What a mistake!
I recently decided to move my day to day banking to PTSB Swords so I setup a new account to start the process of moving across from my current provider. What a mistake! From start to finish, the experience was extremely poor. When I was told I needed to visit the branch for the fourth time, I gave up. Deciding to close my account, I then found out I could only do so by going into the branch again! So I went in today and closed the account. The staff are inexperienced and poorly trained, and they simply don’t care they they lost a customer today. I now see why so many people complain about the terrible service. They can add my name to the list of unhappy (ex) customers.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
AVOID AT ALL COSTS..........Poorest bank i have ever dealt with. App is always down, massive waits on calls to customer service and massive issue with SEPA payments today.
PTSB unfit for purpose
Unfit for purpose if a bank cannot provide SEPA payments of wages on time. It's far from a secure payment service if they cannot guarantee it due to a 3rd party? They have in the past billed and deducted money before the 1st of the month, when the transaction date was documented as the 1st of the month, they automate this to penalise you. This is the last straw, I'm moving all direct debits to revolut.
Absolutely awful service
Absolutely awful service. Unable to get through on phone, automated service that gets me no where. Eventually (after days) spoke to member of staff who sounded confused, bewildered and incompetent. Said he could not help and hung up. I now plan to close my account and move elsewhere, but I imagine this will be pretty arduous as there seems not to be one soul available to communicate. Emails to the one given on statements just bounce back. Keep your savings elsewhere!
My experience with PTSB bank Sligo Branch
REVIEW PTSB
I was a customer of PTSB. My account was in the Sligo branch. As I live 30 miles from the branch, I used Open24 online banking. An issue arose with the code for my account. I used the telephone banking system to try to resolve the problem. I called on a number of occasions. The people I spoke to in the centre had a poor command of the English language and they were unable to resolve the problem.
I sent a letter to the Manager of the Bank and when I contacted them again having got no response to my letter, I was told that they did not get the letter. I then resent a copy of the letter but still got no reply. At this stage, having been locked our of my account for a long period of time, I became so frustrated that I decided to drive to Sligo and visit the branch in the hope that a staff member would resolve the problem for me.
When I checked in at reception, I was directed to a side office where I was VERBALLY ABUSED by a very senior male member of Staff. As the door of the side office was open and the Staff member spoke in a very loud and aggressive manner, everyone in the premises at that time heard what was said. This confrontation left me shocked and distressed and I can safely say I was never as embarrassed and humiliated in all my life up to that point.
I then referred the matter to the Bank’s internal complaints resolution centre, but this was also unsuccessful, Finally I lodged a complaint about the issue to the Financial Ombudsman but was not happy with the outcome of the action either.
I then closed my account and transferred my business to the Bank Of Ireland in Ballyshannon. I am very happy with this bank where I am treated with respect and dignity. It is the best move I ever made.
Raheny Branch
Had an issue with an online deposit account and called to this branch. Zoe was incredibly helpful and went out of her way to assist in typing out a letter, phoning online deposits etc. The same could not be said for the customer service agent at the end of the line in online deposits...
Permanent Trial
A €5 refund was not paid into my account, as evidenced by my bank statements.
It was completed on the 27/5/24 , which the seller has verified.
HORRIBLE
The worst bank in existence.
Incompetent, greedy, dishonest, discriminatory. The list goes on. Avoid like the plague.
Avoid for joint/current accounts
Tried to open a joint explore account as they offer 2% back off your mortgage payments. Don't waste your time - we spent hours trying to get the app verification process to work and finally it locked my partner out of the app. Four days later we tried again and he was still locked out. Spent forever trying to find a phone number to call as they don't make it transparent on the website (and you can't use live chat without the app!). The auto forwarding service has a poor choice of options and no option just to speak with an agent directly if other options don't work. When we finally got through to someone they just told us to start the process again instead of trying to fix the issue, so we opened a joint account with Revolut instead, literally took us less than 30 seconds. Don't give them your money.
It could have been so different.
Firstly, credit to Callie in the Helpdesk team, and Eimear in the Naas branch. Indeed, all the members of the Naas branch that I encountered in my recent visit. They were all cheerful, professional and welcoming. Without these great employees this would be a one star review at best. Firstly, like all Irish banks, PTSB pay rubbish savings rates. Like the electricity providers it is my opinion that they hide behind weak excuses to do this, purely to maximise profits. I had two accounts that I was trying to transfer the balances from to my BOI current account. Tried to do it myself online. Computer said no. It said to call support desk. I did. Callie eventually told me I would need to “write a letter” to get access the funds in my “Demand Online Account”! DEMAND ONLINE = “Write a letter”. No, not even an email, but a real letter, envelope, stamp etc. I agree it was a legacy account, but if they allowed me to set it up online, then surely, I should be able to manage it online. I argued and persisted and eventually some manager called Josh (who did not even speak to me) told Callie that I should be able to do it in branch. I left work early drove to PTSB, Naas. There Eimear listened. It was not easy. It took nearly one hour of form filling, downloading apps, recreating account profiles, signing, initialising, more signing, more initialising but EVENTUALLY, after almost one hour and after 5pm closing time Eimear and her team delivered! My genuine appreciation to Callie and especially Eimear, but the overall experience was not great. The reason I could not transfer between my accounts was not clear. The website and app gave a very generic IT error. At one point it seemed, from some error Eimear saw, it was in part because I did not have Photo ID uploaded. If the website, or app, had clearly pointed that out to me, that would have been good. I realise app development is not easy or straightforward. Maybe my situation was an outlier, I do not know. I hope PTSB are strengthening their digital platform. However my need was sorted, and I did not have to “write a letter”, so it does pay to persist and be that little bit awkward.
