Very disappointing experience with Ridgeway Cars Romsey – particularly Joe

I had a very disappointing experience selling my car to Ridgeway Cars Romsey through Carwow, and unfortunately, the majority of the issues came from the way Joe handled the whole process.

My car sold through Carwow on a Tuesday and Joe contacted me the same day. I explained clearly that I had removed my private registration and that my V5C logbook was due to arrive by the end of the week. Joe told me they were happy to collect the car without the V5C and that I could send it over once it arrived. I specifically told him I wasn’t comfortable handing the car over without the logbook, so I waited for it to arrive.

The V5C arrived on Saturday and I immediately contacted Joe. He arranged collection for Wednesday and told me the driver would arrive at around 7pm. The driver didn’t arrive until just after 10pm. Despite the very late arrival, I want to make it clear that the driver himself was fantastic and was not to blame for any of this. He was polite, professional and did his job properly. My frustration is with the organisation and communication from Joe/Ridgeway, not the driver.

The driver spent around two hours inspecting and driving the car, only for Ridgeway to then try and reduce the agreed £4,800 price to £4,000. I refused £4,000 and made it clear that I wouldn’t accept anything less than £4,700. After going back and forth, they eventually agreed to £4,700.

I was then told that they couldn’t actually complete the collection until the V5C and all the other documents had been uploaded to Carwow. This was extremely frustrating because Joe had originally told me they could collect the car without the V5C. If I’d been given the correct information from the beginning, I could have uploaded everything and avoided wasting a considerable amount of time.

We rearranged collection for Thursday at 12pm. I work 9am–6pm, so I specifically asked my boss if I could leave work for an hour at 12pm to get the collection sorted, and she agreed.

At 11:49am, just 11 minutes before the agreed collection time, Joe called me and told me the driver couldn’t come because of personal problems. He then asked if the driver could come at 2pm, which I couldn’t do because I had already arranged with my employer to leave at 12pm. We therefore rearranged it again for 6pm.

It’s now nearly 7pm and, once again, the driver still hasn’t arrived.

Joe has also told me that we would receive confirmation that the car has been taken out of our name, but we still haven’t received this confirmation.

What should have been a straightforward car sale has turned into a stressful and unnecessarily time-consuming experience. I’ve been flexible throughout and have repeatedly rearranged my plans around what Joe has told me. The changing information, extremely late collection, attempted price reduction, cancelled collection and repeated delays have all been incredibly frustrating.

To be fair, the driver who attended was fantastic and I have absolutely no complaints about him. He was professional and polite throughout. My issue is entirely with how the collection has been organised and communicated by Joe.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend Ridgeway Cars Romsey. The whole process could have been handled far more efficiently, and Joe’s communication and organisation have been extremely disappointing.

First he was nice just to take off your money, then after dangerous car issues, he stopped responding and kept ignoring our calls and messages.
He responds to unknown number ls only, after he realised we were same persons, stopped answer too.
Such a disgusting guy, zero character, no words can describe him, also he puts pressure on you to buy by calling and saying he has other people who are interested, do not fall in his trap his name is Bilal be careful, share this please so others don't get scammed and people stop buying from him, he probably buys auction cars for £150-200 they are scrap cars adds extra for huge profit and puts people life in danger further more he delivers the car and by then he drives them without insurance, the police letter will be under new keeper name same it happened to my husband be aware

3/4 time in middle conversation starting ignoring without reason…

Avoid this company. They initially seem great but are happy to sell you a car that as almost as soon as you have purchased it, you realise that it is not fit for sale.
They sold my my close friend a Ford Fiesta, as soon as he bought it, all the tyres blew and he had to replace them. Then within a few months the car completely failed, then Ridgway after avoiding as many calls and emails as they could eventually told my friend to take the car to a garage for a diagnosis. Ford have checked the car and after stating the car needs 10k worth of repairs. Ridgway have said it is not their problem despite Ford confirming the issue was apparent before point of sale. But after messing my friend about Ridgway have said they are not willing to do anything or take any responsibility.

at first all was excellent great comaradery between seller and buyer ..... once they have your money it all changes , I have been in constant contact with ridgeway cars ( they have failed to return calls )to sort out a problem with my car , which was purchased outright no finance since 17th feb , such a painfull 3 months trying to get problem sorted to no avail, they refuse to rebuy back the car as it would be too costly to repair .... as per phone call today (23 may), so I am left with a lemon ..... think twice even three times before giving this company any of your hard earned money as like me you may live to regret your decision .The first service you recieve is very misleading if you find a car that you totally love ... please people be warned .. you will have an aftersales headache of all headaches as they DO NOT CARE WHEN THE MONEY IS RECIEVED.... AVOID AVOID AVOID at all costs.

Whole process a good experience,payment took a while to come through,but did eventually.
A very good company to deal with

RIDGEWAY CARS Romsey A really great selling experience for me. Chris called me and we discussed the car, within hours Dave arrived with a trailer and the car was inspected and the money paid into my account before he loaded up. I would recommend this company very highly.

I bought my A7 from Newbury Audi. really like this place. I've always had great service. They're friendly, courteous and helpful on after-sales, nothing too much bother.

Took my 15 year old Golf in to South Oxford VW to be looked at in a moment of madness - as they were 3 minutes away from me and thinking they'd know these cars inside out so would be able to pinpoint the problem. I went in to great detail to explain exactly what the problem was (mechanical issue with door lock) and even specified that I didn't want them to plug the car in to their diagnostic machine. They told me happily that they would look at the car that afternoon and I would only be charged £30-40 for them to have a look at it.

Punchline was - I returned to be told that they had done XY and Z when I'd catagorically asked for X only (not that they'd actually repaired anything at this stage, we're just talking in terms of their time looking at it). Stuff like taking my tyre tread depths in 3 different places and checking my oil level, telling me there was a patch of rust around the boot lock etc. - £114 please sir. Dishonest muppets demanding money for old rope.

AVOID

Plenty of very reputable independent VW specialists in the area that aren't out to get you.

Went to jewson skoda. They made me wait half an hour despite booking. The salesman was ok and knew skoda a but was mildly aggressive when I tried to compare the cars to equivalent competing cars. Tried to push finance on me very heavily despite my clear intention not to take it and just wasn't that friendly. Was sales by numbers without the usual patter and nice atmosphere.
