgraded from Arlo
Bought the camera system for my house. While under warranty the hard drive was replaced twice. Out of warranty I bought a used one online. All are constantly disconnecting from the app. When it does that it makes me download a different version of the app. Mainly either the osp or x. Never know. Total garbage. Thought I was upgrading from Arlo but now it seems I went downhill.

I was on hold two hours today before someone came on the line now I’m still having the same problems. They need to get someone employed that know what they’re doing this is the worst customer service. I have experience.

Worst of the worse. They do not stand behind their products and the warranty is a joke. Customer service, if you can get someone who you can understand, takes hours to get live on the phone. The software with the system is incredibly bad and next to impossible to pull up previous events for viewing. Worst decision I ever made buying a product from Night Owl.

I would not recommend buying from this company, I purchased a camera from them, it didn’t work so They sent me a return label, I sent it back to them, they still haven’t refunded or contacted me in weeks, the email I got from them them after the 3rd week was general and didn’t answer my question which was, why you have had the camera back for 4 weeks now and I still have No Refund?. I think they are criminals and have also reported them to the BBB Honestly I doubt they care about reputation from the look of things here.

I had the series FTD for Night Owl security system that I purchased from Walmart it is a massive disappointment the human detection technology is completely broken constant alerts for garbage bags rigs bugs tree branches it has reached to the point of alarm fatigue where my phone constantly buzzes with fake alert so often I have to turn off the notifications completely I've stuck with this brand through four different systems if you want a system that actually distinguishes between a tree branch and a human being I'd look elsewhere