THINK TWICE - is PTSB the best for you?
THINK TWICE! Tried to set-up an account. App kicked me out, called the helpline, referred to branch, booked appointment. Took time off work, went to the branch, they had no record. So I was treated like a senior citizen who can't use their phone. Beyond that the staff were not empowered to do anything, so I was asked to make another appointment. Several calls later, I had an appointment, which they then got wrong, so several calls later again, I had another appointment, which I cancelled today, asking myself why go through the bother..... I have decided PTSB can do banking without me, not that they'll care. In fairness their contact center tried hard, but the Grafton branch staff were unhelpful and badly trained, and the contact center can't book appointments without ringing the Branch????? The joining-up part of the app is pants, and they make constant excuses for being so busy. Good for you PTSB that business is brisk, but if you work it like this, you'll see people leave just as fast. What a dreadful experience!!!
Open 24 isn't open 24
Open 24 isn't open 24.
If you ever get a new phone or get locked out of your account for any reason whatsoever, none of the contact numbers listed on their website which claim to be "automated" and "available 24/7" work outside business hours. It's incredibly frustrating, and I would not recommend PTSB for this.
Also, if you take out a mortgage with PTSB and open up an explorer account. You will have two accounts on your app, an "explorer" and a "mortgage" account, can you guess which account money will be taken from for the mortgage? That's right, the "explorer" account and not the one that says "mortgage".
Have an account with the bank for…
Have an account with the bank for several years and cannot fault my experience using online banking.
Recently I required a bank draft and in spite of having 5 branches, all within commuting distance, I was required to go to City Centre ten days before Christmas. The queue was "out the door" and there are two cash points. I left as I was not prepared to join such a long queue. I am 75 and will have to seriously consider switching to a bank in my commuter towns where I can access counter services.
From a customers perspective PTSB should commence meditation or yoga in these "inactive branches" The ambience is conducive to it.
Gorey Branch
Gorey Branch. Ignorant staff. I dropped in there to lodge money for a friend only to be told that unless I had their ATM card I would have to travel to Bray or Enniscorthy!! The main reason for my review is about the female staff member. Her attitude was one of someone that couldn't care to be there and ignorantly when I turned my face to see was there a Cash counter, she rudly says 'Hello? Hello? implying that she didn't have my full attention. Thank god I am not a customer myself as I will never have to darken the doorway again..
What has happened the Directors of…
What has happened the Directors of Ptsb.ie should all be sacked. I joined Permanent tsb nearly 40 years ago and had the most exceptional service up until the past two years. In 2010 my I took my mother into the Swords Branch as she was a Customer of Ulster Bank; due to the changes she needed to open a new account, She was quite ill at the time but I cannot speak highly enough of the Manager and his Team, they made every effort to look after her. Thankfully, that was then and not now. I have never in my career; seen a business that is now intent on destroying a successful Bank that was built on its Customer service and excellent products.
I agree with ALL the adverse reviews I have read this evening. Mr Crowley and the Board of Directors should admit they are responsible for this decline of one of the most professional organisations. I am about to close my account, I spend far too much time in my busy life, trying to look after my finances. Start listening to the Customers that you have left or ptsb will not exist in the near future. I must point out I spoke to Mary Ann (in HQ) yesterday, voiced my dissatisfaction and asked her to make sure that it was passed to the Directors.
Really awful App
Really awful App, constantly down- "technical problems". Big problem if trying to buy something or transferring money to another account. They "encourage" two part authentication, most likely to protect their interests, however with the App regularly down this is not possible. Useless.
I have debited my PTSB Visa account…
I have debited my PTSB Visa account earlier today from an existing PTSB account, but the fund transfere has taken an inordinately ridiculous time to transfer, as ever. Is it just me?
Horrendous bank for business banking
Horrendous bank for business banking. Extremely unprofessional and incapable of updating records. Shocking service if that's what you would call it.
Having sufficient funds in my PTSB…
Having sufficient funds in my PTSB account, I attempted to tax my car online on six different occasions in the past ten days. Failed on "PTSB authentication" each time. Spoke with PTSB helpline on three occasions to no avail. Tonight, I tried to transfer funds to a more reliable service and again, failed on authentication. Those responsible
for providing such a pathetic service were they to be operating in the real world would be sacked having presided over a decade of such abysmal failures.
