My eyes are now worse than before. I also ended up with dry eye. I believe it’s because of a mix up where the lady at reception didn’t even know I was booked in on arrival and said that I wasn’t, even though I had the letter in my
Hand. So they said they would squeeze me in with a different surgeon than what I was originally told. I travelled to Belfast and stayed overnight as my surgery was early the next morning. I was told I was getting some Italian surgeon who was the best at optilase. I was squeezed in that morning with a different surgeon who seemed very rushed to get it done and didn’t know his left from his right eye when doing the pre test which was terrifying. He just didn’t seem like he knew what he was doing. I know it was around Covid time but that’s no excuse. It just didn’t seem right at all. Something went wrong I believe as I couldn’t see for over 1 Week. It took weeks for my eyes to get back to normal. When they did it was pretty much the same as before if not worse as I ended up getting dry eye which i wouldn’t wish on anyone. I am considering legal advice on what happened

Oltilase performed my both eye surgery on Dec 2025. I would say I am very happy with the result. They call me for follow-up surgery 4 times already, which shows greater post-operative care. Service could be efficient if they do the surgery at given time so that the patient do not needed to wait longer. However, there is no harm to wait a bit if you are going for life changing surgery. Ensure you have day off on this day. All the best

I had laser eye surgery with Optilase 5 years ago, and honestly, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

From the very beginning, the experience was excellent. I had my initial consultation in Derry, where the staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and thorough. They took the time to explain every step of the process, answered all my questions, and made me feel completely at ease. There was never any pressure—just clear, honest advice about what to expect and whether I was a suitable candidate.

The surgery itself took place in Belfast, and it was just as smooth and reassuring. The team there were amazing—calm, confident, and very supportive throughout. The procedure was quick, painless, and over before I even had time to feel nervous. I remember being surprised at how straightforward it all was.

The results have been life-changing. Waking up every day with clear vision still feels like a luxury, even 5 years later. No more glasses, no more contact lenses—just perfect eyesight and complete freedom. My vision has remained consistently sharp, and I’ve had no issues at all since the surgery.

Worked for 3 and a half years then needed glasses again for all day wear.

Went back as I had a ‘lifetime guarantee’ to be told the surgery couldn’t be done as my eyes were ‘too dry’

I was told first time round my eyes were on the dryer side but surgery was able to ahead as I done eye drops and heat mask for weeks prior.

When I went back when I needed glasses again, I was told my eyes were dry. Again I took eye drops, heat mask and done this every day for a good couple of weeks.
After all the money spent on all the eye drops, mask etc, I was told they couldn’t do the surgery at all as my eyes were too dry.

Couple of weeks after I went to my option for a second opinion, they said my eyes were ‘on the dryer side’ but nothing to be concerned or worried about.

Overall, disappointing as I am back to wearing glasses all the time after a lot of money spent.

Very painful and have been left with very dry eyes which I never used to get. My eyesight improved both short and long sighted however it only lasted 3 months so not worth the pain, dry eyes and expense!
I would not recommend!!

The staff! All the staff in the Belfast and Derry clinics that I have dealt with throughout my laser eye procedure have been 1st class, from consultation, to booking, meeting the front of house team to the doctor and nurses looking after me on the day of the operation and follow up check ups, every last one of them have been very professional, reassuring and put your mind at ease. 10/10

Pre visit and Procedure went lot smoother than I expected and very happy with my vision. 5 years on I’m still very happy with my eyesight although I do notice a slight difference but nothing major.

Only disappointment I had was the after care, my post op appointment was cancelled by Optilase the day before it was to happen. Never had another phone call for a new appointment so technically didn’t receive all I paid for.

I would still recommend tho

5 years on my eyes are functioning perfectly, I now have perfect 20-20 vision.
The procedure was painless and very quick and was well looked after by the staff.
Worth every penny

This process was the worse experience of my life and cost thousands.

I booked the appointment for laser eye surgery, PRK. I was extremely nervous for this procedure and I felt I was rushed into signing all the paperwork and even rushed during the procedure when I couldn’t keep my eyes open they forced them open to get me out of the room as fast as they could.

Post surgery, I was very sore. Red and swollen eyes and eye lids. Gritty and uncomfortable. They explained this would be the case for some hours. I experienced it for days. Eventually I rang the practice and spoke with the senior member of staff. He advised I follow the standard protocol of post op medicines (anti inflammatory drugs).

This finally settled and after 1 week of agony I had my sight, 20/20 vision. A miracle.

Within 12 weeks, I began noticing the decline of my sight. To the point of finding my glasses and using those again, at 16 weeks post op. The glasses didn’t even give me clear vision.

I booked in the surgeon for a review and he explained the eye had scar tissue developed over the left eyeball, distorting my vision. The eye sight in both eyes had deteriorated badly, requiring new prescriptions, each eye different.

I was told in this meeting that it would take 6-8 weeks to fully heal the scar tissue.

I returned 12 weeks later to find that there was no improvement at all. The same surgeon explained it can sometimes take 6-12 months to heal scar tissue.

I returned at 12 months post op and was told that there was little to no improvement in my scar tissue situation. This had me feeling very disheartened and untrusting of the ‘medical professionals’.

Upon that appointment I expressed my concerns and how annoyed I was. And when leaving the clinic, one of the nurses pulled me into a side room away from the crowds. She explained to me that the real reason for the scar tissue was that the anti inflammatory medication they prescribed me was not strong enough to prevent the scar tissue forming, and that this was not something they checked on pre op as it happens ‘1 in 100,000’. This was never explained pre op. I felt cheated out of the thousands I spent on this.

After I left the clinic I called to book another appointment to check and they didn’t book me in again. This disheartened me further and I gave up.

This whole ordeal has left me with permanent scar tissue formed over my eye which will forever distort my vision.

I was never compensated for the physical damage and psychological trauma this caused me.

I want to warn others to stay away from this awful clinic.

This happened in 2021 but the record system they have only permits 12 months or less. Obviously to exclude cases such as mine.

Had my laser eye surgery 5 years ago. Went from barely being able to see 30cm in front of me to 20/20 vision in 5 days. The staff was unbelievably kind and helpful. Easily one of the best decisions I’ve made.
